10/04/2017 Weather for the Week Ahead

Hello. Thanks for tuning in. As promised, a beautiful weekend,

clear blue skies across most of the UK.

Most of us managed to get at least one sunny day,

and temperatures, as predicted, hit the mid-20s

in London and the South-east.

Not like it everywhere,

but warm enough in most places.

On Monday, it'll be a lot cooler.

For some of us, a 10-degree drop on the way.

This is the satellite image from earlier on.

You can see how clear

the weather was across England, most of Wales,

but already some cloud encroaching into

Southwestern England and Wales,

and here in the Northwest,

we have a weather front, a cold front,

and that will be moving across the country

during the course of Monday night.

Behind it, that much fresher air

coming in all the way from the Northwest,

so fresher conditions setting in all through the night

and reaching Southern areas as well, where so far,

we've had warm air coming in from

the South instead.

So early on Monday morning,

around five or six degrees

in the middle of town in the North.

Still around 7-9 across the South.

And the week ahead: It's going to be a lot cooler for sure,

but there will be some sunny spells, and most days will actually be dry.

Only from time to time will we get a few showers,

and mostly across Northern areas of the UK.

So the weather map for Monday:

This is the cold front bringing the fresher conditions,

so behind it, the air's tucking in.

It's chilly, it's coming in from the North.

High-pressure sort of starts to nose in

so actually, there will be

a lot of dry weather around.

The few showers that we will get

will be across North-western parts

of Scotland, perhaps running through Northern Ireland,

the odd one moving through

the Lake District and Yorkshire,

perhaps into Lincolnshire as well.

But for the most part, it is going to be a dry day,

and temperatures a lot, lot fresher.

So in London, no longer 25, not 25,

15 degrees Celsius, that is.

10 degrees in Glasgow.

And then Monday night into Tuesday,

high pressure nudges in back across the UK,

so the Southern half of the country

will actually have dry weather,

whereas in the North, we have

weather fronts coming in.

So across Western parts of Scotland,

the Northern Isles, increasing winds

and some spots of rain. The rest of the country,

variable amounts of cloud, a pretty fresh day,

with temperatures typically around

about 11 to 13 degrees,

perhaps a little bit warmer there in London.

And really not an awful lot of change

as we head into Thursday as well.

North-west winds and some clouds

with also showers

across North-western parts of Scotland.

Let's have a look at the Easter period now.

So with Good Friday, starting with Good Friday,

you can see North-westerly winds

again. A lot of dry weather around.

Best of the weather probably across

the Southern and Eastern areas of the UK.

Now, into the Easter weekend itself,

so certainly nothing like what we've just had.

Nowhere near as warm. The jet stream is coming

out of the North-west.

That's where our air is going to be coming from.

That's where the weather is going to be coming from.

High pressure is not quite close enough to the UK,

but close enough so it looks as though

maybe these Western and Southwestern areas will have drier weather,

but cooler air coming in from the North.

In fact, that air could be cold enough

to even bring a few wintry showers

to the tops of the mountains across Scotland.

And then beyond Easter, just a flavour.

That cool air stream comes in from the North

so that's a little bit of a change to the forecast,

if you were watching yesterday.

But in the short term, let's have a look at the summary

for Easter itself.

Cool North-west winds,

there'll be some sunshine and showers,

particularly across Northern areas of the UK,

and the nights will be a little on the chilly side.
