29/03/2017 Weather for the Week Ahead

Hello. Well, the weather looks like settling down again as we get

into early April but late March

is developing something of an identity crisis.

Huge amounts of variety up and down the UK.

For some of us in the sunshine, it's going to feel like early summer,

20 or 21 degrees, whereas for others,

it's going to be quite a lot of rain and inevitably it won't feel

anything like as comfortable here.

Most of the rain on Wednesday

out west and fairly wet weather

actually surging up through the Irish Sea,

parts of West Wales, Northern Ireland,

north-west England seeing some of that wet weather,

pushing up into Scotland too,

whereas, as you can see,

further south and east, it stays mostly dry.

The dry weather holding on

across the far north-east of Scotland.

Quite chilly here,

but the rest of Scotland milder but wetter.

Some are drier spells for Northern Ireland,

by not to be relied upon.

Further rain for north-west England,

West Wales again,

and just fringing into Cornwall perhaps,

but points east of that,

actually not seeing much rain at all.

A lot of dry weather

albeit quite cloudy, but mild and muggy,

mid-teens quite widely.

Mind you, that's as nothing compared to the warmth which is going

to waft up into some parts of the south-east and East Anglia

on Thursday, courtesy of southerly winds.

Somebody somewhere could well hit 20 or 21 degrees.

Further north and west, though,

it's progressively cooler.

Mid-teens is the best I can offer you

and we'll have some more of that rain again,

particularly up through the Irish Sea,

West Wales seeing quite a lot of rain,

perhaps north-west England.

Some drier spells for Northern Ireland

and Scotland, but nothing like as warm

as it will be in the sunshine

across the south-east.

Another batch of rain turning up

across western areas again on Friday

and that's going to start to head its way

further eastwards through the day.

Ahead of that still some warmth,

but that rain is coming

courtesy of a cold front

and that cold front will displace the warmer air -

a fresher end to the week for all of us

and the weekend starts on that fresh note -

blobs of blue indicating some showers,

there is a ridge of high pressure building in from the west, though.

So to sum up this weekend, we start off on that showery note,

1st of April, of course, then it turns the drier and finer on Sunday,

some chilly nights, though.

A bit more detail then -

here's a snapshot for Saturday.

Don't take the location

of the blobs of blue too literally,

just indicating a lot of showers around.

Some of those showers quite slow-moving

cos the winds will be fairly light.

It'll feel cooler than it has done

for a good few of us, despite some sunshine.

A chilly start to Sunday,

but the showers will have gone by then.

For most of us it'll be a drier day,

light winds, very pleasant indeed,

although the temperature's not spectacularly high.

I think with light winds, it will feel quite nice.

And then we look across the other side of the Atlantic

for indications for next week.

We're keeping an eye on this blob of cloud.

It's an area of low pressure, actually,

which is going to start to track its way north-eastwards we think

as we go through the next week days.

Now the track of that's going to be pivotal.

I'm not going to lie to you,

we don't know the exact track of this low,

but it does look as if it's going to develop into a big, big feature

through the middle part of the Atlantic through this weekend

and throw up a ridge of high pressure across us.

Now then, if that tracks its way up towards the north-west,

we stay in the clear and it does look as if that jet stream

will stay to the north-west of us for the most part through next week,

keeping most of the rain to the north-west,

but also keeping us in mostly warm air.

North-westernmost parts of the UK are likely to see some rain

at times next week, but many of us will be dry.

And it will be warm, I think,

particularly the further south and east we go.

So for a good few of us

it's a fairly bright outlook.
