Hello. As the month of April comes to a close, | 0:00:02 | 0:00:04
it certainly has been a dry affair. | 0:00:04 | 0:00:06
On a plus point, it has allowed us | 0:00:06 | 0:00:08
to get out and enjoy the spring beauty. | 0:00:08 | 0:00:10
We've seen some fantastic pictures of spring - cherry blossom, | 0:00:10 | 0:00:14
along with some blue sky and sunshine from time to time. | 0:00:14 | 0:00:17
Rapeseed in full bloom quite early in the season, | 0:00:17 | 0:00:20
and I'm sure farmers, gardeners and growers amongst you | 0:00:20 | 0:00:23
are starting to take a keen interest | 0:00:23 | 0:00:26
in when are we going to see | 0:00:26 | 0:00:27
significant rainfall. | 0:00:27 | 0:00:29
Although April hasn't officially | 0:00:29 | 0:00:31
come to a close | 0:00:31 | 0:00:32
and we haven't got all the statistics in, | 0:00:32 | 0:00:34
you can see the darker browns | 0:00:34 | 0:00:36
denoting that rainfall has been | 0:00:36 | 0:00:38
below average in many places. | 0:00:38 | 0:00:40
Now, the potential for change here | 0:00:40 | 0:00:42
is likely in the southwest | 0:00:42 | 0:00:44
as we could see heavier rain for the start of the bank holiday weekend, | 0:00:44 | 0:00:47
but for most of us, the weekend looks quite promising. | 0:00:47 | 0:00:50
A little warmer than recent days, | 0:00:50 | 0:00:52
chance of some rain, primarily into the southwest during Sunday. | 0:00:52 | 0:00:56
Saturday looks very nice indeed. | 0:00:56 | 0:00:59
A dry start, | 0:00:59 | 0:01:00
winds from a southerly direction, | 0:01:00 | 0:01:03
so feeling milder if you get the sunshine, | 0:01:03 | 0:01:05
and showers chiefly into Northern Ireland, | 0:01:05 | 0:01:08
southwest Scotland | 0:01:08 | 0:01:09
and maybe into the Lake District, | 0:01:09 | 0:01:11
with highs of 17 Celsius, | 0:01:11 | 0:01:13
63 Fahrenheit. | 0:01:13 | 0:01:15
Here's that area of low pressure | 0:01:15 | 0:01:17
pushing into the southwest. | 0:01:17 | 0:01:19
The winds will increase, | 0:01:19 | 0:01:20
a noticeably breezier day | 0:01:20 | 0:01:23
but the rain primarily | 0:01:23 | 0:01:25
through Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, | 0:01:25 | 0:01:28
eventually into Wales, | 0:01:28 | 0:01:29
not arriving in the Midlands till the end of the day, | 0:01:29 | 0:01:32
and with that south-easterly breeze, | 0:01:32 | 0:01:35
18 degrees in the southeast. | 0:01:35 | 0:01:37
We could see a 17 | 0:01:37 | 0:01:39
in sheltered areas of Scotland as well. | 0:01:39 | 0:01:42
That front grinds to a halt | 0:01:42 | 0:01:44
as it pushes north and east. | 0:01:44 | 0:01:46
We're not going to see any significant rain | 0:01:46 | 0:01:49
in Scotland, so for bank holiday Monday, | 0:01:49 | 0:01:51
a weak affair, sunny spells | 0:01:51 | 0:01:53
and scattered showers | 0:01:53 | 0:01:54
across England and Wales. | 0:01:54 | 0:01:56
Still quite breezy, | 0:01:56 | 0:01:58
and that'll make it feel chillier, | 0:01:58 | 0:02:00
highs are likely of 10 to 15 degrees. | 0:02:00 | 0:02:03
As we move into Tuesday, | 0:02:03 | 0:02:05
we see a quieter pattern of weather, | 0:02:05 | 0:02:09
and the winds will fall light yet again, | 0:02:09 | 0:02:13
so the isobars open up | 0:02:13 | 0:02:15
and it looks as though we'll see | 0:02:15 | 0:02:17
a good deal of dry weather in the story, | 0:02:17 | 0:02:19
and temperatures up as high as 18 degrees. | 0:02:19 | 0:02:22
This will set a pattern | 0:02:22 | 0:02:24
for a warming trend | 0:02:24 | 0:02:25
for the early half of May. | 0:02:25 | 0:02:27
Little change on Wednesday, | 0:02:27 | 0:02:30
again the isobars widely opened up, | 0:02:30 | 0:02:32
the winds are light, | 0:02:32 | 0:02:33
however they are pushing in off the North Sea, | 0:02:33 | 0:02:37
so on exposed east coasts, | 0:02:37 | 0:02:39
it'll feel chillier. | 0:02:39 | 0:02:41
Elsewhere, again, a dry, sunny story for many of us. | 0:02:41 | 0:02:44
One reason is the jet stream. | 0:02:44 | 0:02:46
It returns back into this | 0:02:46 | 0:02:48
blocking high-pressure pattern. | 0:02:48 | 0:02:50
In fact, we could, potentially, | 0:02:50 | 0:02:52
for early May, see an Omega Block, | 0:02:52 | 0:02:54
where we've got high pressure centred across the UK | 0:02:54 | 0:02:56
surrounded by low pressure, | 0:02:56 | 0:02:58
so the high not really for moving very far very fast, | 0:02:58 | 0:03:01
and that is going to allow those temperatures to climb on the up | 0:03:01 | 0:03:05
for the first seven to ten days of May, | 0:03:05 | 0:03:08
maybe into the low 20s. | 0:03:08 | 0:03:11
So that is good news, | 0:03:11 | 0:03:12
but it does come with a caveat. | 0:03:12 | 0:03:14
With the winds coming in off the cold North Sea | 0:03:14 | 0:03:17
on exposed east coasts, | 0:03:17 | 0:03:19
it'll just feel that bit cooler. | 0:03:19 | 0:03:22
Get in some shelter. | 0:03:22 | 0:03:23
Further west, not looking too bad at all. | 0:03:23 | 0:03:26
That's it. Enjoy your bank holiday weekend | 0:03:26 | 0:03:29
whatever you're doing. | 0:03:29 | 0:03:30 |
