Hello there. We are off and running into April with some fairly

0:00:030:00:05

typical April weather, but I thought we'd start with

0:00:050:00:07

a quick look back at what happened in March.

0:00:070:00:10

We've got some Met Office statistics

0:00:100:00:11

which show that, in terms of

0:00:110:00:12

rainfall, it was drier than average in the south-eastern corner of the

0:00:120:00:16

UK and drier than average, too, in the western side of Scotland.

0:00:160:00:20

That comes off the back of several dry months through much of winter.

0:00:200:00:24

In terms of sunshine through March,

0:00:240:00:26

it was still a little bit less than average in the south-west of the

0:00:260:00:29

UK, but for the vast majority we saw more sunshine than you might expect.

0:00:290:00:32

The western side of Scotland, where it was quite dry, was also sunny.

0:00:320:00:36

Now, to start April we saw some fairly typical April weather,

0:00:360:00:38

as I said. We saw some sunshine but also some showers.

0:00:380:00:41

This picture was taken in East Lothian by a Weather Watcher.

0:00:410:00:45

So, sunshine and showers to start the weekend.

0:00:450:00:47

The second part of the weekend looks much quieter.

0:00:470:00:49

We've got a big ridge of high pressure building in.

0:00:490:00:51

It'll be a chilly start to the day

0:00:510:00:53

but a bright start, with some sunshine and some light winds.

0:00:530:00:55

Into the afternoon, you'll notice cloud amounts increasing,

0:00:550:00:58

but just about everywhere stays dry.

0:00:580:01:00

Looks like a decent afternoon across most of Scotland,

0:01:000:01:02

patchy cloud and some sunshine, 12 degrees in Glasgow,

0:01:020:01:05

12 or 13 in Northern Ireland.

0:01:050:01:07

We might just see the odd shower for some eastern parts of England,

0:01:070:01:10

but generally there's a lot of dry and bright weather,

0:01:100:01:12

good spells of sunshine for Wales, the south-west of England,

0:01:120:01:15

light winds, too, 12 or 13 degrees, not so bad.

0:01:150:01:18

The top temperatures will be in the south-east, about 16 or 17 degrees,

0:01:180:01:22

so it looks pretty good for the Boat Racers on the river.

0:01:220:01:25

Not particularly windy, so the water should be not particularly

0:01:250:01:28

choppy, and the sky should be quite bright,

0:01:280:01:29

and we've got some pretty reasonable temperatures.

0:01:290:01:32

Monday may start a bit grey for some with a few patches of mist and fog.

0:01:320:01:35

That won't last long, then for most of England and Wales it looks like

0:01:350:01:37

a lovely day with some sunshine, the winds coming in from the south.

0:01:370:01:40

It'll feel pleasantly warm.

0:01:400:01:41

Further west, though, more cloud,

0:01:410:01:43

a bit more of a breeze and some outbreaks of rain pushing

0:01:430:01:45

into Northern Ireland, Western Scotland and later on into

0:01:450:01:48

the western fringes of Wales and the far south-west of England.

0:01:480:01:52

Then that weather front Monday night into Tuesday does cross the rest of

0:01:520:01:56

England and Wales but weakens off in the process,

0:01:560:01:58

so not much rain in the south-east, but there will be some.

0:01:580:02:01

It's fairly light and patchy to take us on into Tuesday morning.

0:02:010:02:04

Following along behind that area of cloud and patchy rain comes

0:02:040:02:07

something a bit brighter,

0:02:070:02:08

although in the north-west more of a breeze, and that

0:02:080:02:10

may well bring with it a bit more cloud and a scattering of showers.

0:02:100:02:14

We've got ten degrees in Glasgow through Tuesday,

0:02:140:02:16

round about 15 or 16 in the south-eastern corner,

0:02:160:02:18

so temperatures just creeping down by a notch or two.

0:02:180:02:21

But the weather looks set fair for the most part, with this area

0:02:210:02:23

of high pressure taking us on into the middle part of the week.

0:02:230:02:26

Weather fronts going around the top of that,

0:02:260:02:27

so most places will be fine and dry,

0:02:270:02:29

but there's always the risk of a little bit of rain

0:02:290:02:31

on that breeze into the north-west of the UK,

0:02:310:02:33

but for most other places it's another decent day.

0:02:330:02:35

Temperatures continue to slip back a bit,

0:02:350:02:37

top temperatures midweek around about 14 or 15 degrees.

0:02:370:02:41

Now, on into Thursday, it's a similar sort of day, really,

0:02:410:02:43

a bit breezy in the north and west with thicker cloud and some

0:02:430:02:46

outbreaks of rain, 11 degrees in Glasgow,

0:02:460:02:48

where it should be dry, 12 in Belfast and around

0:02:480:02:50

about 14 or 15 in the south-eastern corner, where it should stay dry

0:02:500:02:53

and quite bright.

0:02:530:02:55

High pressure is still with us towards the end of the week,

0:02:550:02:58

keeping it settled for the most part.

0:02:580:03:00

Weather fronts go around the top of that high,

0:03:000:03:02

so again on the western side of Scotland we might see

0:03:020:03:04

thicker cloud and a little bit of rain.

0:03:040:03:07

On into next weekend and probably beyond that, we've still got

0:03:070:03:10

high pressure as the dominant force, driving our weather,

0:03:100:03:13

keeping it fine and settled for the most part.

0:03:130:03:15

It might just drift a little bit out towards the near Continent,

0:03:150:03:18

but the winds are coming in from the south across western

0:03:180:03:20

areas, so that's going to keep those temperatures up,

0:03:200:03:22

but always the risk of weather fronts just drifting

0:03:220:03:24

into the far north and west,

0:03:240:03:26

maybe freshening up the breeze and bringing a little bit of rain.
