Hello there. We've still got some uncertainty in the outlook | 0:00:02 | 0:00:04
but in the run-up to the bank holiday weekend | 0:00:04 | 0:00:06
it's all about the heat building and temperatures rising. | 0:00:06 | 0:00:10
We're getting high pressure moving over the UK right now | 0:00:10 | 0:00:13
so it's keeping just about everywhere fine and dry. | 0:00:13 | 0:00:16
The centre of the high pressure will drift away towards the east | 0:00:16 | 0:00:19
into the near Continent, allowing us to pick up | 0:00:19 | 0:00:21
this continental air ahead of a weather front here, | 0:00:21 | 0:00:24
and it's that continental air that will bring more sunshine | 0:00:24 | 0:00:27
and higher temperatures by the end of the week. | 0:00:27 | 0:00:29
Mind you, it's going to be quite warm on Wednesday. | 0:00:29 | 0:00:31
Areas that start sunny will see some cloud developing, | 0:00:31 | 0:00:34
areas that start with cloud will see some sunshine developing. | 0:00:34 | 0:00:37
And but for one or two showers in Scotland in the afternoon, | 0:00:37 | 0:00:40
the afternoon should be fine and dry. | 0:00:40 | 0:00:41
And even though there will be quite a bit of cloud around, | 0:00:41 | 0:00:44
it's quite warm air, so temperatures widely into the low 20s, | 0:00:44 | 0:00:48
perhaps a few degrees higher than that towards the south-east. | 0:00:48 | 0:00:51
That cloud continues to break up, though, as we head into the evening. | 0:00:51 | 0:00:55
Clear skies developing fairly widely overnight, | 0:00:55 | 0:00:57
more cloud towards the north-west of Scotland, | 0:00:57 | 0:00:59
and maybe some misty patches of low cloud | 0:00:59 | 0:01:01
across central parts of England. | 0:01:01 | 0:01:03
But quite a warm night after the warmth of the day - | 0:01:03 | 0:01:06
16, 17 degrees Cardiff and London overnight. | 0:01:06 | 0:01:10
So there's our area of high pressure, | 0:01:10 | 0:01:12
right over the UK on Thursday, | 0:01:12 | 0:01:14
beginning to drift away towards the east, | 0:01:14 | 0:01:17
but keeping it fine and dry. | 0:01:17 | 0:01:18
So the story, really, for Thursday is more sunshine. | 0:01:18 | 0:01:22
The air continuing to descend, breaking up the cloud. | 0:01:22 | 0:01:25
We won't see much development of cloud through the day. | 0:01:25 | 0:01:28
Some patches of cloud developing, but not as much. | 0:01:28 | 0:01:31
So some spells of sunshine, not much of a breeze at all, | 0:01:31 | 0:01:34
and temperatures getting up to 23 degrees in Glasgow, | 0:01:34 | 0:01:37
25, 26, possibly higher than that in the south-east of England. | 0:01:37 | 0:01:40
And then on Friday, that warmth continues to push its way northwards | 0:01:40 | 0:01:44
into Northern Ireland, up into Scotland as well. | 0:01:44 | 0:01:47
Widely temperatures into the mid-teens. | 0:01:47 | 0:01:49
The wind starts to pick up through the Channel | 0:01:49 | 0:01:52
and across Northern Ireland as well. That's because the high's centre | 0:01:52 | 0:01:55
is getting pulled away to the near Continent. | 0:01:55 | 0:01:57
And approaching from the west, we've got these weather fronts | 0:01:57 | 0:02:00
and an area of low pressure on that weather front as well, | 0:02:00 | 0:02:03
so perhaps starting to see some changes into Northern Ireland, | 0:02:03 | 0:02:06
Wales and the south-west. A threat of some thundery showers. | 0:02:06 | 0:02:09
But ahead of it, this warm and quite muggy air | 0:02:09 | 0:02:12
with temperatures not far away from 30 degrees once again. | 0:02:12 | 0:02:16
Over the course of Saturday night and into Sunday, | 0:02:16 | 0:02:20
that low pressure takes the heavy rain up towards Scotland, | 0:02:20 | 0:02:24
clears through England and Wales | 0:02:24 | 0:02:26
and we're left with some sunshine around | 0:02:26 | 0:02:29
but also some showers too. | 0:02:29 | 0:02:31
Slightly fresher air in the west, | 0:02:31 | 0:02:33
but still some warmth across the eastern side of England. | 0:02:33 | 0:02:36
So far, so good. | 0:02:36 | 0:02:38
Things then start to get complicated, | 0:02:38 | 0:02:40
because some computer models | 0:02:40 | 0:02:42
want to draw in these showers that are not far away from the UK, | 0:02:42 | 0:02:46
push them northwards together with some warm air, | 0:02:46 | 0:02:49
and the potential for some thunderstorms. | 0:02:49 | 0:02:51
Other computer models push those showers away more quickly | 0:02:51 | 0:02:55
and build this area of high pressure in from the Atlantic. | 0:02:55 | 0:02:58
That will tend to move in across the UK. | 0:02:58 | 0:03:01
We've got weather systems, | 0:03:01 | 0:03:03
an area of low pressure brushing the north-west | 0:03:03 | 0:03:05
as we head further into next week, | 0:03:05 | 0:03:07
but for the most part, it looks like it should be turning drier | 0:03:07 | 0:03:11
after the potential for some heavy and thundery showers. | 0:03:11 | 0:03:14
It'll also turn a bit cooler and fresher, | 0:03:14 | 0:03:17
but the question is, and the uncertainty is, | 0:03:17 | 0:03:19
how quickly is all this change going to come about? | 0:03:19 | 0:03:22
At the moment, computer models don't particularly agree. | 0:03:22 | 0:03:25
We're hoping for some sort of consensus over the next few days. | 0:03:25 | 0:03:29 |
