Hello there. The weather has been turning more unsettled | 0:00:03 | 0:00:05
over the past few days, bring many of us some much-needed rainfall. | 0:00:05 | 0:00:08
It was a mixed picture on Thursday, certainly. For some parts | 0:00:08 | 0:00:11
we had some glorious sunshine, a bit of cumulus cloud around too, | 0:00:11 | 0:00:14
here was the scene in Derbyshire during Thursday afternoon. | 0:00:14 | 0:00:17
Those cumulus clouds were bigger elsewhere and we did | 0:00:17 | 0:00:20
see some heavy showers and some thunderstorms. | 0:00:20 | 0:00:22
In Highland Scotland, for instance, also across parts of | 0:00:22 | 0:00:25
Northern Ireland. But in the South East, this is the scene in | 0:00:25 | 0:00:27
Pevensey Bay, East Sussex, we had more cloud, | 0:00:27 | 0:00:30
more persistent rain that was rolling in during the | 0:00:30 | 0:00:32
course of Thursday afternoon into the evening. | 0:00:32 | 0:00:35
Now, overnight into Friday, that low pressure is moving its way | 0:00:35 | 0:00:38
northwards up the east coast, so we're going to be seeing | 0:00:38 | 0:00:41
outbreaks of rain continuing across parts of eastern England. | 0:00:41 | 0:00:43
Elsewhere it is a quieter picture, so to start Friday, | 0:00:43 | 0:00:46
some sunshine for much of Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales | 0:00:46 | 0:00:49
and western parts of England. After a fresh start there will be | 0:00:49 | 0:00:52
some showers cropping up here. Now, further east across England, | 0:00:52 | 0:00:55
low pressure moves its way north, so some patchy rain up the | 0:00:55 | 0:00:58
east coast towards southeastern parts of Scotland too. | 0:00:58 | 0:01:00
Quite cool, only 11 or 12 around those east coasts. | 0:01:00 | 0:01:04
Further west, temperatures around 16 degrees or so. | 0:01:04 | 0:01:07
So, low pressure not far away, then, as we start the weekend, | 0:01:07 | 0:01:10
Friday night into Saturday we've still got some weather fronts | 0:01:10 | 0:01:13
pretty close to the north-east of Scotland and one | 0:01:13 | 0:01:15
moving into Western Scotland too. So a bit unsettled still across | 0:01:15 | 0:01:18
northern parts, with some rain, particularly lingering | 0:01:18 | 0:01:21
across the Northern Isles of Scotland for a time | 0:01:21 | 0:01:23
on Saturday. Elsewhere across the country, it's a return to | 0:01:23 | 0:01:26
sunshine and some scattered showers around too. | 0:01:26 | 0:01:29
Some of those showers could be heavy, potentially some thunder | 0:01:29 | 0:01:32
mixed in too but they're relatively hit and miss, | 0:01:32 | 0:01:34
so 18 degrees in the sunshine will feel pleasant in between | 0:01:34 | 0:01:37
any of those showers. But I think have that brolly on standby | 0:01:37 | 0:01:40
for Saturday. Into Sunday, higher pressure moves in | 0:01:40 | 0:01:43
from the south, so low pressure moving away | 0:01:43 | 0:01:46
and that means during Sunday most of those showers get squeezed away. | 0:01:46 | 0:01:49
Still a chance of the odd shower on Sunday, particularly across | 0:01:49 | 0:01:52
western parts of the country but I think it, on reflection, | 0:01:52 | 0:01:55
is going to be the better day of the weekend. | 0:01:55 | 0:01:57
So, lots of places dry and temperatures round about | 0:01:57 | 0:02:00
20 degrees or so. Still some slightly fresher air | 0:02:00 | 0:02:02
holding on in the north but that fresher air gets squeezed away | 0:02:02 | 0:02:05
late on Sunday and then as we head through into Monday. | 0:02:05 | 0:02:08
So, for the new working week, we'll start to import some | 0:02:08 | 0:02:11
slightly warmer air coming in from the south or the south-west | 0:02:11 | 0:02:13
and that means temperatures will be on the rise on Monday. | 0:02:13 | 0:02:17
Still a chance of getting some rain across north-western parts | 0:02:17 | 0:02:20
of the country during Monday. For central and southeastern areas, | 0:02:20 | 0:02:23
though, it's drier, it's brighter and we're likely to see | 0:02:23 | 0:02:25
those temperatures back at around about 23 degrees. | 0:02:25 | 0:02:29
Then as we head through into Tuesday, on towards the | 0:02:29 | 0:02:31
middle part of the week, low pressure tending to | 0:02:31 | 0:02:34
push away from the north-east of the UK, | 0:02:34 | 0:02:36
higher pressure building in from the south-west. | 0:02:36 | 0:02:39
So that's the scenario through the middle part of the week. | 0:02:39 | 0:02:43
Most of those showers easing away as low pressure | 0:02:43 | 0:02:45
starts to clear off towards the north-east. | 0:02:45 | 0:02:47
Higher pressure moving in from the south-west, | 0:02:47 | 0:02:49
so I think through the middle part of next week, | 0:02:49 | 0:02:51
we should see a bit of a quieter spell of weather, | 0:02:51 | 0:02:54
with high pressure starting to move in and take charge. | 0:02:54 | 0:02:57
Some uncertainty, though, later next week about how long | 0:02:57 | 0:03:00
this area of high pressure is going to be sticking around. | 0:03:00 | 0:03:02
Low pressure once again waiting out in the wings in the Atlantic. | 0:03:02 | 0:03:06
So that high pressure potentially not lasting all that long. | 0:03:06 | 0:03:09
Later next week and into next weekend - | 0:03:09 | 0:03:12
high pressure likely to move away, so once again we'll see | 0:03:12 | 0:03:15
a turn to more unsettled conditions. There will be some | 0:03:15 | 0:03:18
wind and some rain likely at times, equally a bit of sunshine | 0:03:18 | 0:03:21
and temperatures generally near average, although they | 0:03:21 | 0:03:24
could be chilly at times overnight, particularly in the middle part | 0:03:24 | 0:03:27
this week. That's all for now, bye-bye. | 0:03:27 | 0:03:29
The race is on to complete London's most ambitious railway. | 0:03:32 | 0:03:35
I don't think we've seen anything to this scale and complexity before. | 0:03:35 | 0:03:38
But with so much left to be done... | 0:03:38 | 0:03:39
It gets the nerves going, the adrenaline pumping. | 0:03:39 | 0:03:42
..will they finish in time? | 0:03:42 | 0:03:43 |
