Hello. April draws to a close and we finally found our April showers. | 0:00:02 | 0:00:05
But I suspect for many the month will be characterised with | 0:00:05 | 0:00:09
pictures like this. | 0:00:09 | 0:00:10
We'll have these lovely memories of beautiful spring blossom, | 0:00:10 | 0:00:13
a lot of dry weather around and from time to time some sunshine. | 0:00:13 | 0:00:18
And that is because we have had this fairly consistent pattern | 0:00:18 | 0:00:21
with the jet stream sitting out in the Atlantic allowing high | 0:00:21 | 0:00:24
pressure from the near continent to dominate the weather story. | 0:00:24 | 0:00:28
But, as we move toward the bank holiday weekend, | 0:00:28 | 0:00:30
we are set for things to change, albeit briefly. | 0:00:30 | 0:00:33
With an injection of heat moving out of the States and that is | 0:00:33 | 0:00:36
going to add fuel to the fire to the jet stream, almost add this | 0:00:36 | 0:00:40
energy into it and allow the jet stream to squeeze together. | 0:00:40 | 0:00:44
A colleague of mine described this as pulling a piece of Blu-Tack. | 0:00:44 | 0:00:47
Eventually, the more you pull, it will snap. | 0:00:47 | 0:00:50
We will start to see this area of low pressure develop | 0:00:50 | 0:00:53
down to the south-west. | 0:00:53 | 0:00:55
There is a level of uncertainty as to where that low is going to | 0:00:55 | 0:00:58
be sitting as we move towards the bank holiday weekend, | 0:00:58 | 0:01:01
but the jet stream always wants to take the easier option and that | 0:01:01 | 0:01:04
is going to drift across the north of the low allowing this to | 0:01:04 | 0:01:07
dominate, albeit briefly. | 0:01:07 | 0:01:09
More on that in just a moment. | 0:01:09 | 0:01:11
Back to Friday's weather - | 0:01:11 | 0:01:12
relatively quiet with some sunshine around. | 0:01:12 | 0:01:15
The showers should be fairly isolated on Friday. | 0:01:15 | 0:01:17
One or two spits and spots across Wales and the south-west and | 0:01:17 | 0:01:20
a few generally out of the west with highs of 8 to 13 degrees. | 0:01:20 | 0:01:25
As we move out of Friday into Saturday, | 0:01:25 | 0:01:27
not a bad start to our extended weekend. | 0:01:27 | 0:01:30
A good deal of dry weather in the story. | 0:01:30 | 0:01:32
Eventually, we'll start to see the winds increasing. | 0:01:32 | 0:01:35
But the winds are coming from a southerly direction so, | 0:01:35 | 0:01:38
in comparison to earlier in the week, | 0:01:38 | 0:01:39
it is going to feel noticeably warmer. | 0:01:39 | 0:01:41
We could see temperatures as high as 15 degrees with the sunshine. | 0:01:41 | 0:01:45
Just a scattering of isolated showers further north. | 0:01:45 | 0:01:48
9 to 15 degrees the high. | 0:01:48 | 0:01:49
The breeze picking up across those exposed west-facing coasts. | 0:01:49 | 0:01:53
Eventually, we will start see some rain. | 0:01:53 | 0:01:55
So this is the level of uncertainty - | 0:01:55 | 0:01:57
just where this low is likely to be sitting as we move out of | 0:01:57 | 0:02:01
Saturday into Sunday. At the moment, | 0:02:01 | 0:02:03
thoughts are it will be pushing into the south-west and across to Wales. | 0:02:03 | 0:02:07
Do not make this the last forecast you see. | 0:02:07 | 0:02:10
Keep abreast of the story as we go into the bank holiday weekend. | 0:02:10 | 0:02:14
That front will eventually move its way north and east. | 0:02:14 | 0:02:16
Somewhat erratically so, again, there is | 0:02:16 | 0:02:19
a level of uncertainty as to how much rain we are likely to see | 0:02:19 | 0:02:22
as it moves north and east. | 0:02:22 | 0:02:24
But one thing is for sure on Bank Holiday Monday, | 0:02:24 | 0:02:26
we will see one front clearing away to the north-east. | 0:02:26 | 0:02:28
A slice of drier, sunnier weather following on behind and in | 0:02:28 | 0:02:32
the sunshine, it'll feel quite pleasant. | 0:02:32 | 0:02:34
16 degrees is not out of the question, that is 61 Fahrenheit. | 0:02:34 | 0:02:38
Now, as we move into Tuesday, | 0:02:38 | 0:02:40
we always keep a bit more of a breeze out to the west. | 0:02:40 | 0:02:42
These weather fronts will encroach on the western fringes. | 0:02:42 | 0:02:46
Not really further inland. | 0:02:46 | 0:02:48
So we are back to a good slice of dry, sunny weather across | 0:02:48 | 0:02:51
central and eastern areas. | 0:02:51 | 0:02:52
And starting to get a degree or so warmer. | 0:02:52 | 0:02:55
So it really does look as though the jet stream is likely to | 0:02:55 | 0:02:59
revert back to the pattern that we had in April. | 0:02:59 | 0:03:03
So for the beginning of May, we have got the jet stream | 0:03:04 | 0:03:06
out in the Atlantic and the high pressure in the driving seat. | 0:03:06 | 0:03:08
What that basically means is temperatures are set to climb | 0:03:08 | 0:03:11
after that chilly few days. | 0:03:11 | 0:03:13
We could see the potential for temperatures into the 20s | 0:03:13 | 0:03:16
as we move towards the 6-10 day period. | 0:03:16 | 0:03:20
So, after those wintry showers and those frosts of recent days, | 0:03:20 | 0:03:23
if we have still got some bluebells, | 0:03:23 | 0:03:25
hopefully you will be able to go out and enjoy them. | 0:03:25 | 0:03:28
More from me tomorrow. | 0:03:28 | 0:03:29 |
