Hello. Cold air is across the UK. Milder air fights back next week.

In the battle between the two there could be a wintry flavour to

things for some, especially in Scotland, as we'll see in a moment.

For Friday in Scotland, it was sunshine

but also some heavy showers.

The best of the blue sky was in southern England, but for the

start of the weekend we're going to flip things around a bit.

It is Scotland that'll see the best of the sunshine,

though a chilly breeze.

This weather front, extending down towards the south of the UK,

will bring cloud and patchy rain. Let's take a look at things, then.

A touch of frost for some to begin the day, a few early showers

in northern England, but the sun comes out for the afternoon.

Lots of sunshine in Scotland, a few blustery showers in the north,

mainly dry but rather cloudy in Northern Ireland.

The rest of England and Wales will see increasing cloud,

some patchy rain, not amounting to too much,

perhaps a little bit less chilly, technically,

in parts of Wales and south-west England, but then again,

because it's cloudy it's still going to feel quite cold.

Now, this cloud and rain just retreats to the far

south-west of England on through Saturday night, allowing clear skies

to spread in across much of the UK, and that means another frost setting

in for Sunday morning. It could be quite a sharp frost in places.

But you know what that means. Get off to a frosty start

but then there's sunshine to come across Scotland, northern England,

much of the Midlands down through East Anglia and into the south-east.

For Northern Ireland, Wales and the south-west of England

on Sunday, here we've got cloud,

some patchy rain, and it's trying to feed its way north-eastwards.

It doesn't make much progress during the day,

but after the cold start, even though there's some sunshine,

those temperatures are struggling once again.

But as we go into Monday, we take the cloud and rain,

push it north-eastwards, but into that colder air,

just showing up, you can see there's a hint of snow being a possibility

as the moisture reaches into the colder air in Scotland on Monday,

especially to hills, but there's a risk of some to lower

levels in some spots, so do keep on checking the forecast.

So a messy picture in Scotland for Monday, some rain, some snow,

another cold day.

But you can see for England, for Wales, for Northern Ireland, that

milder air moving in but with plenty of cloud and some outbreaks of rain.

The weather has another go at getting rid of the cold

air from Scotland on Tuesday,

bringing another band of rain from the south-west,

travelling north-east, but again Tuesday into Wednesday, Tuesday

night into Wednesday, meeting the colder air in Scotland.

We could see some snow, especially to higher ground, out of that.

But it looks as if this latest weather system

for Wednesday will have some success in taking eventually

the milder air in across Scotland,

so we should be just about all into that during Wednesday.

A heavier band of rain coming in from the west, spreading south-east,

and stronger winds with gales in places on Wednesday, as well.

And that's the set-up for the second half of the week,

low pressure to the north-west, high pressure to the south-east,

and a mild flow of air coming in across the UK.

So, these are the details, then, for next week's weather.

We've established that it will be turning milder

because of the flow of air around these pressure systems.

But that milder flow will be bringing in lots of cloud,

will be bringing in some outbreaks of rain at times,

but not just rain - a risk,

especially during the first half of the week,

as the moisture meets the colder air in Scotland,

of getting some snow, perhaps not just on the hills.

As we go into the following weekend,

there's still this battle taking place.

Yes, there may be mild air across much of the UK,

but look at the blues lurking to the north.

Now, eventually the colder air is going to start to move south again.
