Hello there. Before we look ahead to early April, I thought we'd | 1:51:21 | 1:51:24
look back at the weather in March, | 1:51:24 | 1:51:26
and I'm going to show you a couple of charts from the Met Office. | 1:51:26 | 1:51:29
The first one shows rainfall. | 1:51:29 | 1:51:30
Brown is below-average rainfall for the month, so quite dry across | 1:51:30 | 1:51:34
the north-west of Scotland and dry again in the south-east of England. | 1:51:34 | 1:51:37
This could lead to impacts further down the line, | 1:51:37 | 1:51:40
but December, January, February and March all drier than average. | 1:51:40 | 1:51:45
Sunshine amounts - and you can see that it's been duller than | 1:51:45 | 1:51:48
average in the south-west, but where it's been drier, | 1:51:48 | 1:51:51
in the north-west of Scotland, it's also been sunnier, | 1:51:51 | 1:51:53
and generally through the month the weather got better and better. | 1:51:53 | 1:51:57
And we've got some sunshine this weekend, as well, | 1:51:57 | 1:52:00
but we start the new month with some April showers. | 1:52:00 | 1:52:02
Those fade away overnight, | 1:52:02 | 1:52:03
and it should be a fine day to come on Sunday. | 1:52:03 | 1:52:06
Showers from the word go across many western parts of England and | 1:52:06 | 1:52:09
Wales, a few in the north-west of Scotland and Northern Ireland. | 1:52:09 | 1:52:12
Through the day, those showers could generate almost anywhere. | 1:52:12 | 1:52:14
Slow-moving, they could be heavy and thundery. | 1:52:14 | 1:52:17
There'll be some sunshine in-between the showers, | 1:52:17 | 1:52:19
and with light winds it should feel quite warm, | 1:52:19 | 1:52:21
although temperatures a little bit down on Friday's values. | 1:52:21 | 1:52:25
Those showers push down across north-western parts of the UK, | 1:52:25 | 1:52:28
across Northern Ireland and further into Scotland. Some heavy ones here. | 1:52:28 | 1:52:32
A rash of sunshine and some showers across England and Wales, | 1:52:32 | 1:52:36
coastal areas perhaps seeing fewer showers. | 1:52:36 | 1:52:38
The showers arriving across East Anglia and the south-east more | 1:52:38 | 1:52:41
during the afternoon, so it's here we'll find the highest | 1:52:41 | 1:52:43
temperatures, possibly up to 16 degrees. | 1:52:43 | 1:52:46
The showers fade away overnight. It turns quite chilly. | 1:52:46 | 1:52:48
Those are the numbers in towns and cities, but in the | 1:52:48 | 1:52:50
countryside maybe a pinch of frost for Scotland and Northern Ireland. | 1:52:50 | 1:52:54
It'll warm up quickly, though, in the sunshine. | 1:52:54 | 1:52:56
A nice day, really, on Sunday, | 1:52:56 | 1:52:58
good spells of sunshine, a bit of cloud here and there, | 1:52:58 | 1:53:00
just a very small chance of a shower across northern England. | 1:53:00 | 1:53:03
The winds will be light, | 1:53:03 | 1:53:05
and there's a bit of warmth in that sun at this time of the year, | 1:53:05 | 1:53:08
so it'll feel pleasantly warm when the sun is out. | 1:53:08 | 1:53:11
As we look ahead to the beginning of next week, | 1:53:11 | 1:53:14
we've got that ridge of high pressure sitting across the UK. | 1:53:14 | 1:53:17
It's getting squeezed, though, by weather fronts moving down | 1:53:17 | 1:53:20
from the north-west on Monday. | 1:53:20 | 1:53:22
So for Scotland and Northern Ireland, we'll find some stronger | 1:53:22 | 1:53:25
winds here and we'll see a band of rain coming in from the north-west. | 1:53:25 | 1:53:28
But England and Wales, it may be a bit warmer, actually, 16, 17 degrees | 1:53:28 | 1:53:32
quite likely with a dry day on Monday and some sunshine at times. | 1:53:32 | 1:53:36
But those weather fronts are going to be marching south-eastwards. | 1:53:36 | 1:53:40
As they do so, they become very much weaker, | 1:53:40 | 1:53:43
so again a little rain to come across the south-east of the UK, | 1:53:43 | 1:53:47
with high pressure tending to build in behind that. | 1:53:47 | 1:53:49
It could be cloudy for a good part of the day in the south-east. | 1:53:49 | 1:53:52
There might still be one or two showers. | 1:53:52 | 1:53:54
Many other areas are likely to be dry. | 1:53:54 | 1:53:56
Some stronger winds in northern Scotland, though, and some rain | 1:53:56 | 1:53:59
or showers not far away from here, but pleasant in the sunshine again. | 1:53:59 | 1:54:03
And more sunshine to come on Wednesday, light winds for all but | 1:54:03 | 1:54:07
the northern half of the UK, with some stronger winds in Scotland. | 1:54:07 | 1:54:10
This is Atlantic air, and it may well bring some more cloud and | 1:54:10 | 1:54:13
a few spots of rain onto some western hills. | 1:54:13 | 1:54:15
There are weather fronts, bands of rain waiting out in | 1:54:15 | 1:54:18
the Atlantic to arrive across our shores, but they're getting blocked | 1:54:18 | 1:54:21
by this area of high pressure that builds in across the UK next week. | 1:54:21 | 1:54:25
The centre of the high pressure will slowly migrate to become | 1:54:25 | 1:54:29
centred across Germany during next weekend. | 1:54:29 | 1:54:32
That will allow the wind direction to change. | 1:54:32 | 1:54:35
We'll get more of a southerly breeze. | 1:54:35 | 1:54:36
That should tend to lift the temperatures. | 1:54:36 | 1:54:38
Again, for most places it'll be dry with some sunshine, | 1:54:38 | 1:54:41
but we also open up the opportunity for some weather fronts to approach | 1:54:41 | 1:54:44
the north-west, threatening some cloud and some rain. Goodbye. | 1:54:44 | 1:54:48 |
