Hello. It's a bank holiday weekend | 0:00:02 | 0:00:03
and we have very few bank holiday weekends | 0:00:03 | 0:00:05
where we get no rain whatsoever. | 0:00:05 | 0:00:07
This one is no exception. | 0:00:07 | 0:00:08
It's not going to be a wash-out by any means, | 0:00:08 | 0:00:10
but some central and southern areas | 0:00:10 | 0:00:12
will see rain on Sunday and into Bank Holiday Monday. | 0:00:12 | 0:00:15
One thing is for sure - it has been a little bit warmer, | 0:00:15 | 0:00:17
certainly than what it has been for the past week, | 0:00:17 | 0:00:19
where we've had some wintry showers. | 0:00:19 | 0:00:21
It will turn quite windy, | 0:00:21 | 0:00:22
particularly on Sunday, and, like I mentioned, | 0:00:22 | 0:00:24
there will be some rain across southern parts. | 0:00:24 | 0:00:26
Been a glorious day on Saturday | 0:00:26 | 0:00:28
across the south coast, | 0:00:28 | 0:00:29
like this picture shows in Hampshire, | 0:00:29 | 0:00:30
but further north, we had a lot of cloud. | 0:00:30 | 0:00:32
Now, Sunday's starting off on a dry note - | 0:00:32 | 0:00:34
quite windy, though. | 0:00:34 | 0:00:35
There will be spells of sunshine. | 0:00:35 | 0:00:37
Best of it across northern, central | 0:00:37 | 0:00:38
and eastern areas, | 0:00:38 | 0:00:40
because across the south-west, | 0:00:40 | 0:00:41
a weather front will be moving northwards and eastwards, | 0:00:41 | 0:00:44
introducing some pretty heavy rain in places. | 0:00:44 | 0:00:46
To the north, it stays dry, | 0:00:46 | 0:00:47
where you have the sunshine feeling quite warm, | 0:00:47 | 0:00:49
temperatures into the upper teens Celsius. | 0:00:49 | 0:00:51
Now, this area of low pressure | 0:00:51 | 0:00:53
will be affecting much of central southern Britain | 0:00:53 | 0:00:55
through the course of Bank Holiday Monday. | 0:00:55 | 0:00:57
It looks like some areas will be quite wet, | 0:00:57 | 0:01:00
other areas seeing some showers, | 0:01:00 | 0:01:01
and also some sunny spells in-between. | 0:01:01 | 0:01:03
I think southern coastal areas will see | 0:01:03 | 0:01:05
most of the rain, it'll feel quite cool, | 0:01:05 | 0:01:07
with a strong wind. | 0:01:07 | 0:01:08
Fairly windy across Scotland, but here, | 0:01:08 | 0:01:10
you'll see the best of the sunshine, | 0:01:10 | 0:01:11
especially Western Scotland in towards Northern Ireland. | 0:01:11 | 0:01:14
With some shelter from that easterly wind, | 0:01:14 | 0:01:16
we could be seeing temperatures | 0:01:16 | 0:01:17
around 17 or 18 degrees | 0:01:17 | 0:01:18
across the North-West Highlands. | 0:01:18 | 0:01:20
Generally speaking, | 0:01:20 | 0:01:21
around the low to mid teens Celsius in the sunshine. | 0:01:21 | 0:01:24
Now, this area of low pressure | 0:01:24 | 0:01:25
eventually begins to pull away | 0:01:25 | 0:01:27
in towards the near continent. | 0:01:27 | 0:01:28
Things turn a bit drier | 0:01:28 | 0:01:29
as we head on in towards Tuesday, | 0:01:29 | 0:01:31
and then you'll notice high pressure, | 0:01:31 | 0:01:33
a ridge of high pressure, | 0:01:33 | 0:01:34
starts to influence our weather. | 0:01:34 | 0:01:35
So looks like we'll still have the remnants | 0:01:35 | 0:01:37
of that area of low pressure | 0:01:37 | 0:01:38
bringing some showers to the east coast, | 0:01:38 | 0:01:40
in towards East Anglia. | 0:01:40 | 0:01:41
The further west you are, the better the sunshine, | 0:01:41 | 0:01:44
and the best of the temperatures. | 0:01:44 | 0:01:45
And that's the set-up as we head through | 0:01:45 | 0:01:47
the course of the week - | 0:01:47 | 0:01:48
west will always fare best, because eastern areas | 0:01:48 | 0:01:51
will have a bit of a nagging easterly breeze | 0:01:51 | 0:01:53
and sea temperatures are quite cool | 0:01:53 | 0:01:55
in the North Sea. Bit of a breeze | 0:01:55 | 0:01:57
across the south-east, through the Channel, | 0:01:57 | 0:01:59
that'll take the edge off the temperatures, | 0:01:59 | 0:02:01
where we'll also have a fair amount of cloud. | 0:02:01 | 0:02:02
Head further inland, | 0:02:02 | 0:02:04
and when you get some sunshine, | 0:02:04 | 0:02:05
it'll feel very pleasant, | 0:02:05 | 0:02:06
especially across Scotland, | 0:02:06 | 0:02:08
Western Scotland and Northern Ireland. | 0:02:08 | 0:02:10
Now, high pressure is firmly in control | 0:02:10 | 0:02:12
as we head on in towards Thursday, | 0:02:12 | 0:02:13
looks like winds will be lighter | 0:02:13 | 0:02:15
the further north you are, a bit more of a breeze | 0:02:15 | 0:02:17
across the east and the south-east. | 0:02:17 | 0:02:19
So feeling quite chilly | 0:02:19 | 0:02:20
across eastern coastal areas. | 0:02:20 | 0:02:22
Like I mentioned, further south than west, | 0:02:22 | 0:02:23
with some sunshine and shelter | 0:02:23 | 0:02:25
from that north-easterly wind, | 0:02:25 | 0:02:26
then you'll see the best of the temperatures. | 0:02:26 | 0:02:28
The reason why it is cool on the coast, | 0:02:28 | 0:02:30
particularly in the east, | 0:02:30 | 0:02:31
is because sea temperatures, | 0:02:31 | 0:02:33
as you can see, are ranging between | 0:02:33 | 0:02:35
7 and 9 Celsius, | 0:02:35 | 0:02:36
so you'll have to head further inland | 0:02:36 | 0:02:38
and towards the west, where you have the sunshine, | 0:02:38 | 0:02:40
to feel the warmth. | 0:02:40 | 0:02:41
Now, as we head beyond this period, | 0:02:41 | 0:02:43
Thursday into Friday, | 0:02:43 | 0:02:45
high pressure will continue | 0:02:45 | 0:02:46
to dominate the picture, | 0:02:46 | 0:02:47
but this area of low pressure | 0:02:47 | 0:02:49
will be pushing up across southern areas, | 0:02:49 | 0:02:51
so we could see thicker cloud | 0:02:51 | 0:02:52
and also a few showers being | 0:02:52 | 0:02:54
pushed in towards southern England. | 0:02:54 | 0:02:56
So for the start of May, | 0:02:56 | 0:02:57
this is the set-up - | 0:02:57 | 0:02:58
high pressure dominates the scene | 0:02:58 | 0:03:00
to the north of the UK, | 0:03:00 | 0:03:01
low pressure to the south, | 0:03:01 | 0:03:03
and what it will do | 0:03:03 | 0:03:04
is bring average temperatures, | 0:03:04 | 0:03:06
maybe even a little below average, | 0:03:06 | 0:03:08
for the time of year, | 0:03:08 | 0:03:09
as we will be pulling in air | 0:03:09 | 0:03:11
off from the North Sea. | 0:03:11 | 0:03:12
So it will be mainly settled | 0:03:12 | 0:03:13
closer to that area of high pressure, | 0:03:13 | 0:03:15
cooler, like I mentioned, particularly at night, | 0:03:15 | 0:03:17
but in the sunshine, it'll still feel quite warm. | 0:03:17 | 0:03:20
Further south, we are likely to see a few showers | 0:03:20 | 0:03:22
and more cloud because of that area of low pressure | 0:03:22 | 0:03:24
pushing up into Biscay, | 0:03:24 | 0:03:25
and here, we should see more sunshine | 0:03:25 | 0:03:28
where it'll feel a little bit warmer. | 0:03:28 | 0:03:29 |
