01/05/2017 Weather for the Week Ahead

Hello. We saw a warming trend taking place for the bank holiday weekend.

Sunday shaped up to be the best day for many of us

with regards to sunshine,

though we did see rain in southern and south-western areas,

very wet conditions into Cornwall and Devon,

as our Weather Watcher pictures prove,

but further north, we saw the best of the sunshine, albeit hazy,

with strong winds.

For the week ahead, it looks like high pressure

will be dominating the scene,

so for many of us, it'll be mostly dry

but because we'll be picking up an east or north-easterly wind,

it'll be cooler in the east with a bit of cloud, maybe some showers,

and we'll always see the highest temperatures

and the best of the sunshine

across sheltered western parts.

Back into Monday,

we've got an area of low pressure.

This will be primarily affecting

most of England and Wales.

We could see persistent rain

for south Wales and southwest England.

Elsewhere, it's a mixture of sunshine and showers,

some of which could be heavy, maybe thundery

and slow moving.

For Scotland and Northern Ireland,

the best of this drier, brighter weather,

maybe 18 Celsius across the Northwest Highlands,

even 15 or 16 for northwest England

and Northern Ireland.

By Tuesday,

we see the low pressure

ebbing away towards the south

into the near Continent,

so it looks drier for Tuesday,

as we pick up an easterly wind

as high pressure builds in from the north.

It will feed in cool winds to

eastern coastal areas as the North Sea

is quite cool at the moment,

maybe the odd shower around,

so the better spells of sunshine

towards the south and the west,

again quite warm in places,

upper teen Celsius.

As we head into Wednesday,

the easterly winds pick up in strength

and bring in cooler air from Scandinavia,

so it will feel chilly along eastern coastal areas

and an area of low pressure

across the near Continent

will feed more cloud and showers

towards East Anglia and the southeast.

10 or 11 Celsius

on the east coast.

As you head inland,

again the best of the sunshine and shelter

will be further south and west,

potentially southwest Scotland seeing highs of the temperatures.

Thursday - high pressure dominates the scene

for much of the UK,

fairly strong winds,

so this will feed in a lot of cloud,

further showers to East Anglia and the southeast.

It really will feel quite cold for the time of year

on the coast, but the best of the sunshine will be further west,

where temperatures will reach 14 or 15 degrees.

So, day by day, temperatures will be falling

as we continue to pull in

cooler air from the northeast.

Friday starts to see signs of stronger winds and rain

pushing up from the south.

By next weekend,

the first weekend of May,

we'll be seeing of low pressure

located towards the south of the UK

and the potential of high pressure

holding on across the north.

That means it'll be more unsettled

across the south,

more settled in the north,

close to that area of high pressure,

with light winds and shelter,

western Scotland will see

scenes like this - lots of sunshine

and feeling fairly warm.

Further south and east,

we'll see more grey skies,

outbreaks of rain

and it'll feel cooler.

That wind will be chilly,

coming in from the east,

strong at times across the south,

as we move into the middle part

of May. The high pressure continues

to bring fairly dry weather

to the north, with sunshine,

but always that risk of rain
