05/05/2017 Weather for the Week Ahead

Hello there. Thursday was a day all the plenty of sunshine

but also some temperature contrast from east to west,

just 10 or 11 degrees along the east coast,

but up to 19, 20 degrees

in the west. Porthmadog in the west of Wales

seeing 20 Celsius on Thursday and I think

we'll have a similar sort of day on Friday,

with a good deal of sunshine

and again that temperature contrast

from east to west.

It's going to be around about 15, 16,

17 degrees in some parts of Northern Ireland

through the afternoon with plenty of sunshine

and still a bit of a breeze,

but Western Scotland favoured

for some of the higher temperatures,

into the upper teens quite widely.

Contrast that with just 9 or 10 further east

and there will be some low cloud

lingering around some coasts

in the north and east of Scotland,

but generally a lot of fine and sunny weather.

Temperature contrasts across

northern England, 11, 12

along that in the North Sea coast.

Get further west and it's 15, maybe 16 degrees.

Then we run into the cloud

across East Anglia and the south east.

It'll be breezy too

but in spite of all the cloud,

I don't think we're going to see much,

if any, in the way of rainfall.

There may even be a few breaks

in that cloud along the south coast.

They'll come and go

with the breeze and temperatures will

be around about 15 or so degrees in Cardiff.

A little bit higher than that

on the shores of Cardigan Bay,

into the upper teens here.

Then as we go through the evening,

we might see a little bit of extra cloud

drift its way across the Midlands

bringing a spot or two of rain

and also a little bit of rain just creeping

its way into the far south west,

but many places will be dry.

It'll turn chilly, I suppose -

some major towns and cities into single digits.

There'll be a touch of frost

in the Highlands of Scotland.

Now, as we look towards Saturday,

we've got this area of low pressure

to the south of the UK,

really just a glancing blow in the south-west

with some rainfall here.

Most other places will be fine and dry.

Still with that east or north-easterly wind,

a bit more in the way of cloud on Saturday,

maybe a little bit of rain

to go with that in northern England,

but most of the rain will be down

towards the far south-west and even here,

I don't think it'll last too long.

And temperatures get to around 16,

17 degrees in the brighter weather,

but again on the North Sea coast,

it's 11 or 12 will be fairly typical.

Second part of the weekend,

this little area of low pressure

drifts away towards the near continent

and then the winds fall quite light

across most parts of the UK.

There's still a bit of a breeze

for the North Sea coastal areas on Sunday

and a fair bit of cloud again,

so, again, it's going to stay

on the cool side here, but head away

from the immediate coast

and we've got some dry

and bright weather, some spells of sunshine,

16, 17 degrees in the sunshine,

light winds, that will feel very pleasant indeed,

but always cooler around for that North Sea coast.

As we look towards the start of the new week,

we've got this area of low pressure

to the west of us, trying to throw

the weather fronts towards us, but this ridge of

high pressure is going to keep things

pretty quiet into Monday.

Still a keen breeze for the North Sea coast.

Away from there, light winds,

sunny spells and again it's 15, 16,

17 degrees, pleasant enough in the sunshine,

but always cooler down the eastern coast.

By Tuesday, weather fronts trying to push their way

into the north-west of the UK,

might just bring a bit of extra cloud

and maybe a few spots of rain into Northern Ireland,

but elsewhere it looks like another decent day.

Though the pattern does repeat,

cooler down the North Sea coast

with a fair bit of cloud.

Central and western areas seeing the best

of the spells of sunshine and the highest

of the temperatures the middle to upper teens.

And then later next week -

the middle of the week looks pretty quiet,

Wednesday is a decent day for most,

but through Thursday, Friday, Saturday,

we start to see low-pressure systems

heading our way.

This one will be filling

and this one to the north-west

looks like it'll become a dominant

low that will be driving our weather

and with that comes something a bit more unsettled. It'll be

a gradual change, but we're looking at some stronger winds developing

and that's going to drag in some showers

or some longer spells of rain

and temperatures will be

a little bit below where they should be, on the chilly side.
