Hello there. After the dry April and start to May,

0:00:020:00:05

things have been turning much more unsettled over the past week or so.

0:00:050:00:08

We've had some heavy downpours,

0:00:080:00:10

thundery showers and more persistent rain.

0:00:100:00:12

Here's a scene from Friday in Buckinghamshire.

0:00:120:00:15

You can see the extent of the dark cloud there and heavy

0:00:150:00:18

rain. We also had hail and some thunderstorms as well as more

0:00:180:00:21

persistent rain in the east courtesy of this area of low pressure.

0:00:210:00:24

Now, that's tracking its way northwards as we head through

0:00:240:00:27

the course of Saturday, sitting across the north-east

0:00:270:00:30

of Scotland, and it will bring more persistent rain here.

0:00:300:00:33

But elsewhere through the course of the weekend, Saturday is a day of

0:00:330:00:36

heavy showers and a bit of sunshine in-between those showers, too.

0:00:360:00:40

And then Sunday, the second half of the weekend,

0:00:400:00:42

looks a bit drier as the showers tend to fade away for most of

0:00:420:00:45

us, and things will turn a little bit warmer, too.

0:00:450:00:48

So let's put some detail on the weekend's forecast, then.

0:00:480:00:51

Through Saturday, we've still got cloud and outbreaks of rain across

0:00:510:00:54

north-eastern Scotland in particular.

0:00:540:00:56

Elsewhere across the country, it's sunshine and showers.

0:00:560:00:59

Now, the showers bubbling up, particularly during the afternoon.

0:00:590:01:02

They'll be hit and miss, almost anywhere,

0:01:020:01:04

particularly heavy across parts of Wales into southern England,

0:01:040:01:07

too, some thunderstorms likely.

0:01:070:01:09

18 degrees in the sunshine in-between any of those showers,

0:01:090:01:12

so don't write the day off completely,

0:01:120:01:14

but we will see a few heavy downpours at times.

0:01:140:01:16

And then through to Sunday, then,

0:01:160:01:18

we'll start to see this area of high pressure around the near

0:01:180:01:21

Continent pushing its way in across the UK.

0:01:210:01:23

Now, that higher pressure will squeeze away most of the showers.

0:01:230:01:26

We could still catch a little bit of rain across the far

0:01:260:01:28

north-west of the UK, but for much of the country

0:01:280:01:31

it's going to be a dry day with fairly light winds, too, so in

0:01:310:01:34

the sunshine it's going to feel pleasantly warm, I think,

0:01:340:01:37

with temperatures up to round about 20 degrees or so

0:01:370:01:39

at best towards the south-east.

0:01:390:01:41

A little fresher across parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland.

0:01:410:01:46

Now, looking into the new working week, for Monday we see an area

0:01:460:01:49

of low pressure sitting out towards the north-west.

0:01:490:01:51

Now, that's trying to push in, but it's bumping into the high

0:01:510:01:54

pressure sitting now towards the east of the UK.

0:01:540:01:57

Now, that means on Monday we will see some showery rain,

0:01:570:02:00

particularly in the west, as that low pressure moves in,

0:02:000:02:03

so some showers, blustery at times here.

0:02:030:02:05

The further towards the south-east you go, you're more likely to stay

0:02:050:02:08

dry and bright on Monday, and it is a little bit warmer, too,

0:02:080:02:11

with highs up to round about 22 degrees.

0:02:110:02:14

For Tuesday, we've still got an area of low pressure sitting to

0:02:140:02:17

the north of the UK, but actually, for many places not a bad day,

0:02:170:02:21

a westerly breeze and temperatures pretty much average for the

0:02:210:02:24

time of year, round about 15 to 20 degrees or so

0:02:240:02:27

with some sunshine, so not a bad day.

0:02:270:02:29

Pressure starting to build from the south in towards the middle

0:02:290:02:32

of the week. So, this is Wednesday and on into Thursday.

0:02:320:02:34

You can see this area of high pressure.

0:02:340:02:36

Now, that becomes the driving force of our weather, I think,

0:02:360:02:39

through the middle part of the week,

0:02:390:02:41

but low pressure trying to topple around that at times, too.

0:02:410:02:43

So it won't be dry everywhere through the middle part of

0:02:430:02:46

next week, but we are seeing this high pressure initially

0:02:460:02:49

towards the south-west

0:02:490:02:50

starting to push in across the UK through the middle part of the week.

0:02:500:02:54

Low pressure again affecting northern areas,

0:02:540:02:56

but as we head towards the latter half of next week,

0:02:560:02:59

high pressure does look like it becomes established across

0:02:590:03:01

much of the country. You can see the next area of low pressure likely

0:03:010:03:05

to be trying to move in, so there could well be

0:03:050:03:07

a breakdown in that high pressure late next week and into the weekend.

0:03:070:03:11

But in general, the most likely scenario

0:03:110:03:13

is that that high pressure holds on into next weekend, so a lot of dry,

0:03:130:03:17

settled weather. Could be quite warm at times,

0:03:170:03:19

but cooler conditions with some showers around the east coast

0:03:190:03:23

as we draw in the breeze here coming in from the North Sea.

0:03:230:03:26

That's it for now. We'll update you again tomorrow. Bye-bye.
