What a difference a week makes. | 0:00:02 | 0:00:04
Last weekend, and you've probably forgotten by now, | 0:00:04 | 0:00:06
it was 25 degrees Celsius across the south of the UK. | 0:00:06 | 0:00:11
This weekend, it's closer to 10 degrees across some parts of | 0:00:11 | 0:00:15
the country, 15 at best. | 0:00:15 | 0:00:17
And it is going to stay pretty chilly because the air is | 0:00:17 | 0:00:19
coming in all the way from the Arctic. | 0:00:19 | 0:00:22
Now, this time of the year, Arctic air doesn't feel that cold | 0:00:22 | 0:00:26
because we got some strong sunshine about, | 0:00:26 | 0:00:28
and there has been a bit of sunshine around during the course of Friday, | 0:00:28 | 0:00:31
but, overall, a lot of cloud, there are some showers around as well, and | 0:00:31 | 0:00:35
this cool pattern with plenty of cloud and spots of rain, | 0:00:35 | 0:00:40
on and off, is going to continue, not just through the whole of | 0:00:40 | 0:00:44
Easter, but it looks like well into next week as well. | 0:00:44 | 0:00:47
So, these are the temperatures for Saturday. | 0:00:47 | 0:00:49
Single figures in the far north of the country. | 0:00:49 | 0:00:51
Maybe 15 in London, briefly, | 0:00:51 | 0:00:53
depending on how much sunshine we are going to get. | 0:00:53 | 0:00:55
And, then, into Easter Day, so, the early hours of Easter Day can | 0:00:55 | 0:00:58
see some rain getting into north-western parts of the UK. | 0:00:58 | 0:01:01
It will start off dry in the far south, and in fact, | 0:01:01 | 0:01:03
if you are up very early in the morning, for some of us, | 0:01:03 | 0:01:06
Easter Day is going to start off quite sunny, but very quickly, | 0:01:06 | 0:01:09
the clouds will stream in off the Atlantic, and there is | 0:01:09 | 0:01:13
still uncertainty, exactly, where this lump of rain is going to go. | 0:01:13 | 0:01:16
It could go a little bit further south, | 0:01:16 | 0:01:17
a little bit further north, but the thinking is that closer towards | 0:01:17 | 0:01:20
the south west, the weather is going to be just that little bit better. | 0:01:20 | 0:01:24
Now, on Easter Monday, this sort of flabby air of high pressure | 0:01:24 | 0:01:28
close to our neighbourhood is actually out west. | 0:01:28 | 0:01:30
And with low pressure here, the winds are coming in from | 0:01:30 | 0:01:33
the north, so we still keep that cool airstream. | 0:01:33 | 0:01:36
Look at that - single figure temperatures with showers | 0:01:36 | 0:01:39
all the way down to the Norfolk coast. | 0:01:39 | 0:01:42
Now, finally, as we get into Tuesday, | 0:01:42 | 0:01:44
high pressure anchors itself across the UK | 0:01:44 | 0:01:46
so that means that winds fall light, there will be clear skies. | 0:01:46 | 0:01:49
But with clear skies, there is a good chance of some frost, | 0:01:49 | 0:01:53
ground frost at the very least, and in fact, air frost in some places. | 0:01:53 | 0:01:55
So, first thing on Tuesday in rural areas, | 0:01:55 | 0:01:58
it could be down to freezing or below. | 0:01:58 | 0:02:00
Then, during the day, struggling to around 10 or 11 degrees, | 0:02:00 | 0:02:03
again just that little bit warmer in London. | 0:02:03 | 0:02:07
And, then, on Wednesday, this weak weather front | 0:02:07 | 0:02:09
just about squeezes itself into this area of high pressure. | 0:02:09 | 0:02:12
When this happens, | 0:02:12 | 0:02:14
it generally means there is not an awful lot of oomph to the weather | 0:02:14 | 0:02:16
front, not an awful lot of rain, | 0:02:16 | 0:02:19
it may just be an area of cloud sitting on top of Scotland | 0:02:19 | 0:02:21
but to the south of that, | 0:02:21 | 0:02:22
it does look as though it's going to be dry. | 0:02:22 | 0:02:24
And, then, this high pressure sticks around just to the west of us. | 0:02:24 | 0:02:28
You've got broadly low pressure here. | 0:02:28 | 0:02:30
The winds blow around like so so we keep getting that flow of | 0:02:30 | 0:02:34
north-westerly winds but actually with the high-pressure fairly close | 0:02:34 | 0:02:37
to us on Thursday, in the centre of it, | 0:02:37 | 0:02:39
there's not going to be much wind around at all. | 0:02:39 | 0:02:41
So, it may end up being quite nice day. | 0:02:41 | 0:02:43
And, next week, broadly speaking, | 0:02:43 | 0:02:45
the high pressure is just again to the west of us. | 0:02:45 | 0:02:47
Low pressure to the east. If you were watching yesterday, | 0:02:47 | 0:02:50
it hasn't really changed. | 0:02:50 | 0:02:51
Between these two, the air keeps on coming in from the north, | 0:02:51 | 0:02:54
we're not getting anything from the South. | 0:02:54 | 0:02:56
As long as that happens, it is not going to be warming up in a hurry. | 0:02:56 | 0:02:59
Now, the thinking is that later next week, | 0:02:59 | 0:03:01
that high pressure may drift away little bit and when that | 0:03:01 | 0:03:03
happens, it opens the doors for low pressure to kind of sneak in. | 0:03:03 | 0:03:07
But they are not going to be very big or wet or windy areas of | 0:03:07 | 0:03:11
low pressure, it is because the jet stream is very weak. | 0:03:11 | 0:03:14
When we get a week slow-moving jet stream - | 0:03:14 | 0:03:16
and again I was talking about that yesterday - the lows aren't | 0:03:16 | 0:03:19
particularly intense, so the weather is kind of neither here nor there. | 0:03:19 | 0:03:22
So, the best way to describe it - it's looking pretty chilly, | 0:03:22 | 0:03:25
there will be some sunshine, and just be prepared for a few showers. | 0:03:25 | 0:03:28 |
