Hello. Warm and sunny, cold or grey -

0:00:030:00:04

it's one or the other, not much in between

0:00:040:00:06

in the UK at the moment.

0:00:060:00:08

Scotland and Northern Ireland

0:00:080:00:09

have seen most of the warm and sunny -

0:00:090:00:10

this is the view from Wednesday

0:00:100:00:12

at Lowestoft in Suffolk,

0:00:120:00:14

and we saw the cold and grey here,

0:00:140:00:15

even a bit of rain in places into south-east England, as well.

0:00:150:00:19

You can see the cloud coming in,

0:00:190:00:20

and the temperature, we've noticed,

0:00:200:00:22

has barely budged along the coast of East Anglia

0:00:220:00:24

from the Tuesday night

0:00:240:00:25

right the way through until now.

0:00:250:00:27

In fact, the low on Tuesday night was 9 Celsius.

0:00:270:00:29

The high on Wednesday, round about 9 Celsius -

0:00:290:00:33

and the temperature of the sea water off the coast,

0:00:330:00:36

dip your toe in, 9 Celsius.

0:00:360:00:38

And look at this.

0:00:380:00:39

There is a breeze coming in off the sea.

0:00:390:00:41

It's a north-easterly breeze,

0:00:410:00:43

not a warm direction for us,

0:00:430:00:44

and look how much of the North Sea

0:00:440:00:46

this breeze is coming over

0:00:460:00:47

before hitting that coastline of East Anglia.

0:00:470:00:50

So, what we find is, the area is cooled

0:00:500:00:51

closer to that sea temperature of 9 degrees,

0:00:510:00:54

and that's why the temperature

0:00:540:00:55

only reaches around 9 degrees

0:00:550:00:57

underneath that cloud cover in the east.

0:00:570:00:59

Now, it's still a north-easterly breeze

0:00:590:01:00

to the west, but there's some separation

0:01:000:01:02

between Achnagart, here,

0:01:020:01:04

at 20 Celsius on Wednesday in north-west Scotland

0:01:040:01:06

and the North Sea,

0:01:060:01:07

and, of course, there's some sunshine

0:01:070:01:09

to warm the air -

0:01:090:01:10

strong sunshine at this time of year.

0:01:100:01:12

And those contrasts will continue

0:01:120:01:13

as long as this weather pattern does -

0:01:130:01:16

and it's got a lot of life left in it yet.

0:01:160:01:18

With high pressure to the north of us,

0:01:180:01:19

the flow of air coming around that,

0:01:190:01:21

over the North Sea,

0:01:210:01:22

that's pushing that cooler air

0:01:220:01:24

into the North Sea coast,

0:01:240:01:25

whereas, elsewhere, further west,

0:01:250:01:27

you get more warmth -

0:01:270:01:28

you get the best of the sunshine, too.

0:01:280:01:30

Similar picture, then, for Thursday -

0:01:300:01:32

and whilst many places are looking dry

0:01:320:01:34

in this flow of air,

0:01:340:01:35

there will be a few showers around towards southern England,

0:01:350:01:37

maybe some early ones into the Midlands

0:01:370:01:39

and, again, into East Anglia.

0:01:390:01:41

9, 10, 11 degrees, North Sea coast,

0:01:410:01:43

but into the high teens,

0:01:430:01:44

a few spots in the west.

0:01:440:01:46

Little change by Friday.

0:01:460:01:48

Still picking up a few showers

0:01:480:01:49

in that flow into East Anglia,

0:01:490:01:50

south-east England.

0:01:500:01:52

By the way, this is quite a brisk wind,

0:01:520:01:53

as well, quite gusty in places.

0:01:530:01:56

Now, there's something we'll keep on watching

0:01:560:01:58

into the start of the weekend -

0:01:580:01:59

this weather system just pushing up from the south,

0:01:590:02:01

which threatens to bring a bit of rain

0:02:010:02:03

to the Isles of Scilly, Southern counties in England,

0:02:030:02:05

the Channel Islands - but it's still not set in stone

0:02:050:02:08

just how far north this is going to get.

0:02:080:02:10

So, just keep it in mind,

0:02:100:02:12

but keep checking the forecast here.

0:02:120:02:14

Elsewhere, on Saturday, plenty of dry weather.

0:02:140:02:16

The wind easing a little bit through the day.

0:02:160:02:18

The wind is much lighter by the time we get to Sunday,

0:02:180:02:20

but this flow of air over the North Sea

0:02:200:02:23

is still, along this North Sea coast,

0:02:230:02:25

holding back - and will be again on Monday,

0:02:250:02:28

leaving the west and south-west of the UK

0:02:280:02:30

with the higher temperatures

0:02:300:02:32

and barely a breath of wind for some here,

0:02:320:02:35

and some lovely sunshine.

0:02:350:02:36

And this weather pattern looks to continue

0:02:360:02:39

well into next week.

0:02:390:02:40

So, we keep those contrasts between North Sea coast

0:02:400:02:42

and then the sunshine and to the west and south-west,

0:02:420:02:45

the higher temperatures,

0:02:450:02:46

where it will be rather warm.

0:02:460:02:48

Now, there are signs there may be a change, finally,

0:02:480:02:51

later next week,

0:02:510:02:52

because the high pressure

0:02:520:02:54

moves away, low pressure edges in.

0:02:540:02:55

If it settles to the south-west of us,

0:02:550:02:57

it'll be a mild flow, but increasingly unsettled

0:02:570:03:00

with, finally, some of us seeing some rain.

0:03:000:03:03

Low-pressure, though,

0:03:030:03:04

could settle to the north-west of the UK,

0:03:040:03:06

bringing a cooler flow into us here

0:03:060:03:09

and, again, unsettled,

0:03:090:03:10

with some outbreaks of rain showers around.

0:03:100:03:13

So, hints of a breakdown -

0:03:130:03:14

the timing very uncertain.

0:03:140:03:16

Maybe beyond the end of next week,

0:03:160:03:18

and just how that happens,

0:03:180:03:20

where the air is coming from,

0:03:200:03:21

a lot to play for.

0:03:210:03:22

Until then, as you were.

0:03:220:03:24

Warm and sunny, cold or grey.

0:03:240:03:26

Take your pick. Bye-bye.
