It's been quite a dramatic day on the weather front today.

0:00:020:00:05

Lots of contrasts in the weather

0:00:050:00:07

from some sunshine in the north of Scotland

0:00:070:00:09

to downpours across the south of the UK

0:00:090:00:12

and all brought by this area of low pressure

0:00:120:00:15

and actually brought some pretty exciting weather

0:00:150:00:17

just off the south coast of Sussex.

0:00:170:00:19

We had a report and then a picture sent in

0:00:190:00:22

of a marine equivalent

0:00:220:00:23

of a tornado,

0:00:230:00:24

otherwise known as a water spout,

0:00:240:00:26

and you can see it here.

0:00:260:00:27

If you squint, you can just about

0:00:270:00:29

make out the funnel, which reaches

0:00:290:00:31

right up into the cloud

0:00:310:00:32

and they're very narrow weather systems.

0:00:320:00:34

They're only maybe 10m across, winds of 70mph -

0:00:340:00:37

still pretty dramatic weather

0:00:370:00:39

and just shows how active the weather is

0:00:390:00:41

across the UK right now.

0:00:410:00:43

The low pressure that brought us the unsettled weather

0:00:430:00:45

during the course of Saturday

0:00:450:00:47

is still very much with us on Sunday.

0:00:470:00:48

It does mean, though,

0:00:480:00:50

that the morning is going to be sunny,

0:00:500:00:51

but with the low pressure over us,

0:00:510:00:53

the clouds will be growing through the morning

0:00:530:00:54

into the afternoon

0:00:540:00:56

and then we'll see more showers developing,

0:00:560:00:58

but I suspect across these more southern

0:00:580:01:00

and south-eastern areas of the UK as well as the Midlands,

0:01:000:01:02

it is going to be a slightly better day

0:01:020:01:04

compared to what we had on Saturday.

0:01:040:01:07

Then that takes us into the early hours of Monday.

0:01:070:01:10

The low pressure starts to pull away.

0:01:100:01:12

It's around about here,

0:01:120:01:13

around Belgium, Luxembourg.

0:01:130:01:15

We're on the edge of the area of low pressure

0:01:150:01:17

so that means that winds will be coming in

0:01:170:01:19

from the north across this part of the country here.

0:01:190:01:22

Still close by, the low,

0:01:220:01:24

so still driving the weather

0:01:240:01:25

anywhere from the north coast

0:01:250:01:26

of England through East Anglia,

0:01:260:01:28

down into the south-east.

0:01:280:01:29

So these areas on Monday

0:01:290:01:31

still cloudy at times with some rain,

0:01:310:01:33

whereas western areas,

0:01:330:01:34

the weather sort of opening up here.

0:01:340:01:36

We're getting more sunshine,

0:01:360:01:38

more dry weather,

0:01:380:01:39

but only a short window of opportunity

0:01:390:01:40

because the weather, the settled weather

0:01:400:01:42

isn't going to last for very long.

0:01:420:01:44

Very pleasant on Monday. Look at that,

0:01:440:01:46

temperatures of 23 degrees there in Glasgow,

0:01:460:01:48

but you can see that on Tuesday,

0:01:480:01:50

weather systems are already

0:01:500:01:51

starting to line-up in the Atlantic

0:01:510:01:53

so it does look as though Tuesday overall

0:01:530:01:55

across the UK is going to be

0:01:550:01:58

the best day of the week ahead

0:01:580:02:00

and then the weather fronts start marching in

0:02:000:02:03

so by the time we get to Wednesday,

0:02:030:02:04

they're right on top of us,

0:02:040:02:06

particularly across western areas of the UK here,

0:02:060:02:08

so that spells outbreaks of rain

0:02:080:02:10

and, in fact, it does look as though

0:02:100:02:12

next week is going to be changeable,

0:02:120:02:14

unsettled from day to day

0:02:140:02:15

so we have one weather front crossing the country

0:02:150:02:17

during the course of Wednesday,

0:02:170:02:19

moving through Wednesday night into Thursday,

0:02:190:02:21

then it looks as though

0:02:210:02:22

there'll be another gap in the weather

0:02:220:02:24

and we'll see a slightly better day on Thursday.

0:02:240:02:26

So, Thursday's weather forecast

0:02:260:02:28

is looking a little bit drier,

0:02:280:02:31

a little bit brighter,

0:02:310:02:32

particularly across these western areas of the UK,

0:02:320:02:34

temperatures around 18

0:02:340:02:35

to perhaps the low 20s there,

0:02:350:02:37

depending on how much sunshine we're going to get

0:02:370:02:39

and then towards the end of the week,

0:02:390:02:41

the jet stream starts to build.

0:02:410:02:43

It's right over us

0:02:430:02:44

so it's going to be sending

0:02:440:02:46

yet another weather system in our direction

0:02:460:02:47

so certainly by Friday,

0:02:470:02:49

it looks as though Friday and Saturday,

0:02:490:02:50

there will be low pressures coming in into the UK,

0:02:500:02:53

but high pressure tries to build,

0:02:530:02:54

this bump in the high pressure tries to build

0:02:540:02:56

into southern areas of the UK

0:02:560:02:58

so always a bit more settled across the south

0:02:580:03:01

so the most unsettled weather

0:03:010:03:02

with the most likely outcome of cloud and rain

0:03:020:03:05

is in the north-west,

0:03:050:03:07

whereas in the south,

0:03:070:03:08

perhaps broken cloud,

0:03:080:03:09

a little bit warmer with some sunshine.

0:03:090:03:12

So, really, the outlook here

0:03:120:03:13

is we're not expecting

0:03:130:03:15

any sustained period of warmth

0:03:150:03:17

or anything like that.

0:03:170:03:18

It is going to stay mostly unsettled,

0:03:180:03:20

mostly changeable

0:03:200:03:22

with temperatures a little below par for some of us

0:03:220:03:24

and even rather on the cool side.

0:03:240:03:27

That's it from me. Bye-bye.
