Hello there. Our weather has gone back

0:00:020:00:03

to something you might call normal

0:00:030:00:06

as we head towards the weekend, certainly compared

0:00:060:00:08

with the exceptional weather we had earlier this week.

0:00:080:00:12

Exceptional heat,

0:00:120:00:13

where some spots got very close to 35 degrees Celsius.

0:00:130:00:16

For the weekend, 20 will be more typical.

0:00:160:00:19

Some places will be even cooler than that

0:00:190:00:21

and it's quite a mixed weather story, really.

0:00:210:00:23

Some sunshine, some showers, it will be breezy and fairly cool,

0:00:230:00:27

certainly compared with what we've had recently.

0:00:270:00:29

Now, an area of low pressure

0:00:290:00:30

is moving across the north

0:00:300:00:32

of the British Isles at the moment.

0:00:320:00:33

Actually quite a deep low.

0:00:330:00:34

You can see tightly squeezed isobars

0:00:340:00:36

and that's going to make for a windy Saturday

0:00:360:00:38

across parts of Scotland.

0:00:380:00:40

Also a weather front dragging its heels

0:00:400:00:42

across England and Wales

0:00:420:00:43

so here through Saturday,

0:00:430:00:45

fairly large areas of cloud.

0:00:450:00:46

Some outbreaks of patchy rain at times,

0:00:460:00:48

should brighten up a bit towards the south-east.

0:00:480:00:50

For Northern Ireland and Scotland,

0:00:500:00:52

we'll see some sunny spells,

0:00:520:00:53

a few showers,

0:00:530:00:54

but very windy across Scotland.

0:00:540:00:55

We could see gales in places

0:00:550:00:57

and it is going to be a cool day.

0:00:570:00:59

14 to 18 degrees in the west,

0:00:590:01:01

maybe 22 or 23 in the south-east.

0:01:010:01:03

Now, during Saturday night,

0:01:030:01:05

the weather front that will have been

0:01:050:01:07

plaguing the south with a lot of cloud,

0:01:070:01:08

that will clear away

0:01:080:01:09

and our area of low pressure to the north

0:01:090:01:11

will slide its way eastwards

0:01:110:01:12

so Sunday should bring

0:01:120:01:13

slightly lighter winds across Scotland.

0:01:130:01:15

Still quite blustery here.

0:01:150:01:17

A mixture of sunshine and showers for most,

0:01:170:01:19

although it will be fairly cloudy again

0:01:190:01:21

across some southern areas

0:01:210:01:22

and those temperatures,

0:01:220:01:23

you'll be lucky to get to 20.

0:01:230:01:24

16 in Glasgow,

0:01:240:01:26

maybe 23 across parts of the south-east.

0:01:260:01:29

Now, some humid air may return for a brief time

0:01:290:01:32

as we head into the start of next week.

0:01:320:01:34

It's been pulled up from the south

0:01:340:01:36

by this warm front

0:01:360:01:37

ahead of an area of low pressure so for Monday,

0:01:370:01:40

there's going to be a lot of dry weather

0:01:400:01:41

around in many areas,

0:01:410:01:42

but we're likely to see some outbreaks of rain

0:01:420:01:45

pushing in from the west.

0:01:450:01:46

There's a bit of uncertainty

0:01:460:01:47

about exactly where the wettest of this weather will be.

0:01:470:01:50

Certainly a fresh feel up to the north-west,

0:01:500:01:52

but something a bit more humid down to the south

0:01:520:01:54

and during Monday night into Tuesday,

0:01:540:01:56

there is a chance we could see

0:01:560:01:58

some really heavy thundery downpours

0:01:580:02:00

pushing up from the south,

0:02:000:02:02

brought in by that humid air,

0:02:020:02:04

but it won't be around for long

0:02:040:02:05

because, as those heavy downpours

0:02:050:02:07

clear away to the east on Tuesday,

0:02:070:02:09

we'll start to bring fresher air

0:02:090:02:10

back in from the Atlantic.

0:02:100:02:12

Now, that brief flirtation with some humid air

0:02:120:02:14

comes because of this dip in the jet stream.

0:02:140:02:16

We briefly get onto the southern

0:02:160:02:18

and eastern side of the jet,

0:02:180:02:19

where the humid air lurks.

0:02:190:02:21

But as the jet stream breaks back through again

0:02:210:02:24

and moves straight across the Atlantic

0:02:240:02:26

through the middle part of the week,

0:02:260:02:27

we'll be on the northern side of the jet.

0:02:270:02:29

That's where the cool air sits

0:02:290:02:30

and we will be in that cool air

0:02:300:02:31

for the middle of the week.

0:02:310:02:32

The jet stream also spinning up areas of low pressure,

0:02:320:02:35

which will keep things

0:02:350:02:36

quite unsettled through Wednesday

0:02:360:02:38

and, indeed, on into Thursday.

0:02:380:02:40

So for the middle part of the week, then,

0:02:400:02:42

our jet stream will be working

0:02:420:02:43

straight across the Atlantic,

0:02:430:02:45

keeping us in the cool air

0:02:450:02:47

and bringing us further areas

0:02:470:02:48

of low pressure, but there is just a hint

0:02:480:02:51

in some forecast weather models

0:02:510:02:53

that by the end of the week,

0:02:530:02:55

the jet stream might take on

0:02:550:02:57

more of a bendy appearance

0:02:570:02:58

and, yes, that will initially

0:02:580:03:00

keep us in the cool air,

0:03:000:03:01

but will bring some warmer air

0:03:010:03:03

slightly closer to southern areas

0:03:030:03:05

and with it, potentially a build in pressure,

0:03:050:03:08

high pressure trying to edge its way in

0:03:080:03:10

towards the south.

0:03:100:03:12

It's going to be a slow old process, though.

0:03:120:03:13

Essentially for the start of July,

0:03:130:03:15

it is going to remain quite cool.

0:03:150:03:18

There'll be some rain at times,

0:03:180:03:19

but some sunshine, too,

0:03:190:03:21

but just hints that we might see

0:03:210:03:22

something more settled and perhaps warmer

0:03:220:03:25

a little bit deeper into the month.

0:03:250:03:26

But for the time being,

0:03:260:03:28

we're back to normal.
