Hello there. It was mixed fortunes this weekend. | 0:00:02 | 0:00:04
We had low pressure in charge of the weather on Saturday. | 0:00:04 | 0:00:06
That brought some sunshine, yes, but also a good scattering of showers. | 0:00:06 | 0:00:09
This was the view taken by one of our Weather Watchers in the | 0:00:09 | 0:00:12
Highlands of Scotland. | 0:00:12 | 0:00:14
But high pressure took over on Sunday, | 0:00:14 | 0:00:16
and that brought a very pleasant day to most parts of the UK - | 0:00:16 | 0:00:19
a good deal of sunshine, | 0:00:19 | 0:00:20
a bit of patchy cloud here and there but a lovely view across the water | 0:00:20 | 0:00:23
captured again by one of our Weather Watchers in St Ives in Cornwall. | 0:00:23 | 0:00:27
The week ahead's looking pretty good. Very little rain to speak of. | 0:00:27 | 0:00:30
There will be some, as you'll see in a minute, | 0:00:30 | 0:00:31
but overall it's looking fine and settled for the most part, | 0:00:31 | 0:00:34
daytime highs typically 12 to 14 degrees. | 0:00:34 | 0:00:37
There are some chilly nights | 0:00:37 | 0:00:38
in the forecast, as well, though. We start Monday on a chilly note. | 0:00:38 | 0:00:41
There'll be a few patches of mist and fog for some southern and | 0:00:41 | 0:00:43
eastern coastal counties. Shouldn't last too long. | 0:00:43 | 0:00:45
Overall, England and Wales are looking at a pleasant day. | 0:00:45 | 0:00:47
A good deal of sunshine, a breeze coming in from the south. | 0:00:47 | 0:00:50
It'll feel quite warm for some, but different in the north and west. | 0:00:50 | 0:00:54
We've got clouds, a bit of a breeze and some outbreaks of rain | 0:00:54 | 0:00:58
into Northern Ireland and Western Scotland. | 0:00:58 | 0:00:59
Eastern Scotland should do quite well | 0:00:59 | 0:01:01
well on into the afternoon, staying dry and bright. | 0:01:01 | 0:01:03
Further west, it's quite cloudy and breezy, | 0:01:03 | 0:01:06
and there'll be some rain just fringing into western | 0:01:06 | 0:01:08
Wales, and it's not too far away from Cornwall by the | 0:01:08 | 0:01:10
middle of the afternoon. | 0:01:10 | 0:01:12
So clouding over ahead of the rain, but I think in the Midlands and much | 0:01:12 | 0:01:15
of eastern England we're going to hang on to some pretty decent | 0:01:15 | 0:01:17
spells of sunshine well on into the afternoon, | 0:01:17 | 0:01:19
and top temperatures in the south-east at 15 or 16 degrees. | 0:01:19 | 0:01:22
That rain does move eastwards Monday night into Tuesday. | 0:01:22 | 0:01:25
It fizzles out, though, very little left by Tuesday morning in | 0:01:25 | 0:01:28
the south-eastern corner, and behind it it's bright and breezy. | 0:01:28 | 0:01:31
Maybe a few showers coming in on the | 0:01:31 | 0:01:32
breeze to the north and the west of the UK. | 0:01:32 | 0:01:34
Top temperatures around 14 or 15 degrees, and that'll be in | 0:01:34 | 0:01:37
the south-eastern corner, 10 to 12 or 13 for Glasgow and for Belfast. | 0:01:37 | 0:01:41
Now, as we go through Tuesday night into Wednesday, this big area | 0:01:41 | 0:01:45
of high pressure becomes quite well established across the UK. | 0:01:45 | 0:01:47
A fair number of isobars across the north of the UK, | 0:01:47 | 0:01:50
which means it'll be a bit breezy here through the middle of the week. | 0:01:50 | 0:01:53
But apart from that we've got a lot of dry and bright weather, | 0:01:53 | 0:01:56
with lighter winds the further south and west you go. | 0:01:56 | 0:01:59
Variable amounts of cloud, some sunshine, just about everywhere | 0:01:59 | 0:02:01
in double figures, peaking at around about 14, maybe 15 degrees. | 0:02:01 | 0:02:04
A lot of dry weather, just a shower or two coming in on that | 0:02:04 | 0:02:06
breeze towards the north of the UK. | 0:02:06 | 0:02:09
And then, through Wednesday night into Thursday, | 0:02:09 | 0:02:11
we've still got high pressure in charge. | 0:02:11 | 0:02:13
Still a fair number of isobars across the north of the UK, | 0:02:13 | 0:02:15
so still quite breezy here, but most of the rain is well to | 0:02:15 | 0:02:19
the north of the UK and most places will have a decent day on Thursday. | 0:02:19 | 0:02:22
Again a bit of a chilly start, | 0:02:22 | 0:02:23
and by the afternoon it's 11 degrees in Glasgow, | 0:02:23 | 0:02:25
13 or 14 in the London area with a lot of bright weather to be had. | 0:02:25 | 0:02:30
And we end the week on a fairly similar note. | 0:02:30 | 0:02:32
A bit chilly first thing, but a lot of dry, | 0:02:32 | 0:02:34
bright weather with the lightest winds the further south you are. | 0:02:34 | 0:02:37
And again, it's 12 to 14 degrees for Cardiff and for London, | 0:02:37 | 0:02:39
maybe 11 or so for Glasgow and for Belfast. | 0:02:39 | 0:02:43
Now, as we head on into the following weekend, | 0:02:43 | 0:02:45
high pressure is still just about in charge. | 0:02:45 | 0:02:47
It's slipping away towards the south, | 0:02:47 | 0:02:49
and lower pressure is getting closer to the north of the UK, | 0:02:49 | 0:02:53
which means we might see a little bit of cloud and rain towards | 0:02:53 | 0:02:55
the north, but further south we've still got that high just | 0:02:55 | 0:02:58
about lingering on. Particularly in the southern half of the UK | 0:02:58 | 0:03:00
it should still be quite settled and also relatively warm. | 0:03:00 | 0:03:04
However, changes are afoot as we look towards the following week, | 0:03:04 | 0:03:08
because it looks as if a change in type is on the way. | 0:03:08 | 0:03:11
Low pressure will be taking over, and as it does so, | 0:03:11 | 0:03:13
it's going to introduce this much colder north-westerly wind. | 0:03:13 | 0:03:16
Temperatures might start off around about average, | 0:03:16 | 0:03:18
but I think early into the following week we are going to see | 0:03:18 | 0:03:21
things turning colder across the board and it's going to | 0:03:21 | 0:03:23
turn more unsettled, lots of showers. And those showers are | 0:03:23 | 0:03:26
not just a bit of rain, there's some wintry weather in the north. | 0:03:26 | 0:03:29 |
