Hello, there. There's the promise of some settled weather

0:00:020:00:04

as we head into next week - just recently, though,

0:00:040:00:06

we've seen the wind direction changing into more of a southerly,

0:00:060:00:09

which is drawing up some warmer air.

0:00:090:00:10

In order to achieve the highest temperatures, though,

0:00:100:00:13

we need some breaks in the cloud and more sunshine.

0:00:130:00:15

This is where the warmer and drier air was earlier on,

0:00:150:00:20

but that's moving its way northwards

0:00:200:00:22

towards England and Wales,

0:00:220:00:23

pushing away some of this cloud, which is bringing in some rain -

0:00:230:00:27

and that cloud is still bringing some rain at the moment.

0:00:270:00:30

The rain clears away from the Midlands

0:00:300:00:32

and gets more pushed up towards Irish Sea coastal areas,

0:00:320:00:36

moving away from Wales

0:00:360:00:37

into north-west England and southern Scotland,

0:00:370:00:40

allowing more sunshine to develop across much of England and Wales.

0:00:400:00:44

Now, it may well be a warmer day across the north-east of Scotland

0:00:440:00:46

thanks to those southerly winds compared with the last few days,

0:00:460:00:49

when we've had the onshore breeze -

0:00:490:00:51

but more rain to come for Dumfries & Galloway,

0:00:510:00:53

across Cumbria, maybe the Northern Pennines,

0:00:530:00:55

eastern parts of Northern Ireland,

0:00:550:00:57

even into the afternoon, the threat of rain,

0:00:570:00:59

western fringes of Wales and the far south-west of England,

0:00:590:01:02

but, for much of England and Wales,

0:01:020:01:03

we get much brighter skies, some sunshine,

0:01:030:01:06

and we could get up to 22 degrees Celsius, 72 Fahrenheit.

0:01:060:01:10

Now, as we head into Friday,

0:01:100:01:12

the main focus of the rain

0:01:120:01:13

will shift away from Northern Ireland up into Scotland.

0:01:130:01:16

Behind that, to the south,

0:01:160:01:17

we may have a little rain coming eastwards

0:01:170:01:19

across England and Wales, but not much.

0:01:190:01:21

We've got more in the way of sunshine, actually,

0:01:210:01:24

following on behind, and, although it's slightly fresher air,

0:01:240:01:27

a wee change in wind direction, to a certain extent,

0:01:270:01:29

it'll still feel pleasant in the sunshine.

0:01:290:01:32

This weekend is going to be a weekend of two halves.

0:01:320:01:34

Showers on Saturday to greet the new month,

0:01:340:01:37

a chilly night on Saturday night,

0:01:370:01:39

and then Sunday looks like being the driest day of the two.

0:01:390:01:42

The wind's not particularly strong on Saturday,

0:01:420:01:44

so, the showers are going to hang around for a while.

0:01:440:01:47

Little bit hit and miss, perhaps,

0:01:470:01:48

but there could be some heavy ones in there, as well -

0:01:480:01:51

but get some sunshine, and it's pleasantly warm.

0:01:510:01:53

Now, those showers get pushed away

0:01:530:01:55

by this short-lived area of high pressure

0:01:550:01:58

that's building up from the south,

0:01:580:02:00

and that will settle things down on Sunday,

0:02:000:02:03

so, a much drier day on Sunday.

0:02:030:02:05

Again, for most of us, the winds will be light.

0:02:050:02:07

It'll be a bright day, there will be some sunshine,

0:02:070:02:09

it will be pleasantly warm. 16, maybe 17 degrees.

0:02:090:02:13

The far north-west, late on in the day,

0:02:130:02:15

will see more cloud, a strengthening wind

0:02:150:02:17

and the chance of some rain.

0:02:170:02:19

That's on that weather system, there,

0:02:190:02:20

but it's coming in to that area of high pressure

0:02:200:02:23

that's clinging on across England and Wales,

0:02:230:02:24

so, movement of that band of rain is going to be painfully slow,

0:02:240:02:27

and it's going to be across Western Scotland and Northern Ireland

0:02:270:02:31

that we see most of the rain on Monday.

0:02:310:02:33

Ahead of it, difficult to know how much sunshine there's going to be,

0:02:330:02:37

but we've still got some quite warm air,

0:02:370:02:39

so, 16 or 17 degrees, again, quite likely.

0:02:390:02:41

Pretty good for this time of year.

0:02:410:02:43

Into the outlook,

0:02:430:02:44

and that band of rain pushes south-eastwards across the UK.

0:02:440:02:47

Again, not much rain in the south-east.

0:02:470:02:49

It continues to be largely dry here -

0:02:490:02:50

and then, high pressure, you can see,

0:02:500:02:52

building in from the Atlantic.

0:02:520:02:54

This is the settled weather that I promised you -

0:02:540:02:56

and that high pressure builds in across the UK,

0:02:560:02:58

centred more across the southern half of the UK.

0:02:580:03:02

So, dry weather, some sunshine -

0:03:020:03:04

some cloud, as well.

0:03:040:03:05

Shouldn't be too cold at night,

0:03:050:03:06

and it should be pleasantly warm at this time of the year

0:03:060:03:09

in the sunshine.

0:03:090:03:10

Position of the high, though, as usual, is crucial,

0:03:100:03:13

because, to the north of the high,

0:03:130:03:14

around the top of it,

0:03:140:03:16

we've got more of this Atlantic wind

0:03:160:03:17

affecting Scotland, in particular,

0:03:170:03:19

blowing in cloudy skies.

0:03:190:03:20

Get the other side of the mountains more sunshine,

0:03:200:03:22

and it will be warmer.

0:03:220:03:23

That's what we call the Foehn effect -

0:03:230:03:25

and you can find out more details about that online.

0:03:250:03:28

Goodbye.
