Hello, there. There is a bank holiday weekend

1:05:171:05:19

just around the corner.

1:05:191:05:20

I wish I could stand here and tell you it was going to be glorious -

1:05:201:05:23

in fact, we really need Tuesday's weather,

1:05:231:05:25

because just take a look at Cornwall.

1:05:251:05:27

A beautiful day -

1:05:271:05:28

25 degrees, 77 Fahrenheit.

1:05:281:05:31

Not quite the case on Tuesday, though,

1:05:311:05:33

in Northern Ireland.

1:05:331:05:34

In Fermanagh we had rain so intense

1:05:341:05:36

it was bouncing off the roofs of the cars,

1:05:361:05:39

as you can see, by that beautiful Weather Watchers' picture -

1:05:391:05:41

and that rain is still going to be with us

1:05:411:05:44

across the far north for much of Wednesday.

1:05:441:05:46

Moving its way in from West to East,

1:05:461:05:48

there'll be some heavier bursts

1:05:481:05:49

as it moves through Scotland

1:05:491:05:51

and across the far north of England.

1:05:511:05:53

A band of cloud, really, through the Midlands,

1:05:531:05:55

and not really making much impression

1:05:551:05:57

across the south-east corner.

1:05:571:05:59

Behind it, fresher conditions,

1:05:591:06:01

with a scattering of showers,

1:06:011:06:02

19 to 20 degrees,

1:06:021:06:03

but we could see quite a humid feel, again,

1:06:031:06:06

in the south-east, with highs of 24.

1:06:061:06:09

As we move out of Wednesday,

1:06:091:06:10

it looks as though things will quieten down.

1:06:101:06:12

That frontal system gradually moves off into the Northern Isles.

1:06:121:06:15

Still some heavy rain here,

1:06:151:06:16

and a scattering of showers

1:06:161:06:18

to the north and west.

1:06:181:06:19

Not quite as humid a night,

1:06:191:06:21

12 to 14 degrees, perhaps,

1:06:211:06:23

quite widely across the country -

1:06:231:06:25

and, on Thursday, it will be a quieter day for most of us.

1:06:251:06:28

The exception, though,

1:06:281:06:29

still with an area of low pressure,

1:06:291:06:30

out in the north-west,

1:06:301:06:31

feeding in some showers on south-westerly flow

1:06:311:06:34

through Northern Ireland and Western Scotland.

1:06:341:06:36

Highs here of 17 to 18 degrees.

1:06:361:06:39

Decent spells of sunshine, perhaps,

1:06:391:06:40

in the south-east - 22 the high here.

1:06:401:06:43

Now, as we move into Friday,

1:06:431:06:45

we are still likely to see some outbreaks of showers

1:06:451:06:47

across Northern Ireland,

1:06:471:06:49

and maybe into Western Scotland,

1:06:491:06:51

but there will be some decent sunshine elsewhere,

1:06:511:06:53

and temperatures, again, will respond -

1:06:531:06:54

perhaps a degree or so higher.

1:06:541:06:56

In the south-east on Friday afternoon

1:06:561:06:58

we could see temperatures peaking at 24 degrees.

1:06:581:07:01

Remember these showers

1:07:011:07:02

up into the far north-west, here,

1:07:021:07:04

17 degrees,

1:07:041:07:05

and they could be a little bit of a nuisance

1:07:051:07:07

as we start the weekend.

1:07:071:07:09

There is still a level of uncertainty

1:07:091:07:10

as we move into the bank holiday weekend,

1:07:101:07:12

but it does look as though there is the potential

1:07:121:07:14

for that little weather front

1:07:141:07:16

to increase the risk of some showers

1:07:161:07:18

across the far south and east.

1:07:181:07:19

Why the level of uncertainty?

1:07:191:07:21

Well, the jet stream at the moment

1:07:211:07:23

is doing this significant kink

1:07:231:07:25

down to the west of the UK,

1:07:251:07:27

and when we see the jet stream in this position,

1:07:271:07:29

computer models tend to struggle with getting the detail -

1:07:291:07:33

and it looks, on Saturday, at the moment,

1:07:331:07:34

as though there's still the potential

1:07:341:07:36

for some sharp showers likely

1:07:361:07:38

into the south-east corner.

1:07:381:07:39

A drier story further north and west,

1:07:391:07:41

but it could still be quite warm,

1:07:411:07:43

so, some of those showers could be heavy

1:07:431:07:45

with rumbles of thunder -

1:07:451:07:46

but, by the time we move out of Saturday,

1:07:461:07:48

the jet stream almost splits in two,

1:07:481:07:50

and we see this little area of low pressure

1:07:501:07:52

forming down to the south -

1:07:521:07:54

but it reinvigorates itself across the UK,

1:07:541:07:57

and that means that things

1:07:571:07:58

could become a little more unsettled,

1:07:581:08:00

particularly into the far north-west,

1:08:001:08:03

with another area of low pressure

1:08:031:08:05

close off the shores here.

1:08:051:08:06

So, as we move into Sunday,

1:08:061:08:08

there is the potential for some wetter and windier weather

1:08:081:08:10

into the extreme north-west,

1:08:101:08:12

still the risk of some showers further south,

1:08:121:08:15

but there is a great deal of uncertainty

1:08:151:08:17

about the detail in Sunday's forecast.

1:08:171:08:19

If you've got outdoor plans,

1:08:191:08:21

do not make this the last forecast

1:08:211:08:22

that you're going to watch -

1:08:221:08:24

and that uncertainty actually continues

1:08:241:08:26

into the bank holiday Monday.

1:08:261:08:28

It looks as though the driest of the weather

1:08:281:08:29

will be in the south, the wettest in the north,

1:08:291:08:31

and this pattern sets us up

1:08:311:08:33

into the longer term period,

1:08:331:08:35

with high-pressure dominating

1:08:351:08:37

down to the south, potentially -

1:08:371:08:38

it stays low pressure to the north,

1:08:381:08:40

and that means we could continue

1:08:401:08:42

to see showers or strong winds at times.

1:08:421:08:44

Take care.
