Hello there. Our weather is stuck in something of a rut at the moment. | 0:00:02 | 0:00:05
The winds are very light, | 0:00:05 | 0:00:06
there's nothing to push things along, | 0:00:06 | 0:00:08
nothing to change things very quickly, | 0:00:08 | 0:00:10
and a lot of that is down to the jet stream. | 0:00:10 | 0:00:13
Instead of steering weather systems | 0:00:13 | 0:00:15
across the Atlantic, towards our shores, | 0:00:15 | 0:00:17
the jet is diving down to the south. | 0:00:17 | 0:00:20
All the strength, all the energy | 0:00:20 | 0:00:21
in the jet is going down to the south, | 0:00:21 | 0:00:23
and that means areas of low pressure | 0:00:23 | 0:00:25
will spin around close to Iberia. | 0:00:25 | 0:00:27
What we're left with is a very | 0:00:27 | 0:00:28
weak pressure pattern, really - | 0:00:28 | 0:00:30
not many isobars, the winds will be light, | 0:00:30 | 0:00:31
low pressure vaguely in charge | 0:00:31 | 0:00:33
to the north-west, so that means here, | 0:00:33 | 0:00:35
we'll see some rain at times. | 0:00:35 | 0:00:36
Not all the time, and it will be fairly cool. | 0:00:36 | 0:00:38
High-pressure vaguely in charge | 0:00:38 | 0:00:40
down to the south-east, | 0:00:40 | 0:00:41
so that means it will be largely dry, | 0:00:41 | 0:00:44
pleasantly warm in any sunshine | 0:00:44 | 0:00:46
and I suspect some parts | 0:00:46 | 0:00:47
of the south-east may stay completely dry | 0:00:47 | 0:00:50
as we go on through the coming days. | 0:00:50 | 0:00:52
On Friday, there will be a fair amount | 0:00:52 | 0:00:53
of sunshine for East Anglia and the south-east. | 0:00:53 | 0:00:55
Bit more cloud for Wales | 0:00:55 | 0:00:56
and northern England, the odd shower, | 0:00:56 | 0:00:58
some showers for Northern Ireland. | 0:00:58 | 0:01:00
Again, some rain here on Friday | 0:01:00 | 0:01:02
and some of those showers into Scotland. | 0:01:02 | 0:01:04
Now, as we go on through Friday night, | 0:01:04 | 0:01:06
while showery rain continues | 0:01:06 | 0:01:07
across Northern Ireland for a time, | 0:01:07 | 0:01:09
it should eventually dry up a little bit here. | 0:01:09 | 0:01:11
Showery rain continues across Scotland. | 0:01:11 | 0:01:12
Further south, largely dry - | 0:01:12 | 0:01:14
the odd fog patch and maybe beginning | 0:01:14 | 0:01:16
to turn a bit humid down towards the south-east. | 0:01:16 | 0:01:18
Now, one subtle change on Saturday - | 0:01:18 | 0:01:20
this frontal system sinking its way | 0:01:20 | 0:01:22
a little bit further south. | 0:01:22 | 0:01:23
That will introduce perhaps a little more cloud | 0:01:23 | 0:01:26
for England and Wales, and there may just be | 0:01:26 | 0:01:28
the odd isolated shower here, | 0:01:28 | 0:01:29
but the vast majority here will stay dry. | 0:01:29 | 0:01:31
Still some showers for | 0:01:31 | 0:01:32
Northern Ireland and Scotland, | 0:01:32 | 0:01:34
maybe not quite as many showers by this stage, | 0:01:34 | 0:01:36
but some of them could still be on the heavy side. | 0:01:36 | 0:01:38
Quite a range of temperatures - | 0:01:38 | 0:01:40
17 degrees there in Glasgow, | 0:01:40 | 0:01:41
but 20 in Cardiff, | 0:01:41 | 0:01:43
and we could get to 25 in London. | 0:01:43 | 0:01:45
Now, Sunday will actually bring | 0:01:45 | 0:01:47
a fair amount of dry weather | 0:01:47 | 0:01:48
right across the country. | 0:01:48 | 0:01:50
Still some showers in the far north-west. | 0:01:50 | 0:01:52
Perhaps an isolated heavy shower further south, | 0:01:52 | 0:01:54
just a small chance of that, I suspect, | 0:01:54 | 0:01:56
17 to 24 degrees. | 0:01:56 | 0:01:58
But this if we look at the pressure pattern | 0:01:58 | 0:02:00
as we head on into Monday, | 0:02:00 | 0:02:02
a bank holiday for many places, of course, | 0:02:02 | 0:02:04
you can see things becoming a little more mobile. | 0:02:04 | 0:02:06
The white lines squashing together | 0:02:06 | 0:02:08
a bit more, that means there will be more | 0:02:08 | 0:02:10
of a breeze and this band of rain, | 0:02:10 | 0:02:12
heavy rain in the north-west, | 0:02:12 | 0:02:14
sinking its way southwards and eastwards, | 0:02:14 | 0:02:16
but weakening as it goes and, yes, you guessed it - | 0:02:16 | 0:02:18
parts of the south-east | 0:02:18 | 0:02:19
will stay completely dry during Monday. | 0:02:19 | 0:02:21
Now, through Monday night, our weather front | 0:02:21 | 0:02:23
sinks southwards and eastwards, | 0:02:23 | 0:02:25
but it's weakening all the while, | 0:02:25 | 0:02:27
so not much rain into the south-east. | 0:02:27 | 0:02:29
Maybe just some patches on Tuesday morning. | 0:02:29 | 0:02:32
Then a bit of a drier interlude, | 0:02:32 | 0:02:33
but we have a westerly wind - | 0:02:33 | 0:02:35
never a warm wind direction, so temperatures | 0:02:35 | 0:02:37
14 to 21 degrees at best. | 0:02:37 | 0:02:40
Now, as we get deeper into the week, | 0:02:40 | 0:02:42
our jet stream, instead of diving | 0:02:42 | 0:02:44
way down to the south, | 0:02:44 | 0:02:45
is making more of a beeline | 0:02:45 | 0:02:47
for the British Isles. | 0:02:47 | 0:02:48
That means weather systems will | 0:02:48 | 0:02:49
move in our direction and, | 0:02:49 | 0:02:51
on the face of it, it makes things | 0:02:51 | 0:02:52
look a little bit more changeable. | 0:02:52 | 0:02:54
However, low pressure is likely | 0:02:54 | 0:02:56
to sit to the north. | 0:02:56 | 0:02:57
Generally, we'll have a westerly wind, | 0:02:57 | 0:02:59
and what that means is, once again, | 0:02:59 | 0:03:00
the wettest of the weather will be | 0:03:00 | 0:03:02
up towards the north-west. | 0:03:02 | 0:03:03
Bands of rain or showers moving in, | 0:03:03 | 0:03:05
then as they move southwards and eastwards, | 0:03:05 | 0:03:08
remember, we move away from | 0:03:08 | 0:03:09
that area of low pressure, | 0:03:09 | 0:03:10
the rain will tend to weaken | 0:03:10 | 0:03:12
and we also have some shelter | 0:03:12 | 0:03:13
from that westerly wind, so eastern areas | 0:03:13 | 0:03:15
will see a lot of dry weather. | 0:03:15 | 0:03:17
Later next week, then, the pattern continues - | 0:03:17 | 0:03:19
the wettest weather will be in the north-west, | 0:03:19 | 0:03:21
it'll always stayed drier towards the south-east | 0:03:21 | 0:03:24
and no heatwave on the cards. | 0:03:24 | 0:03:26
Generally quite cool, | 0:03:26 | 0:03:27
so not too much changing over the next few days. | 0:03:27 | 0:03:30 |
