09/04/2017 Weather for the Week Ahead

Thanks for tuning in for the weather for the week ahead.

In the short-term, we've had great weather and more to come

for the second half of the weekend.

In south-eastern parts of England,

temperatures could go up to 25 degrees Celsius.

Pretty unusual for this time of the year.

By Monday, a big drop in the temperature

and the highest value in the UK

will probably be around 15 degrees,

and for many of us, even cooler than that.

What's happening on Sunday?

We've got warm air coming in from

the south across eastern Britain.

This is warmest of the weather.

We're starting to see a change in

the north-west of the country.

The winds are swinging in from the north-west.

We have a cool front approaching

with cloud and some rain.

Look at that temperature of only 12 to 14

for Glasgow and Belfast.

But southerly air wafting up from the south

still into the 20s

across parts of England.

Through the course of Sunday night

into Monday,

that weather front will be crossing the UK.

Behind it,

that north-westerly wind,

much fresher Atlantic air

reaching southern areas as well.

It will be quite chilly early Monday,

these are the city temperature,

out in rural spots

it will be colder than that.

Here's Monday.

That fresher Atlantic air has reached

southern areas by now as well.

The temperatures won't be anywhere near

as high as Sunday here

across the south-east.

Let's take a look at the values.

Talking about 15 degrees for London.

For many of us,

only around 10 or 11 degrees.

And we'll have showers around as well.

Not a bad day,

but certainly a much fresher day,

feeling nowhere near as warm.

Then Monday night into Tuesday,

high pressure starts to nudge back in again.

Just a bit of a nose, a hint of high pressure,

so that means that the southern half of

the UK will have the best of the weather.

Still on the cool side,

but there will be some sunshine.

To the north, you will have

weather fronts coming in,

so places like north-western Scotland

and the Northern Isles

will be getting some rain.

For many of us it will be a dry day.

There's not an awful lot of change for Wednesday.

Quite a brisk north-westerly wind coming in.

Temperate again 10, 12, 13 degrees.

That little bit warmer in the capital,

around 16 degrees Celsius.

By Thursday, again, a similar sort of day.

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday,

not got a lot happening with the weather.

It's just fairly fresh for most of us,

a little bit of rain

or some showers across northern areas

and temperatures say 11 to 15 degrees.

Let's have a look at the Easter period.

This is Good Friday. Here's the jet stream

coming in from the north-west.

Even from the north here.

And that's where our air,

our weather is coming from.

So quite a fresh Good Friday on the way,

with some showers across some northern areas.

Looking at this schematically

through the Easter weekend

we will see mostly cool air

coming in from the north.

Perhaps the south-western

areas hanging on to something.

Just that little bit less,

that little bit milder

and maybe sunnier.

Through the Easter, some rain around,

it's not going to be a write-off ,

but we will have some rain from time to time.

Beyond Easter, high pressure builds in again from the south

and around the high pressure we'll see slightly milder air returning

to the UK, so perhaps those temperatures rising a little bit.

Let's concentrate on Easter

because in the short-term that's most

important at least for now.

It will be a rather cool Easter.

There's not going to be lot of rain around,

just a few scattered showers.

Best of the weather somewhere in the south,

probably the south-west.
