Hello there. | 0:00:04 | 0:00:05
High pressure will never be far away from our shores as | 0:00:05 | 0:00:07
we go through the week ahead. | 0:00:07 | 0:00:09
What does that mean? | 0:00:09 | 0:00:10
Well, it means a fair amount of dry weather in the | 0:00:10 | 0:00:12
forecast and some of us have had some dry weather on Easter Sunday, | 0:00:12 | 0:00:15
with some sunny spells. | 0:00:15 | 0:00:18
But it wasn't the case everywhere. | 0:00:18 | 0:00:20
There was thicker cloud and some outbreaks of rain | 0:00:20 | 0:00:22
as well further north. | 0:00:22 | 0:00:25
This from one of our Weather Watchers in Cumbria. | 0:00:25 | 0:00:27
But the weather system responsible is moving off into the | 0:00:27 | 0:00:29
near continent, leaving high pressure to take control from | 0:00:29 | 0:00:31
the west. | 0:00:31 | 0:00:33
However, with this area of low pressure to the east, we start | 0:00:33 | 0:00:37
Easter Monday with a northerly wind, and particularly behind this | 0:00:37 | 0:00:41
front here, which will be diving south, we are going to have some | 0:00:41 | 0:00:44
cold air working its way and that air coming all the way from | 0:00:44 | 0:00:47
the Arctic. | 0:00:47 | 0:00:48
So certainly quite a chilly feel to the day and some wintry | 0:00:48 | 0:00:51
showers sliding across northern and eastern areas. | 0:00:51 | 0:00:55
Most of snow over high ground, particularly as this front gets down | 0:00:55 | 0:00:57
as far south as northern England. | 0:00:57 | 0:01:01
Elsewhere, we will see some spells of sunshine | 0:01:01 | 0:01:02
developing, one or two scattered showers, temperatures though just | 0:01:02 | 0:01:05
eight degrees in Aberdeen with a fairly brisk breeze as well. | 0:01:05 | 0:01:08
Now our little weather front continues to | 0:01:10 | 0:01:12
journey its way south through the night. | 0:01:12 | 0:01:14
As the skies clear, behind it is going to turn chilly, | 0:01:14 | 0:01:17
particularly out in the countryside. | 0:01:17 | 0:01:19
A really frosty night to come in places. | 0:01:23 | 0:01:25
That could be a bit of a shock to the system if you're | 0:01:25 | 0:01:28
heading back to work early on Tuesday morning. | 0:01:28 | 0:01:30
But as well as frosty nights in the week ahead, | 0:01:30 | 0:01:32
there is going to be a lot of dry weather and some spells | 0:01:32 | 0:01:35
of sunshine. | 0:01:35 | 0:01:36
High pressure, it's still with us on Tuesday. | 0:01:36 | 0:01:38
If anything it drifts back south-westwards across the UK. | 0:01:38 | 0:01:40
Notice though fairly tightly squeezed isobars across this | 0:01:40 | 0:01:42
south eastern corner. | 0:01:42 | 0:01:44
So a keen north-easterly breeze making it feel chilly. | 0:01:46 | 0:01:48
Also bringing one or two showers here. | 0:01:48 | 0:01:50
For most areas though it is a dry day, but | 0:01:50 | 0:01:52
temperatures particularly across the northern half of the UK, | 0:01:52 | 0:01:54
pegged back into single digits. | 0:01:54 | 0:01:56
Tuesday night into Wednesday, high pressure firmly in charge. | 0:01:56 | 0:01:58
It's going to be a very cold night. | 0:01:58 | 0:02:00
Some spots might get down as low as minus six or minus | 0:02:03 | 0:02:06
seven degrees, believe it or not. | 0:02:06 | 0:02:08
Into Wednesday, still one or two showers across the south-east, but | 0:02:08 | 0:02:10
we will lose the strength of that north-easterly wind. | 0:02:10 | 0:02:12
Some sunshine in the south. | 0:02:12 | 0:02:15
More cloud further north and for Thursday that cloudier | 0:02:15 | 0:02:17
weather will drift further south and east. | 0:02:17 | 0:02:19
Having said that, sunshine in the south-east could lift | 0:02:19 | 0:02:21
temperatures to 16 or 17 degrees. | 0:02:21 | 0:02:21
Some rain across the far north-west of Scotland. | 0:02:23 | 0:02:25
Now that wet weather is tied in with this weather front, | 0:02:25 | 0:02:27
quite a weak affair, but as it slides its | 0:02:27 | 0:02:30
way across Scotland on | 0:02:30 | 0:02:31
Friday, it will bring the return of some colder air from the north. | 0:02:31 | 0:02:35
Just nine or ten degrees here on Friday afternoon. | 0:02:36 | 0:02:39
Whereas towards the south-east, we could well get up | 0:02:39 | 0:02:41
into the high teens. | 0:02:41 | 0:02:41
So a bit of a contrast in our temperatures by this stage. | 0:02:41 | 0:02:43
By next weekend, high pressure is still not that far away, | 0:02:47 | 0:02:50
but it does drift a little bit further west allowing the winds to | 0:02:50 | 0:02:53
switch around to more of a northerly. | 0:02:53 | 0:02:56
Now, of course, it's the jet stream that drives all our | 0:02:56 | 0:02:59
weather systems and by next weekend the jet stream looks likely to be | 0:02:59 | 0:03:02
driving down the eastern side of the UK and that is going to spin up | 0:03:02 | 0:03:06
areas of low pressure, it is closest to these areas of low | 0:03:06 | 0:03:08
pressure across the north and east that we | 0:03:08 | 0:03:10
have some potential for some windy and at times wet weather and maybe | 0:03:10 | 0:03:13
even some wintry showers. | 0:03:13 | 0:03:14
Because notice that cold air is returning | 0:03:14 | 0:03:16
from the north. | 0:03:16 | 0:03:17
So through next weekend and beyond it is going to | 0:03:17 | 0:03:19
turn colder, frosty nights, it will be windy at times, particularly | 0:03:19 | 0:03:22
towards the north-east, where there will also be some rain | 0:03:22 | 0:03:25
and maybe even some wintry showers. | 0:03:25 | 0:03:26
That's all from me for now. | 0:03:26 | 0:03:30 |
