23/05/2017 Weather for the Week Ahead

Hello. The details look a little more uncertain, typically,

as we head towards the holiday weekend and beyond.

But there is a trend that we can follow.

Before then, things are more clear-cut.

Instead of low pressure,

and lots of rain like we had last week,

it is high pressure and little or no rain this week.

The position of the high will be crucial.

It will tend to drift away towards the east

allowing us to draw in

some really warm air and sunshine from the near continent

later on in the week.

But a bit of a change in the weather across the south-west of the UK

perhaps towards the south coast and the south-east of England as well.

More cloud around here on Tuesday.

Temperatures not quite so high.

A bit misty over the hills as well.

Cloud coming and going elsewhere but a decent amount of sunshine,

a warm day as well.

But for one of two showers in the north-west,

it should be fine and dry.

As we head into the evening and overnight,

some late sunshine to enjoy

and then overnight we see more low cloud coming in on

a gentle westerly breeze.

Perhaps a little light rain or drizzle coming into the north

and north-west of Scotland. But quite a warm night ahead.

Temperatures staying in double figures,

perhaps no lower than 14 or 15 degrees.

Two things happening midweek.

We've got a high-pressure moving in across the UK, but where it

has come from means that it is dragging up some cloud as it

approaches from the south-west.

That cloud particularly affecting more western parts of the UK

and still a little rain or drizzle in the north-west of Scotland.

Otherwise it is dry and with the high-pressure continuing to

build across the UK, that helps to break up the cloud as we head

later on in the day on Wednesday.

So some sunshine breaking through,

but cloudy for a while.

Warm once again in that sunshine.

And on Thursday,

the high-pressure still right over the UK,

little or no wind around at all and that cloud continuing to

break up and temperatures continuing to rise.

So 25, 26 degrees in the south-east.

So that is a trend that we're seeing towards the end of the week.

High-pressure, no rain,

more sunshine and those temperatures lifting once again.

Very warm if not hot out there by the end of the week.

There's the high-pressure there, it is drifting, the centre of it,

towards the east of the UK allowing us to draw in a bit more breeze on

Friday and drawing in more sunshine,

drier area from the near continent.

So sunnier skies across the UK,

cloud breaking up in eastern areas and temperatures lifting.

23 degrees possible in Glasgow on Friday.

Then as we head into the start of the holiday weekend,

there is the high-pressure,

warm air coming up but a weather front is lurking there

out towards the west

and perhaps will signal a change in the days ahead.

The warmth really pushing in from the near continent and

those temperatures lifting ahead of that weather front.

30 degrees is quite possible in the south-east, primarily I think,

on Saturday.

So we start the holiday weekend with those very high temperatures

but out towards the west we have this weather front,

a ragged band of cloud,

showery bursts of rain

and the odd rumble of thunder as well.

Now, slowly that cloud and the rain, hit and miss,

will stagger its way eastwards in the outlook next week.

How quickly it moves its way eastwards is difficult to say.

It should be gone by the time we get to the middle part of the week

and behind that a change comes in.

We start to see more of a west to south-westerly breeze,

most places will be dry but it will be somewhat cooler and fresher,

temperatures back down to 18 degrees,

which is probably going to be a bit more comfortable for some of us.
