Hello. Summer warmth made a vague attempt

at a return earlier on this week, but it was swept away dramatically

by some heavy downpours

over the last day or so.

One example of some disruption

caused by those heavy downpours was

here in North Yorkshire,

but as the rain cleared away

on Wednesday, things did improve.

There were some spells of sunshine

and things do generally look

a lot less dramatic in our forecast

for the week ahead.

A lot of that is down to the Jet Stream

which, at the moment,

is diving right down here to the south.

That will develop an area of low pressure

just off the coast of Iberia

and what it leaves us with is

a very, very slack pressure pattern indeed.

Not a lot of white lines on the charts,

not a lot of isobars.

That means the winds aren't particularly strong.

There's nothing much to push the weather around.

So, what you get during Thursday

is going to be very similar to

what you'll get on Friday and Saturday as well.

Thursday will bring some showers

across Northern Ireland, western Scotland,

some into northern England.

Further south and east, it'll be largely dry

with some spells of sunshine

and temperatures of 18 to 22 degrees.

Now, some outbreaks of showery rain continue

in the north-west as we go through

Thursday night into Friday.

Further south, it stays largely dry.

There could be the odd mist patch,

temperatures around 12 to 14 degrees

and Friday is essentially a repeat performance.

Southern and eastern areas staying dry

with a good deal of sunshine.

The further north and west you are,

the more cloud there will be,

the greater chance of some showery rain,

particularly for Northern Ireland

and western Scotland.

Here, temperatures of 17 degrees

in Glasgow and Belfast,

but in the sunshine towards the south-east,

it will actually feel pleasantly warm

with highs of around 24.

We keep our rather slack pressure pattern

as we go into the start of the weekend.

You can see, still not many white lines,

not many isobars on the chart.

The winds still relatively light,

our showers still stranded up to the north-west,

so Scotland, Northern Ireland,

seeing some showers.

Some of these could be heavy.

Largely dry the further south and east you are

and still pretty warm as well,

25 degrees the high, there, in London.

A bit of a change on Saturday night -

potentially, there is the risk

that we'll see some showers or thunderstorms

just clipping into the south-east

and East Anglia.

It is just a risk at this stage.

Some of those could hang around

as we go on through the day on Sunday.

Still some showers up to the north-west,

you'll notice, where it'll be a bit breezy.

Generally a lot of dry weather

and some spells of sunshine.

Now, as we get on into Monday,

which is a bank holiday for many, of course,

things begin to turn a little more lively.

You can see the white lines squeezing together,

a bit more of a westerly wind

and a more concerted band of rain looks likely

to push into Scotland, Northern Ireland,

but then sinking southwards into northern England,

Wales, perhaps the south-west.

Still at this stage,

the south-east largely dry,

the winds beginning to pick up a little bit,

and that is just the first sign

of something a bit more mobile,

a little bit more lively

as we go on through next week -

our Jet Stream, at this stage,

looks likely to be pushing right

across the Atlantic and blowing

right across the British Isles.

But even then, it is

a little bit half-hearted.

This area of high pressure

doesn't make much progress

in across the country.

This area of low pressure really

just affects the far north.

What does that mean? Well, it means next week,

in northern areas, there's likely to be

some rain at times, and generally quite

a cool feel to the weather.

Further south, closer to that area

of high pressure, it'll often be dry

and, especially in the sunshine,

it'll feel pleasantly warm.

But certainly things look a little bit less dramatic

as we go through the next few days.
