Well, if you're hoping for some glorious weather this Easter | 0:00:02 | 0:00:04
weekend, well, it's not going to happen, we're certainly not going | 0:00:04 | 0:00:07
to have the warmth we had not all that long ago. | 0:00:07 | 0:00:09
It's looking pretty cool and showery, | 0:00:09 | 0:00:12
in the run-up to Easter and throughout Easter itself. | 0:00:12 | 0:00:15
There will be differences from day-to-day, regionally, | 0:00:15 | 0:00:18
but overall, across the UK, | 0:00:18 | 0:00:20
the general weather pattern isn't going to change an awful lot. | 0:00:20 | 0:00:23
We have a very weak area of high pressure to the south of us | 0:00:23 | 0:00:26
and also an equally weak area of low pressure to the north. | 0:00:26 | 0:00:29
What does that mean? | 0:00:29 | 0:00:31
Well, actually, not an awful lot to most of us, | 0:00:31 | 0:00:34
because it just means there will be a fair amount of cloud around, | 0:00:34 | 0:00:37
with some sunshine and showers across the north-west of the UK. | 0:00:37 | 0:00:40
We need more powerful, | 0:00:40 | 0:00:42
bigger weather systems to push the whether through, to see bigger | 0:00:42 | 0:00:45
changes, and we're just not getting that out there in the Atlantic. | 0:00:45 | 0:00:49
And one such weather system comes through during the course of | 0:00:49 | 0:00:52
Thursday night into Good Friday. | 0:00:52 | 0:00:55
Quite a few weather fronts here, but actually, they're very slow-moving, | 0:00:55 | 0:00:58
very sluggish, not an awful lot of wind, but actually quite a bit | 0:00:58 | 0:01:01
of cloud. | 0:01:01 | 0:01:03
So, on Good Friday, it starts off pretty overcast across southern | 0:01:03 | 0:01:06
areas, especially where these weather fronts are crossing, | 0:01:06 | 0:01:09
and with that comes a chance of catching some rain. | 0:01:09 | 0:01:12
Whereas, to the north, away from these weather fronts, | 0:01:12 | 0:01:14
particularly northern England, Scotland, | 0:01:14 | 0:01:16
it looks like the weather will be just that little bit brighter, | 0:01:16 | 0:01:19
but here, too, because there is an area of high pressure to the | 0:01:19 | 0:01:22
north, here too there will be some showers on and off, | 0:01:22 | 0:01:24
throughout the course of the day. | 0:01:24 | 0:01:26
And it's going to be pretty cool as well. | 0:01:26 | 0:01:28
Now, this is Saturday, | 0:01:28 | 0:01:30
so again it's a really messy picture on the weather map. | 0:01:30 | 0:01:33
And high pressure is just about to the west of our neighbourhood, | 0:01:33 | 0:01:38
low pressure is here, | 0:01:38 | 0:01:40
between we get this north-westerly flow of air, | 0:01:40 | 0:01:42
so it remains cool and actually, Saturday may end up being | 0:01:42 | 0:01:46
a reasonably good day, there could be some lengthier sunny spells, | 0:01:46 | 0:01:49
particularly across southern areas. | 0:01:49 | 0:01:51
And this high pressure kind of hangs on to the south during the | 0:01:51 | 0:01:53
course of Easter Day. | 0:01:53 | 0:01:55
Whereas, in the north we've got a weather front and with | 0:01:55 | 0:01:58
the weather front sitting across northern parts of the UK | 0:01:58 | 0:02:00
during Easter, | 0:02:00 | 0:02:01
it does look as though it will be pretty cloudy with some rain. | 0:02:01 | 0:02:04
But in the south, it looks like it'll be | 0:02:04 | 0:02:07
a little bit drier and brighter. | 0:02:07 | 0:02:09
So, we're not really forecasting any substantial heavy outbreaks | 0:02:09 | 0:02:12
of rain, nor particularly overcast conditions, | 0:02:12 | 0:02:15
they are just sort of nuances from day-to-day. | 0:02:15 | 0:02:19
Having said that, on Easter Day, and into Easter... Into Tuesday, | 0:02:19 | 0:02:23
we are going to see weather fronts moving off the Atlantic in a | 0:02:23 | 0:02:27
more substantial way, | 0:02:27 | 0:02:28
so a bigger weather front arrives on Easter Monday and will be | 0:02:28 | 0:02:31
crossing us over the next 24 hours from that, | 0:02:31 | 0:02:34
and that means thicker cloud, outbreaks of rain, | 0:02:34 | 0:02:37
perhaps more of a breeze coming in from the south-west as well. | 0:02:37 | 0:02:40
But eastern areas, as you can see here, | 0:02:40 | 0:02:42
a little bit drier and brighter. | 0:02:42 | 0:02:43
And then that low barrels across the UK, over a period of | 0:02:43 | 0:02:47
around 24 to 48 hours, sitting right on top of us on Tuesday. | 0:02:47 | 0:02:51
So, I think quite a blustery day, with some showers. | 0:02:51 | 0:02:54
So, you get the message that from early next week the weather does | 0:02:54 | 0:02:57
turn a little bit more unsettled, a little bit more changeable. | 0:02:57 | 0:03:01
And then beyond that, | 0:03:01 | 0:03:03
that low that parks itself across the UK or barrels | 0:03:03 | 0:03:06
through slowly, drifts down towards Benelux during the | 0:03:06 | 0:03:10
course of early to middle of next week, | 0:03:10 | 0:03:13
and with high pressure to the west, | 0:03:13 | 0:03:16
you can see how the winds blow round the high pressure here, | 0:03:16 | 0:03:18
around the low pressure here, in between | 0:03:18 | 0:03:20
you get a flow of cooler northerly air. So, overall, | 0:03:20 | 0:03:24
after all of that, | 0:03:24 | 0:03:26
it doesn't look like there's any major change to our weather. | 0:03:26 | 0:03:28
That's it. | 0:03:28 | 0:03:30 |
