Hello there. It was mixed fortunes this weekend.

0:00:020:00:04

We had low pressure in charge of the weather on Saturday.

0:00:040:00:06

That brought some sunshine, yes, but also a good scattering of showers.

0:00:060:00:09

This was the view taken by one of our Weather Watchers in the

0:00:090:00:12

Highlands of Scotland.

0:00:120:00:14

But high pressure took over on Sunday,

0:00:140:00:16

and that brought a very pleasant day to most parts of the UK -

0:00:160:00:19

a good deal of sunshine,

0:00:190:00:20

a bit of patchy cloud here and there but a lovely view across the water

0:00:200:00:23

captured again by one of our Weather Watchers in St Ives in Cornwall.

0:00:230:00:27

The week ahead's looking pretty good. Very little rain to speak of.

0:00:270:00:30

There will be some, as you'll see in a minute,

0:00:300:00:31

but overall it's looking fine and settled for the most part,

0:00:310:00:34

daytime highs typically 12 to 14 degrees.

0:00:340:00:37

There are some chilly nights

0:00:370:00:38

in the forecast, as well, though. We start Monday on a chilly note.

0:00:380:00:41

There'll be a few patches of mist and fog for some southern and

0:00:410:00:43

eastern coastal counties. Shouldn't last too long.

0:00:430:00:45

Overall, England and Wales are looking at a pleasant day.

0:00:450:00:47

A good deal of sunshine, a breeze coming in from the south.

0:00:470:00:50

It'll feel quite warm for some, but different in the north and west.

0:00:500:00:54

We've got clouds, a bit of a breeze and some outbreaks of rain

0:00:540:00:58

into Northern Ireland and Western Scotland.

0:00:580:00:59

Eastern Scotland should do quite well

0:00:590:01:01

well on into the afternoon, staying dry and bright.

0:01:010:01:03

Further west, it's quite cloudy and breezy,

0:01:030:01:06

and there'll be some rain just fringing into western

0:01:060:01:08

Wales, and it's not too far away from Cornwall by the

0:01:080:01:10

middle of the afternoon.

0:01:100:01:12

So clouding over ahead of the rain, but I think in the Midlands and much

0:01:120:01:15

of eastern England we're going to hang on to some pretty decent

0:01:150:01:17

spells of sunshine well on into the afternoon,

0:01:170:01:19

and top temperatures in the south-east at 15 or 16 degrees.

0:01:190:01:22

That rain does move eastwards Monday night into Tuesday.

0:01:220:01:25

It fizzles out, though, very little left by Tuesday morning in

0:01:250:01:28

the south-eastern corner, and behind it it's bright and breezy.

0:01:280:01:31

Maybe a few showers coming in on the

0:01:310:01:32

breeze to the north and the west of the UK.

0:01:320:01:34

Top temperatures around 14 or 15 degrees, and that'll be in

0:01:340:01:37

the south-eastern corner, 10 to 12 or 13 for Glasgow and for Belfast.

0:01:370:01:41

Now, as we go through Tuesday night into Wednesday, this big area

0:01:410:01:45

of high pressure becomes quite well established across the UK.

0:01:450:01:47

A fair number of isobars across the north of the UK,

0:01:470:01:50

which means it'll be a bit breezy here through the middle of the week.

0:01:500:01:53

But apart from that we've got a lot of dry and bright weather,

0:01:530:01:56

with lighter winds the further south and west you go.

0:01:560:01:59

Variable amounts of cloud, some sunshine, just about everywhere

0:01:590:02:01

in double figures, peaking at around about 14, maybe 15 degrees.

0:02:010:02:04

A lot of dry weather, just a shower or two coming in on that

0:02:040:02:06

breeze towards the north of the UK.

0:02:060:02:09

And then, through Wednesday night into Thursday,

0:02:090:02:11

we've still got high pressure in charge.

0:02:110:02:13

Still a fair number of isobars across the north of the UK,

0:02:130:02:15

so still quite breezy here, but most of the rain is well to

0:02:150:02:19

the north of the UK and most places will have a decent day on Thursday.

0:02:190:02:22

Again a bit of a chilly start,

0:02:220:02:23

and by the afternoon it's 11 degrees in Glasgow,

0:02:230:02:25

13 or 14 in the London area with a lot of bright weather to be had.

0:02:250:02:30

And we end the week on a fairly similar note.

0:02:300:02:32

A bit chilly first thing, but a lot of dry,

0:02:320:02:34

bright weather with the lightest winds the further south you are.

0:02:340:02:37

And again, it's 12 to 14 degrees for Cardiff and for London,

0:02:370:02:39

maybe 11 or so for Glasgow and for Belfast.

0:02:390:02:43

Now, as we head on into the following weekend,

0:02:430:02:45

high pressure is still just about in charge.

0:02:450:02:47

It's slipping away towards the south,

0:02:470:02:49

and lower pressure is getting closer to the north of the UK,

0:02:490:02:53

which means we might see a little bit of cloud and rain towards

0:02:530:02:55

the north, but further south we've still got that high just

0:02:550:02:58

about lingering on. Particularly in the southern half of the UK

0:02:580:03:00

it should still be quite settled and also relatively warm.

0:03:000:03:04

However, changes are afoot as we look towards the following week,

0:03:040:03:08

because it looks as if a change in type is on the way.

0:03:080:03:11

Low pressure will be taking over, and as it does so,

0:03:110:03:13

it's going to introduce this much colder north-westerly wind.

0:03:130:03:16

Temperatures might start off around about average,

0:03:160:03:18

but I think early into the following week we are going to see

0:03:180:03:21

things turning colder across the board and it's going to

0:03:210:03:23

turn more unsettled, lots of showers. And those showers are

0:03:230:03:26

not just a bit of rain, there's some wintry weather in the north.
