Hello, thanks for joining me. | 0:00:02 | 0:00:03
Time we updated you on how we feel the week is going to unfold, | 0:00:03 | 0:00:06
and then we'll just push it that little bit further into next week, | 0:00:06 | 0:00:09
just to see what's in store. | 0:00:09 | 0:00:12
Thursday had plenty of weather in store - | 0:00:12 | 0:00:14
32 degrees at Heathrow, | 0:00:14 | 0:00:16
nothing like it underneath the blanket of cloud | 0:00:16 | 0:00:19
further north, | 0:00:19 | 0:00:20
and in the midst of all of this, | 0:00:20 | 0:00:22
we had torrential downpours, | 0:00:22 | 0:00:23
initially across East Anglia, | 0:00:23 | 0:00:25
but, later in the day, | 0:00:25 | 0:00:26
they really began to brew up | 0:00:26 | 0:00:28
across the Pennines and across Yorkshire. | 0:00:28 | 0:00:30
Underneath those clear skies in the south, | 0:00:30 | 0:00:33
glorious fare, there, | 0:00:33 | 0:00:34
quite widely across the southern half | 0:00:34 | 0:00:35
of England and Wales. | 0:00:35 | 0:00:36
Closer to the weather front | 0:00:36 | 0:00:38
and that 14 degrees across the north-west, | 0:00:38 | 0:00:40
well, the cloud was pretty leaden | 0:00:40 | 0:00:42
and there was rain at times - | 0:00:42 | 0:00:43
and we're not quite done | 0:00:43 | 0:00:45
with that sort of scenario just yet, | 0:00:45 | 0:00:46
because a new day brings a new weather front | 0:00:46 | 0:00:49
in from the Atlantic, | 0:00:49 | 0:00:50
pushing the prospect of cloud | 0:00:50 | 0:00:52
and the odd bit and piece of rain | 0:00:52 | 0:00:53
across Scotland, | 0:00:53 | 0:00:55
having perhaps affected Northern Ireland overnight. | 0:00:55 | 0:00:57
Get on through Friday and the cloud, | 0:00:57 | 0:00:59
from a weakening weather front, | 0:00:59 | 0:01:00
just pushes its way | 0:01:00 | 0:01:01
into the heart of the British Isles - | 0:01:01 | 0:01:03
but it doesn't stop the temperatures | 0:01:03 | 0:01:05
again pushing towards 27, 28, | 0:01:05 | 0:01:06
at least in the south. | 0:01:06 | 0:01:07
A cooler day underneath that blanket of cloud | 0:01:07 | 0:01:09
across the north of England | 0:01:09 | 0:01:11
than was the case on Thursday, | 0:01:11 | 0:01:12
and that blanket of cloud | 0:01:12 | 0:01:14
really begins to thicken up | 0:01:14 | 0:01:15
as we get through Friday night into Saturday. | 0:01:15 | 0:01:18
This is disappointing fare for July, | 0:01:18 | 0:01:21
no doubt about it. | 0:01:21 | 0:01:22
A dank start to the day, | 0:01:22 | 0:01:23
perhaps the rain just beginning to ease a touch | 0:01:23 | 0:01:26
on into the afternoon, | 0:01:26 | 0:01:27
but signs of another weather front | 0:01:27 | 0:01:29
just beginning to push its way | 0:01:29 | 0:01:31
towards the north-western quarter of Scotland. | 0:01:31 | 0:01:34
So, Saturday into Sunday, | 0:01:34 | 0:01:35
and we're caught betwixt and between. | 0:01:35 | 0:01:37
Quite a vigorous area of low pressure | 0:01:37 | 0:01:39
throwing the prospect of thunderstorms | 0:01:39 | 0:01:41
across a good part of France, | 0:01:41 | 0:01:43
maybe into the Channel area. | 0:01:43 | 0:01:44
One or two showers just breaking out | 0:01:44 | 0:01:46
a little bit further north than that, | 0:01:46 | 0:01:48
and all the while, that weather front trying to come in | 0:01:48 | 0:01:50
towards the north-west of Scotland - | 0:01:50 | 0:01:52
but there will be a zone through Northern Ireland, | 0:01:52 | 0:01:54
the south of Scotland and northern England | 0:01:54 | 0:01:56
where we will see somewhat drier conditions. | 0:01:56 | 0:01:58
That area of low pressure | 0:01:58 | 0:01:59
thankfully takes much of its activity | 0:01:59 | 0:02:02
up through the North Sea | 0:02:02 | 0:02:03
during the course of Monday, | 0:02:03 | 0:02:04
but there's no getting away from the fact | 0:02:04 | 0:02:06
that the cloud will be thick enough | 0:02:06 | 0:02:08
for there to be the odd showery burst, | 0:02:08 | 0:02:09
on what will be a cooler feel to the week, | 0:02:09 | 0:02:12
given that the breezes | 0:02:12 | 0:02:13
will be coming in from the north and north-west. | 0:02:13 | 0:02:15
Initially, the wind quite a factor on the east coast, | 0:02:15 | 0:02:17
but as we move out of Monday into Tuesday, | 0:02:17 | 0:02:20
so this area of high pressure | 0:02:20 | 0:02:21
just topples its way across the British Isles - | 0:02:21 | 0:02:24
but out in the Atlantic, | 0:02:24 | 0:02:25
we see the first signs of a battle | 0:02:25 | 0:02:27
between low pressure to the north, | 0:02:27 | 0:02:29
high pressure to the south. | 0:02:29 | 0:02:31
Tuesday, it's the calm before the storm, | 0:02:31 | 0:02:34
because as we get towards | 0:02:34 | 0:02:35
the middle part of the week, | 0:02:35 | 0:02:37
the high pressure will have lost out, | 0:02:37 | 0:02:39
at least for a time. | 0:02:39 | 0:02:40
The low pressure, | 0:02:40 | 0:02:41
away towards the north-west of the British Isles, | 0:02:41 | 0:02:43
will be throwing weather fronts | 0:02:43 | 0:02:45
across all parts, pretty much. | 0:02:45 | 0:02:47
The lows certainly dominant | 0:02:47 | 0:02:48
in that middle part of the week. | 0:02:48 | 0:02:50
There will be rain for many. | 0:02:50 | 0:02:51
Disappointing, as I say. | 0:02:51 | 0:02:53
Cool and windy for all parts of the British Isles - | 0:02:53 | 0:02:56
but, as I say, it's a battle, | 0:02:56 | 0:02:58
and there have to be winners and losers, | 0:02:58 | 0:03:00
and, for a time, albeit briefly, | 0:03:00 | 0:03:02
later in the week, | 0:03:02 | 0:03:03
we will see that high pressure | 0:03:03 | 0:03:04
trying to nose its way back in, | 0:03:04 | 0:03:06
pushing the low pressure away from the British Isles | 0:03:06 | 0:03:09
and, in this scenario, | 0:03:09 | 0:03:10
albeit rather temporary, | 0:03:10 | 0:03:12
then the high will win out, | 0:03:12 | 0:03:14
at least for a time, later next week, | 0:03:14 | 0:03:17
so, we may well see | 0:03:17 | 0:03:18
somewhat drier and brighter conditions, | 0:03:18 | 0:03:20
and it may well feel, | 0:03:20 | 0:03:21
given the absence of the cloud | 0:03:21 | 0:03:22
and a wee bit more sunshine, | 0:03:22 | 0:03:24
just a little bit warmer - | 0:03:24 | 0:03:26
but I warn you, | 0:03:26 | 0:03:27
it will only be a temporary improvement. | 0:03:27 | 0:03:29 |
