Hello there, some rain for all of us later on this week, but, you know, | 0:00:02 | 0:00:05
we really can't complain. Time perhaps for a reality check, | 0:00:05 | 0:00:08
let's head down under, | 0:00:08 | 0:00:10
where Severe Tropical Cyclone Debbie is making landfall on | 0:00:10 | 0:00:13
the Queensland coast, bringing violent winds and flooding rains. | 0:00:13 | 0:00:17
And although it will no longer be a cyclone as it heads in the | 0:00:17 | 0:00:19
direction of Brisbane, it's going to bring some major impacts, | 0:00:19 | 0:00:23
all that rainfall has got to go somewhere. | 0:00:23 | 0:00:25
We'll keep an eye on Debbie over the next few days. | 0:00:25 | 0:00:28
Closer to home, we've got our own game-changer, | 0:00:28 | 0:00:31
a huge area of low pressure dominating the Atlantic. | 0:00:31 | 0:00:33
Nothing as extreme as Debbie, | 0:00:33 | 0:00:35
but just watch how it ambles its way across the Atlantic in our | 0:00:35 | 0:00:39
direction and in fact, come the start of the weekend, | 0:00:39 | 0:00:42
it will be slap bang on top of us. | 0:00:42 | 0:00:44
No major impacts, but, yes, | 0:00:44 | 0:00:46
there will be some rain around by then. | 0:00:46 | 0:00:49
At the moment, it's dry out there just about everywhere, | 0:00:49 | 0:00:52
some showers getting into parts of Wales and | 0:00:52 | 0:00:54
western England in the morning, | 0:00:54 | 0:00:55
the odd one reaching further east but the main oomph will be pushing | 0:00:55 | 0:00:58
up through Northern Ireland into south-west Scotland. | 0:00:58 | 0:01:01
A lot more cloud across Scotland than we've seen recently, | 0:01:01 | 0:01:03
and so it will be cooler. | 0:01:03 | 0:01:04
But further south, in any sunshine, I think it will feel pleasantly | 0:01:04 | 0:01:07
warm, mid to high teens with fairly light winds. | 0:01:07 | 0:01:10
As we head into the evening, | 0:01:10 | 0:01:12
another front pushes into western areas, | 0:01:12 | 0:01:14
some damp, dreary weather overnight followed by yet another one, | 0:01:14 | 0:01:17
bringing some heavier rain to many northern and western areas through | 0:01:17 | 0:01:20
Wednesday, on a strengthening wind. | 0:01:20 | 0:01:22
Whereas further south and east, | 0:01:22 | 0:01:24
despite a lot of cloud on Wednesday, it will stay | 0:01:24 | 0:01:26
mostly dry and pretty mild again, mid teens quite widely. | 0:01:26 | 0:01:30
Though it will be cooler along that eastern Scottish coast. | 0:01:30 | 0:01:33
And over the following few days, we'll see further fronts coming | 0:01:33 | 0:01:36
in, as that area of low pressure I mentioned begins to arrive. | 0:01:36 | 0:01:40
But the focus of the rain for the time being, | 0:01:40 | 0:01:42
will be across the more northern and western areas. | 0:01:42 | 0:01:44
At the same time, we start to drag in some pretty warm air | 0:01:44 | 0:01:46
from the near Continent, just watch how the map turns increasingly | 0:01:46 | 0:01:49
orange across parts of East Anglia and the south-east and that | 0:01:49 | 0:01:52
is indicative of temperatures nudging 20 degrees here in | 0:01:52 | 0:01:55
the sunshine, whereas further north and west with more cloud, | 0:01:55 | 0:01:58
more rain, more breeze, it won't be anything like as warm. | 0:01:58 | 0:02:01
We end the week with a cold front pushing that warm air away, | 0:02:01 | 0:02:05
so a fresher feel for all of us, and circulating around that area | 0:02:05 | 0:02:09
of low pressure we will see some showers. | 0:02:09 | 0:02:12
Difficult to get the detail right at this range, | 0:02:12 | 0:02:14
but expect a rather showery end to the week, | 0:02:14 | 0:02:17
quite blustery winds. There will be some sunshine but we'll have | 0:02:17 | 0:02:20
lost the high teens, low to mid teens at this stage. | 0:02:20 | 0:02:23
And we start the weekend on a showery note, | 0:02:23 | 0:02:25
as that low pressure sits on top of us, | 0:02:25 | 0:02:28
some more prolonged rain in some places, and it will be cooler | 0:02:28 | 0:02:31
by then as well, so low teens probably typical, 12 or 13 at best. | 0:02:31 | 0:02:37
So we are under that area of low pressure which, as you recall, | 0:02:37 | 0:02:41
has travelled all the way across the Atlantic to arrive on top | 0:02:41 | 0:02:44
of us just in time for the weekend. | 0:02:44 | 0:02:47
And that low pressure is formed in a dip in the jet stream. | 0:02:47 | 0:02:51
The jet stream is to the south of us at this stage, | 0:02:51 | 0:02:53
we are on the cool side of things. | 0:02:53 | 0:02:56
But it does look as if, as we head into next week, | 0:02:56 | 0:02:59
the jet stream is going to start to shift its way back | 0:02:59 | 0:03:01
northwards again, although there might be some rain across the far | 0:03:01 | 0:03:04
north-west, with most of us clear of the jet, | 0:03:04 | 0:03:07
and on the southern side of it, things look like warming up again. | 0:03:07 | 0:03:11
So some changes once more as we head into next week, | 0:03:11 | 0:03:14
it does look as if that after that rather showery start to the | 0:03:14 | 0:03:17
weekend as the jet heads north, | 0:03:17 | 0:03:19
it will turn drier again from the south and it will begin to | 0:03:19 | 0:03:22
warm up again. | 0:03:22 | 0:03:23
So, some changes ahead and I'll update you again, | 0:03:23 | 0:03:26
once more, tomorrow. Goodnight. | 0:03:26 | 0:03:28 |
