It's time to have a look at the weather over the next few days. | 0:00:02 | 0:00:05
So we'll start with the short term, | 0:00:05 | 0:00:06
and the weekend so far actually hasn't been too bad. | 0:00:06 | 0:00:09
It's not exactly been clear blue skies everywhere but we | 0:00:09 | 0:00:12
managed to get temperatures up to 18 degrees in the south-east. | 0:00:12 | 0:00:16
And Northern Ireland, actually, had its warmest day of the year so far. | 0:00:16 | 0:00:20
Slightly different story come Sunday - | 0:00:20 | 0:00:22
weather fronts are crossing the UK. | 0:00:22 | 0:00:24
That's going to introduce yet more cloud across the country | 0:00:24 | 0:00:27
and there will be some rain too. | 0:00:27 | 0:00:29
And for some of us, actually, a bit of a wet morning on the way, | 0:00:29 | 0:00:31
particularly the south-east, into the London area, | 0:00:31 | 0:00:34
East Anglia, Lincolnshire. | 0:00:34 | 0:00:35
But then look at that - there's a break in the cloud, | 0:00:35 | 0:00:37
so you'll probably get some sunshine at lunchtime through here. | 0:00:37 | 0:00:40
Then we get another line of cloud and some spots of rain, | 0:00:40 | 0:00:43
and then behind that we've got more sunshine again. | 0:00:43 | 0:00:45
So it's a bit like a zebra, really - you've got rain, | 0:00:45 | 0:00:48
some sunshine, some rain and then sunshine again. | 0:00:48 | 0:00:50
So I think the best way to summarise Sunday is it's going to be | 0:00:50 | 0:00:53
a bit of a changeable picture. | 0:00:53 | 0:00:55
But this is a cold front that's moving slowly across the UK | 0:00:55 | 0:00:58
during the course of Sunday evening into Monday. | 0:00:58 | 0:01:01
The skies temporarily clear and there is a chance of a little bit | 0:01:01 | 0:01:04
of frost, I think, around on Monday morning. | 0:01:04 | 0:01:06
These are the city temperatures. | 0:01:06 | 0:01:08
In rural spots, as always, it's going to be a little bit colder. | 0:01:08 | 0:01:11
So maybe a nippy start first thing on Monday. | 0:01:11 | 0:01:13
Now, big high pressure across this portion of the Atlantic here. | 0:01:13 | 0:01:16
It is going to be influencing our weather just about, | 0:01:16 | 0:01:19
maybe the far north of Scotland here in the north-west | 0:01:19 | 0:01:22
being clipped by a little bit more cloud, maybe windier weather, | 0:01:22 | 0:01:25
but generally speaking Monday is actually | 0:01:25 | 0:01:28
mostly a dry day for the UK. | 0:01:28 | 0:01:30
Sunshine for London, for Birmingham, | 0:01:30 | 0:01:32
Hull, Newcastle not doing bad at all. | 0:01:32 | 0:01:34
But as I said, the Western Isles, there, a little bit more cloud. | 0:01:34 | 0:01:37
I'm going to change gear a little bit now and talk about | 0:01:37 | 0:01:39
what's going on the other side of the planet across the US. | 0:01:39 | 0:01:41
Now, this is very cold air coming out of Canada. | 0:01:41 | 0:01:44
This is warmer air from the tropics. See these little swirls here? | 0:01:44 | 0:01:46
These are storms that have been developing just off | 0:01:46 | 0:01:49
the north-east of the United States. | 0:01:49 | 0:01:51
We've got a really nasty one heading to the north-east | 0:01:51 | 0:01:54
of New York State, New England come Tuesday. | 0:01:54 | 0:01:57
Even some snow to come for New York. | 0:01:57 | 0:01:59
And already there's one out there right now, | 0:01:59 | 0:02:01
and by this stage, by Tuesday, it's out in the north Atlantic. | 0:02:01 | 0:02:04
So we've got a series of storms brewing off the eastern seaboard | 0:02:04 | 0:02:08
of the US and they are to an extent affecting our weather as well. | 0:02:08 | 0:02:12
Initially it looks as though they're going to shunt some milder air | 0:02:12 | 0:02:15
in our direction. So, this is Tuesday. | 0:02:15 | 0:02:17
You can see the teens across most of the UK. | 0:02:17 | 0:02:19
Here is that low on Wednesday. | 0:02:19 | 0:02:21
So the snowy one I mentioned across New York... | 0:02:21 | 0:02:24
Let me just get out of the way. Here it is here. | 0:02:24 | 0:02:26
That's one that would have formed earlier. | 0:02:26 | 0:02:28
Most of them are tracking to the north, | 0:02:28 | 0:02:30
way to the north of our neighbourhood. | 0:02:30 | 0:02:31
Just about clipping, I think, the Western Isles here, | 0:02:31 | 0:02:34
so some spots of rain. But to the south of them, | 0:02:34 | 0:02:37
we've got those milder south-westerlies and some sunshine. | 0:02:37 | 0:02:40
So this is where the good weather is. | 0:02:40 | 0:02:42
Now, there is an indication that as we head towards the second half | 0:02:42 | 0:02:45
of the week, some of these lows will be making their journey | 0:02:45 | 0:02:49
across the Atlantic and may be affecting us as well to an extent. | 0:02:49 | 0:02:52
What does that mean? | 0:02:52 | 0:02:53
The winds will probably increase and we'll see | 0:02:53 | 0:02:56
slightly cooler air heading our way. | 0:02:56 | 0:02:58
So, a succession of lows lining up there in the Atlantic, | 0:02:58 | 0:03:01
and then by the end of the week, behind them, | 0:03:01 | 0:03:03
what follows them will be slightly fresher air, colder air in fact, | 0:03:03 | 0:03:06
and then we'll see the high-pressure that's dominating our weather | 0:03:06 | 0:03:09
right now slipping away towards the south. | 0:03:09 | 0:03:12
So I think further ahead, | 0:03:12 | 0:03:14
staying unsettled in the north of the country, | 0:03:14 | 0:03:17
dryer in the south and then we've got that cooler weather | 0:03:17 | 0:03:20
coming in behind those weather systems. | 0:03:20 | 0:03:22
So this is more of a summary of what's heading our way | 0:03:22 | 0:03:25
in the next few days. Thanks for watching. | 0:03:25 | 0:03:27 |
