Hello. This time last week, we were talking about record-breaking

0:00:030:00:06

temperatures possibly across the UK.

0:00:060:00:08

And, in fact, we saw the hottest day since 1976 -

0:00:080:00:12

the middle of last week we had 35 Celsius.

0:00:120:00:15

This week, temperatures will be down considerably. A

0:00:150:00:18

maximum high expected this week of around 25 Celsius

0:00:180:00:22

and, guess what, we have had it already on Monday.

0:00:220:00:25

In fact, the rest of the week looks pretty changeable.

0:00:250:00:27

Some spells of heavy rain moving in.

0:00:270:00:29

It will be quite breezy if not windy at times

0:00:290:00:32

and it will feel noticeably fresher.

0:00:320:00:34

The first culprit - an area of low pressure

0:00:340:00:37

moving in as we speak, will gradually move its way

0:00:370:00:39

steadily north and east across Scotland through the early morning.

0:00:390:00:43

In fact, it could bring some pretty heavy rain through the central belt

0:00:430:00:46

during the early morning rush-hour.

0:00:460:00:48

Behind, some sharp, heavy, thundery downpours into Northern Ireland

0:00:480:00:52

and a plume of thundery downpours into the south-east.

0:00:520:00:54

It will be quite humid, I suspect, here through the course of Tuesday.

0:00:540:00:58

22 degrees the high, but already something that little bit fresher,

0:00:580:01:01

11 to 17 degrees likely further north.

0:01:010:01:05

As we move out of Tuesday into Wednesday, we see a rash of showers.

0:01:050:01:08

Plenty of water to keep the gardeners and growers happy

0:01:080:01:12

or breathe a sigh of relief at least.

0:01:120:01:14

As we see rain pushing across England, Wales and into

0:01:140:01:17

Northern Ireland.

0:01:170:01:18

It stays predominantly dry during the night-time period into

0:01:180:01:22

the far north of Scotland.

0:01:220:01:24

So we start off on Wednesday then again

0:01:240:01:26

with a pretty unsettled picture as low pressure sits close to the UK

0:01:260:01:30

in the North Sea and it will continue to push this rain across

0:01:300:01:33

England and Wales in particular.

0:01:330:01:35

That is where the heaviest of the rain is likely to be.

0:01:350:01:37

Maybe fringing Northern Ireland.

0:01:370:01:39

Scotland seeing the best of the dry weather, but the winds starting

0:01:390:01:42

to swing round to a north-easterly.

0:01:420:01:44

Fresher here - 12,13 degrees on the east coast,

0:01:440:01:46

highest values of 20 in the south-east corner.

0:01:460:01:50

As we move through Wednesday towards Thursday,

0:01:500:01:53

the low pressure sits in the North Sea still influencing the story.

0:01:530:01:56

This weather front is going to be with us for quite some time.

0:01:560:01:59

Again, the wind direction noticeable,

0:01:590:02:01

making it feel quite cooler coming from the north.

0:02:010:02:04

We'll see a band of cloud and rain through Scotland

0:02:040:02:06

and Northern Ireland.

0:02:060:02:07

To the south, some showers, some sunshine,

0:02:070:02:09

highs of 21 degrees.

0:02:090:02:10

But that whether front sinks its way south again and the wind

0:02:100:02:14

direction changes subtly,

0:02:140:02:15

but that could play its part during the day on Friday

0:02:150:02:18

as the rain continues to drift its way steadily south.

0:02:180:02:21

We could see temperatures start to climb in sheltered areas

0:02:210:02:26

of Scotland. Known as the fern effect.

0:02:260:02:28

If you want more details of that, you can find it on our website

0:02:280:02:30

but we could see 19 here and maybe 19 in the south-east corner.

0:02:300:02:33

But that front finally clears away Friday into Saturday.

0:02:330:02:37

We see more of north-westerly flow.

0:02:370:02:39

A brief ridge for a time before the next area of low pressure pushes in.

0:02:390:02:43

So you can get the general theme,

0:02:430:02:45

the pattern I'm afraid for the rest of this week.

0:02:450:02:48

Not a bad day, potentially, on Saturday.

0:02:480:02:50

Before more wet weather moves in from the west.

0:02:500:02:54

So, what is happening?

0:02:540:02:55

Well, the jet stream has taken quite a kink,

0:02:550:02:57

quite a dive to the south of the UK and that is allowing more of

0:02:570:03:01

a northerly flow - cooler, fresher feel across the UK and it is

0:03:010:03:05

also allowing for these low pressures

0:03:050:03:07

to move in from the Atlantic.

0:03:070:03:08

As we move towards the weekend, it evens out a little.

0:03:080:03:11

We see the lows of into the north and maybe a return to

0:03:110:03:13

something a little bit warmer, a little bit drier into the south.

0:03:130:03:17

But, for the longer-term period,

0:03:170:03:20

it does look likely to stay pretty changeable for the early half

0:03:200:03:23

of July with some rain at times and temperatures about average

0:03:230:03:27

for where they should be for this time of year.

0:03:270:03:29

More from me same time tomorrow.

0:03:290:03:31

Across the country, 11 million people

0:03:320:03:34

are living in private rentals.

0:03:340:03:36

He can just chuck me out any time.

0:03:360:03:38

But how would their landlords manage living as tenants?

0:03:380:03:42

It's helped me appreciate that decisions we make

0:03:420:03:45

impact people's lives.
