24/07/2017 Weather for the Week Ahead

Summer is on hold, I think we will all agree with that.

The weekend was far from ideal.

In some cases, absolutely tipping it down. A bit of a wash-out.

Sunday, not a great day

across eastern Scotland.

Here is a picture from Fife.

But further south,

a nice picture coming in from Shropshire here.

So we did have some fine weather around.

It really wasn't pouring with rain everywhere.

You can see how very hit and miss the weather was on Sunday.

Rain in the north, rain and the south

and lots of showers in the centre of this low pressure.

Very changeable weekend. How is the week ahead looking?

Again it is going to be quite changeable

and we've got some wet weather on the way.

Wednesday is set to be the wettest day of the week.

By the end of Monday, we would have seen that low pressure that has been

drifting over us very slowly

finally pull away towards the east.

But still bringing some residual rain to these eastern counties

and a bit of wind coming in from the north as well.

Whereas the weather improving across many western parts of the UK

and that really sets the scene for Monday itself.

There is going to be a very big contrast between the weather

we're going to have in the east

and the weather we're going to have in the west.

On Monday, lots of sunshine across many western areas of the UK.

Really a beautiful day from Cornwall through Devon

and Wales into Scotland, eventually northern England too.

Very warm here, temperatures could get up to around 24 or 25.

Whereas further east from Hull into East Anglia

and down to the south-east, it is probably going to stay cloudy

with spots of rain on and off through the course of the day.

Later on Monday, Monday night and into Tuesday,

that low finally pushes out into the continent

and we've got this brief window of better weather before the next

weather systems start racing in off the Atlantic.

So overall, Tuesday is going to be the best

day of the week across the UK on the whole.

Tuesday night into Wednesday,

we start to see the jet stream intensifying across the Atlantic

and pushing these weather fronts in our direction.

Quite a nasty low heading our way for Wednesday.

So our gardens will get another good watering.

Look at all this rain piling in through Northern Ireland,

the west and eventually reaching eastern areas

later in the day on Wednesday.

So that is a middle of the week.

Wednesday night, that weather front pushes through

out into the North Sea and the continent.

Behind it, quite a few isobars there.

That means that the winds will pick up,

so I think on Thursday, quite a brisk day,

a really fresh day throughout the UK.

Windy across these coastal areas, particularly in the west,

but there will be a lot of bright weather.

So overall, actually, Wednesday not looking that bad at all.

Friday might be a fine day as well.

You can see behind me, that is the next weather system coming in.

That is the next spell of rain that is going to be sweeping

across the UK during the course of Friday and into the weekend.

So Saturday and Sunday,

we're going to see a big low pressure dominating

the weather across this portion of the Atlantic

and that basically means unsettled conditions heading our way.

So into next weekend,

most of us can expect some rainfall,

not necessarily all the time.

There's just a hint,

only a hint that the far south-east of the country,

so we're talking about central southern England,

maybe London possibly Essex, Suffolk,

those sort of areas could just about hang onto dry weather.

Then, the following week, guess what?

Summer is still on hold.

It is staying unsettled with low-pressure

and those blustery conditions.
