25/05/2017 Weather for the Week Ahead

Temperatures will continue to climb over the next few days,

probably peaking in Scotland on Friday

and across eastern England on Saturday.

But we had 26 degrees on Wednesday

and on Thursday, it's likely to be warmer as well.

Just a little fair weather cloud,

any foggy weather around the Irish Sea

tending to lift. It will keep some cloud

across the northern isles of Scotland,

but, on the whole, blue skies,

lots of sunshine around

and temperatures will be higher as well

so widely into the mid-20s

and we could peak at 27 or 28 or so

in the afternoon.

And a fine end to the day, of course,

with some late sunshine.

Those temperatures won't fall

a great deal overnight,

despite the fact we've got clear skies.

There probably won't be as much fog

sitting through the Irish Sea

and we'll lose some of that cloud

in the far north of Scotland.

Temperatures overnight perhaps no lower

than 15 or 16 in some towns and cities.

The high pressure is still across the UK

as we head into Friday.

The centre is a little further east.

It's allowing us to draw up our winds

from the near continent

so there will be a fresher breeze,

perhaps, on Friday,

but we're drawing up some warm air

and drier air so again lots of sunshine,

another very warm

and mostly sunny day as well

and that warmth is getting pushed northwards

further into Scotland

so 29 degrees is possible

around the Moray Firth on Friday,

widely inland across the rest of the UK,

mid- to perhaps high 20s.

As we head into the bank holiday weekend,

we've got this rather hot and humid start

and then there's the chance of this thundery breakdown happening

before eventually cooler, fresher conditions

follow in from the west.

So, we've got the winds coming in

from the near continent.

That's ahead of this weather system here,

which is going to bring us this thundery breakdown

and it may well bring some thundery downpours

into England and Wales.

The wettest weather, though,

the more persistent heavier rain

pushing northwards, perhaps,

into Scotland and Northern Ireland.

So, a change here,

temperatures will be lower,

but ahead of these showers

across the south-east, eastern England,

temperatures won't be far away from 30 degrees

and then that weather front moves through.

It takes away those heavier downpours

and introduces some slightly fresher air,

but that weather front never too far away

from the English Channel,

whilst most places will start dry

with some sunshine,

we could import some more showers,

heavy thundery showers back up from the south

into more southern and eastern parts of England,

especially later on in the day,

and the wettest weather will come later on Sunday,

Sunday night, probably into the early hours

of Monday morning across England and Wales

on that weather front there

so we could start off rather wet,

especially for central and eastern England,

before things tend to dry off slowly.

Still one or two showers,

but also some sunshine

and it won't be quite as warm.

Now, the problem is from Monday into Tuesday,

we still have this potential

for some warmer, more humid air

bringing some showers up from the south.

But then that should pull away

and we're looking out to the west

to see our weather coming in.

Areas of low pressure

approaching the north-west

so more unsettled conditions here.

The high pressure doesn't look quite so dominant now

and it's mainly going to be affecting

more southern parts of the UK

so as you head further north and west,

next week will turn more unsettled.

There'll be some showers, longer spells of rain,

quite windy, too.

There still could be some showers

more towards the south,

but for the most part here,

it should be somewhat drier

and there'll be some sunshine,

but it won't be quite as hot

as the next few days.
