I'll start and end this forecast with an area of high pressure.

0:00:020:00:05

Some variations in between which we will cover

0:00:050:00:07

in the next three and a half minutes.

0:00:070:00:08

For much of the country, Monday is a bank holiday

0:00:080:00:11

and this area of high pressure

0:00:110:00:12

bringing something very settled and warm

0:00:120:00:14

for much of England and Wales.

0:00:140:00:16

But further north and west, a different story.

0:00:160:00:18

A squeeze in the isobars strengthening the winds

0:00:180:00:20

across Northern Ireland and Scotland

0:00:200:00:22

and bringing some outbreaks

0:00:220:00:23

of potentially heavy rain here.

0:00:230:00:25

A lot more cloud across northern parts of England,

0:00:250:00:27

western parts of Wales,

0:00:270:00:28

but for east Wales and for much of England,

0:00:280:00:30

dry, plenty of sunshine.

0:00:300:00:32

Quite a range in temperature, as you would expect.

0:00:320:00:35

17 Celsius to the north-west of Scotland,

0:00:350:00:37

but in the best of the sunshine

0:00:370:00:38

across central, eastern,

0:00:380:00:40

south-eastern parts of England,

0:00:400:00:41

we could potentially see highs of 28 Celsius

0:00:410:00:43

and it will be a fine end to the day here.

0:00:430:00:46

A different story further north

0:00:460:00:48

and west as that band of rain sinks its way south

0:00:480:00:50

and eastwards through the evening

0:00:500:00:52

and overnight across parts

0:00:520:00:53

of northern England, northern parts of Wales.

0:00:530:00:55

An improving picture across Scotland and Northern Ireland,

0:00:550:00:58

but still very windy here

0:00:580:00:59

and it will be a mild night

0:00:590:01:01

with temperatures building up

0:01:010:01:02

to between 10 and 15 Celsius for most,

0:01:020:01:04

16 or 17 across south-eastern parts of the country.

0:01:040:01:07

Now, that front continues to slip its way south

0:01:070:01:10

and eastwards through Tuesday.

0:01:100:01:11

It's a weakening affair

0:01:110:01:13

so through Tuesday morning,

0:01:130:01:14

there could be some patchy light rain and drizzle,

0:01:140:01:16

say, across the Midlands, some parts of Wales,

0:01:160:01:19

but that will soon fizzle out.

0:01:190:01:20

A lot of cloud around on Tuesday,

0:01:200:01:22

but generally a dry day.

0:01:220:01:24

Still windy across Northern Ireland and Scotland

0:01:240:01:27

and certainly a fresher feel for much of north-western

0:01:270:01:29

and western parts of the country,

0:01:290:01:31

but still holding on to some warmth and humidity

0:01:310:01:34

the further east and south-east you go.

0:01:340:01:36

Now, let's look ahead to Wednesday

0:01:360:01:38

because we're being attacked from two fronts -

0:01:380:01:41

one from this system in the Atlantic

0:01:410:01:42

and another pushing up from the near continent

0:01:420:01:45

so it brings a slightly more unsettled day.

0:01:450:01:47

If we're going to see any rain at all in the week,

0:01:470:01:49

it will probably be on Wednesday.

0:01:490:01:51

The exact detail a little bit hard to define at this stage,

0:01:510:01:54

but it will be a cloudier day.

0:01:540:01:56

There will be some outbreaks of rain at times,

0:01:560:01:58

but it won't be raining all day

0:01:580:01:59

and the rain unlikely to amount to very much.

0:01:590:02:02

What we will see is generally fresher conditions

0:02:020:02:04

across the whole country,

0:02:040:02:06

midweek 16 to 20 Celsius the high.

0:02:060:02:08

Now, as we go into Thursday,

0:02:080:02:10

these systems slowly push their way eastwards.

0:02:100:02:13

Some of it may just linger for a time

0:02:130:02:15

on Thursday morning across south-east England,

0:02:150:02:17

but aside from a few showers across Northern Ireland

0:02:170:02:20

and Scotland on Thursday,

0:02:200:02:21

much of the country will have a dry day.

0:02:210:02:23

There'll be some spells of sunshine,

0:02:230:02:25

temperatures typically between 17 and 21 Celsius

0:02:250:02:28

in light winds.

0:02:280:02:29

It should feel quite pleasant out and about

0:02:290:02:31

and it's almost a repeat performance on Friday.

0:02:310:02:33

Mainly dry, one or two showers,

0:02:330:02:35

but in the sunshine, a high of 21 Celsius

0:02:350:02:37

really should feel quite pleasant indeed.

0:02:370:02:39

But we look to the south-west,

0:02:390:02:41

the western south-west later on Friday

0:02:410:02:43

and it's this area of low pressure

0:02:430:02:45

which is fairly close by.

0:02:450:02:46

However, it looks like this area of high pressure

0:02:460:02:49

is going to dominate as we head into the weekend

0:02:490:02:52

and what that will do

0:02:520:02:54

is deflect any low pressure systems.

0:02:540:02:57

Its exact position may well change

0:02:570:03:00

and it could just allow that low pressure system

0:03:000:03:02

to bring maybe a little bit more cloud,

0:03:020:03:04

maybe some patchy rain

0:03:040:03:05

to the far north-west of Scotland

0:03:050:03:07

and for Ireland,

0:03:070:03:08

but otherwise a lot of dry weather

0:03:080:03:10

into the weekend

0:03:100:03:11

and we're drawing up this warm air

0:03:110:03:13

from the near continent

0:03:130:03:14

so particularly across southern and eastern areas

0:03:140:03:16

as we go into early September,

0:03:160:03:18

there should be some warmth,

0:03:180:03:19

it should be largely settled.

0:03:190:03:21

I can't rule out one or two showers,

0:03:210:03:22

but it looks like

0:03:220:03:23

there's a lot of dry weather

0:03:230:03:25

into the start of next moth. Bye-bye.
