Hello. While some people will be enjoying the cooler, fresher feel to | 0:00:01 | 0:00:05
our weather, others will surely be asking, will the heat return? | 0:00:05 | 0:00:09
In our forecast for the week ahead, it looks like it won't return | 0:00:09 | 0:00:12
on anything like the scale we had on Wednesday. | 0:00:12 | 0:00:15
Temperatures well up into the 20s, | 0:00:15 | 0:00:17
even into the mid-30s across parts of the south. | 0:00:17 | 0:00:20
Fast forward to Thursday, | 0:00:20 | 0:00:21
a westerly wind brought fresher air across the country and we | 0:00:21 | 0:00:24
shaved a good 10 degrees | 0:00:24 | 0:00:26
of those temperatures in places. | 0:00:26 | 0:00:28
As the change took place, | 0:00:28 | 0:00:29
a few of us had thunderstorms, | 0:00:29 | 0:00:31
many more had quite a quiet day on Thursday but with some extra cloud, | 0:00:31 | 0:00:34
with limited sunshine | 0:00:34 | 0:00:36
and certainly a fresher feel. | 0:00:36 | 0:00:39
That is the way the weather will be through the next few days. | 0:00:39 | 0:00:42
Fresher, quite breezy, some rain at times but not all the time. | 0:00:42 | 0:00:45
There will be some spells of sunshine as well. | 0:00:45 | 0:00:47
The fresher air will be coming from the west, from the Atlantic. | 0:00:47 | 0:00:51
Also coming from the Atlantic, | 0:00:51 | 0:00:52
an area of low pressure which will be bringing | 0:00:52 | 0:00:54
a frontal system southwards and eastwards during the day on Friday. | 0:00:54 | 0:00:58
The front won't be moving very quickly at all. | 0:00:58 | 0:01:00
In fact, it will get rather stuck across parts of northern England, | 0:01:00 | 0:01:03
Wales and the Midlands. | 0:01:03 | 0:01:05
Any heavier bursts of rain really confined to the hills in the west. | 0:01:05 | 0:01:08
Drying up as the day goes on for Scotland and Northern Ireland. | 0:01:08 | 0:01:11
Staying dry all day for many | 0:01:11 | 0:01:12
southern and eastern areas of England. | 0:01:12 | 0:01:14
Temperatures around 16 to 24 degrees. | 0:01:14 | 0:01:18
Our front continues to journey very slowly south-eastwards | 0:01:18 | 0:01:21
during Friday night and for Saturday morning, it is likely | 0:01:21 | 0:01:24
to be sitting across parts of East Anglia and the south-east. | 0:01:24 | 0:01:27
It will take time to clear away, so a grey and quite damp | 0:01:27 | 0:01:29
start to the weekend here. | 0:01:29 | 0:01:31
But as the front clears, things will brighten up a little bit, | 0:01:31 | 0:01:34
some spells of sunshine, often a fair amount of cloud. | 0:01:34 | 0:01:36
A scattering of showers as well on what will be a breezy day. | 0:01:36 | 0:01:39
In fact, quite windy towards the north of Scotland | 0:01:39 | 0:01:41
where there could be gales at times. | 0:01:41 | 0:01:43
And certainly a cool feel to the weather and that cool feel | 0:01:43 | 0:01:46
will continue on into Sunday. | 0:01:46 | 0:01:48
As well, north-westerly winds across the country. | 0:01:48 | 0:01:50
A lot of dry weather at this stage, | 0:01:50 | 0:01:52
just a few showers up towards the north-east. | 0:01:52 | 0:01:55
Now, as we had through Sunday night and into Monday, | 0:01:55 | 0:01:58
this is where some heat could return. | 0:01:58 | 0:02:01
Certainly the chance of some humid air to push in from the south | 0:02:01 | 0:02:04
behind this warm front. Also notice across Iberia, some thunderstorms. | 0:02:04 | 0:02:08
They may come into play in just a moment. | 0:02:08 | 0:02:12
But Monday itself, looks likely to bring a band of rain in from | 0:02:12 | 0:02:15
the west as our area of low pressure wobbles its way in. | 0:02:15 | 0:02:18
A lot of uncertainty about the timing and ahead of it, | 0:02:18 | 0:02:20
that's where we could pull in the warm and humid air. | 0:02:20 | 0:02:23
During Monday night, into Tuesday, don't take this too literally, | 0:02:23 | 0:02:26
but this is where we could see some of those thunderstorms creeping in | 0:02:26 | 0:02:30
across parts of the country. | 0:02:30 | 0:02:31
But no sooner has the humid air arrived, | 0:02:31 | 0:02:34
it is going to be swept away again from the west. | 0:02:34 | 0:02:37
That fresher air does look very likely to return as we get | 0:02:37 | 0:02:41
deeper into next week. | 0:02:41 | 0:02:43
That brief flirtation with something more humid, | 0:02:43 | 0:02:47
will come about because of this dip in the jet stream. | 0:02:47 | 0:02:50
On the southern and eastern side of the jet stream, | 0:02:50 | 0:02:52
we are able to tap in to the warm and humid air | 0:02:52 | 0:02:55
across the near continent. | 0:02:55 | 0:02:56
But as we get deeper into the week, | 0:02:56 | 0:02:58
the jet stream breaks through from the west. | 0:02:58 | 0:03:00
We are on the cool side of the jet, we're into the fresher air and | 0:03:00 | 0:03:03
not only will we be in the fresher air, the jet stream could well | 0:03:03 | 0:03:07
spin up areas of low pressure at times | 0:03:07 | 0:03:10
and move them across the country. | 0:03:10 | 0:03:13
So generally speaking, after what could be | 0:03:13 | 0:03:15
a brief flirtation with something warm at the beginning of the week, | 0:03:15 | 0:03:17
as we get towards the end of the week, | 0:03:17 | 0:03:19
we'll get back to that fresher feel. | 0:03:19 | 0:03:20
Some rain at times, some sunshine as well, | 0:03:20 | 0:03:23
often breezy and that sort of whether will take us right through | 0:03:23 | 0:03:26
the end of June and into the start of July. | 0:03:26 | 0:03:29 |
