Hello, there. If you were looking for drama from the weather,

0:00:000:00:02

well, it's been a bit lacking this weekend so far.

0:00:020:00:05

Things have been fairly quiet and I have to say

0:00:050:00:07

there's nothing much more dramatic on the horizon

0:00:070:00:09

through the week ahead.

0:00:090:00:10

A lot of dry weather and some sunny spells but,

0:00:100:00:13

bear in mind, at night

0:00:130:00:15

things will turn very cold and very frosty.

0:00:150:00:18

But back to the here and now through Easter Day,

0:00:180:00:20

we are going to see this wiggling weather front

0:00:200:00:22

causing one or two weather headaches.

0:00:220:00:24

A zone of cloud and outbreaks of rain

0:00:240:00:26

moving across central areas of the UK.

0:00:260:00:29

Bit of uncertainty about just how far north

0:00:290:00:31

or just how far south that wet weather will be.

0:00:310:00:34

And to the north of that, if you're off for

0:00:340:00:36

a lunchtime stroll across the northern half of Scotland,

0:00:360:00:39

actually a decent afternoon with some sunshine

0:00:390:00:41

and just a few showers.

0:00:410:00:42

But through Northern Ireland,

0:00:420:00:44

down into northern England, north Wales and the Midlands,

0:00:440:00:46

we're likely to have some outbreaks of rain,

0:00:460:00:48

maybe even some snow mixed in

0:00:480:00:49

over the highest ground of the Pennines

0:00:490:00:51

and temperatures really struggling.

0:00:510:00:53

Seven Celsius there in Hull.

0:00:530:00:55

Down towards the far south-west,

0:00:550:00:57

well, here should avoid most of the wet weather

0:00:570:00:59

and it will be that bit milder as well.

0:00:590:01:01

And as we head towards the end of the day,

0:01:010:01:03

we'll see that rain clearing away to the south-east

0:01:030:01:06

to leave a pretty chilly night, actually.

0:01:060:01:08

It will be quite a cold start to Easter Monday,

0:01:080:01:10

particularly where we have some clear spells.

0:01:100:01:12

Towns and cities, 3 to 9 Celsius.

0:01:120:01:14

But out in the countryside,

0:01:140:01:16

a frosty night in prospect.

0:01:160:01:18

So, Easter Monday starts off like this,

0:01:180:01:20

high pressure to the west, low pressure to the east,

0:01:200:01:23

that gives us a northerly wind.

0:01:230:01:25

The wind not desperately strong in most places,

0:01:250:01:27

although it will be quite breezy up towards the north-east.

0:01:270:01:30

But what that northerly wind will do

0:01:300:01:32

is bring cold air a long way south

0:01:320:01:35

across the country.

0:01:350:01:36

A very, very chilly feel to the weather

0:01:360:01:38

on Easter Monday.

0:01:380:01:39

There'll be some spells of sunshine,

0:01:390:01:41

there will also be some showers.

0:01:410:01:42

Some of those showers even wintry over high ground,

0:01:420:01:45

especially in the north.

0:01:450:01:46

7 Celsius the best we can expect in Aberdeen,

0:01:460:01:49

maybe 14 in London.

0:01:490:01:50

Now, as we go through Monday night and into Tuesday,

0:01:500:01:53

our area of high pressure topples its way southwards,

0:01:530:01:56

building in across the British Isles.

0:01:560:01:59

Now, on its southern and eastern flank,

0:01:590:02:01

here we'll have some fairly strong winds.

0:02:010:02:03

It will feel chilly towards the south-east.

0:02:030:02:05

One or two showers here as well.

0:02:050:02:06

Just 9 Celsius in Norwich.

0:02:060:02:07

But actually, generally speaking,

0:02:070:02:09

Tuesday is a largely dry day.

0:02:090:02:11

Tuesday night, another cold one

0:02:110:02:13

underneath our area of high pressure.

0:02:130:02:14

But with the high pressure centred right across the heart

0:02:140:02:17

of the British Isles at this stage,

0:02:170:02:19

we're going to cut-off our chilly north

0:02:190:02:21

or north-easterly wind.

0:02:210:02:22

Instead, we see more of a westerly wind across many areas.

0:02:220:02:25

So that will start to lift the temperatures a little bit

0:02:250:02:28

and where you're exposed to that westerly wind,

0:02:280:02:30

there could be some outbreaks of rain for Western Scotland.

0:02:300:02:32

Similar sort of day on Thursday,

0:02:320:02:34

some outbreaks of patchy rain to the north-west,

0:02:340:02:36

a lot of dry weather, some sunshine

0:02:360:02:38

but those temperatures at or even a little above

0:02:380:02:40

where they should be for the time of year.

0:02:400:02:42

Now, for the end of the week,

0:02:420:02:43

our high pressure is still with us

0:02:430:02:45

but at this stage it drifts south-westwards again

0:02:450:02:48

and we start to switch the winds round

0:02:480:02:50

to more of a northerly direction.

0:02:500:02:52

That'll bring something a little bit cooler again.

0:02:520:02:54

Now, of course, our weather driven by the jet stream

0:02:540:02:56

and as we go into next weekend,

0:02:560:02:58

the jet stream is going to be sitting

0:02:580:02:59

to the north of the British Isles

0:02:590:03:01

and that will be spinning up areas of low pressure

0:03:010:03:03

which are likely to run across some northern and eastern areas.

0:03:030:03:05

So that's where we're likely to see

0:03:050:03:07

some of the unsettled weather,

0:03:070:03:09

as well as some fairly cool weather.

0:03:090:03:10

Further south and west, high pressure holding on

0:03:100:03:13

so a lot of dry weather here.

0:03:130:03:15

And actually, generally speaking,

0:03:150:03:16

there will be a lot of dry weather

0:03:160:03:17

through next weekend, some sunny spells.

0:03:170:03:19

The wettest of the weather towards the north-east

0:03:190:03:21

and it will be chilly, particularly in the north.

0:03:210:03:23

Winds, though, will be mainly light.

0:03:230:03:25

That's all from me for now.
