Hello, thanks for joining me. | 0:00:02 | 0:00:03
Time to have a look at the weather for the next few days, | 0:00:03 | 0:00:06
and, in the short term, | 0:00:06 | 0:00:07
I think Jack Frost is going to pay us a visit. | 0:00:07 | 0:00:10
The skies will be clearing | 0:00:10 | 0:00:11
through the course of Saturday night into Sunday, | 0:00:11 | 0:00:13
and Sunday morning is going to start off pretty nippy | 0:00:13 | 0:00:17
right across the UK. | 0:00:17 | 0:00:18
So, through the early hours, | 0:00:18 | 0:00:20
the skies are going to be clearing | 0:00:20 | 0:00:21
across most of the country, | 0:00:21 | 0:00:22
and, in the south, | 0:00:22 | 0:00:24
where we had all the cloud and drizzle and mist and murk, | 0:00:24 | 0:00:26
well, things will turn a lot clearer. | 0:00:26 | 0:00:28
So, even in the south, | 0:00:28 | 0:00:30
temperatures will be close to freezing | 0:00:30 | 0:00:32
first thing on Sunday morning. | 0:00:32 | 0:00:33
The far south-west, here, a bit milder. | 0:00:33 | 0:00:35
For example, in Plymouth, | 0:00:35 | 0:00:36
no lower than around 4 degrees - | 0:00:36 | 0:00:38
but, as I say, most of us will be waking up to chilly conditions. | 0:00:38 | 0:00:41
So, this is what it looks like | 0:00:41 | 0:00:43
first thing in the morning, | 0:00:43 | 0:00:44
around nine o'clock. | 0:00:44 | 0:00:45
Beautiful weather, there, in the Lowlands, | 0:00:45 | 0:00:47
but it will be cold, | 0:00:47 | 0:00:48
around one degree above freezing. | 0:00:48 | 0:00:50
Five degrees, there, for Belfast, | 0:00:50 | 0:00:52
and, throughout much of England and Wales, | 0:00:52 | 0:00:54
a beautiful but crisp start to the day, | 0:00:54 | 0:00:57
and a touch of frost, as well, in some areas - | 0:00:57 | 0:00:59
but not the south-west of the country, here. | 0:00:59 | 0:01:01
In fact, this is where the weather | 0:01:01 | 0:01:03
starts to turn, at this stage. | 0:01:03 | 0:01:04
we'll see a shift in the wind direction, | 0:01:04 | 0:01:06
the south-westerlies will start approaching | 0:01:06 | 0:01:08
and pushing in thicker cloud off the Atlantic | 0:01:08 | 0:01:11
and also little bits and pieces of rain, | 0:01:11 | 0:01:13
but I think most of daylight hours, at least, | 0:01:13 | 0:01:15
across the UK, will be dry | 0:01:15 | 0:01:16
and, certainly, eastern areas | 0:01:16 | 0:01:18
will hang on to the clear weather | 0:01:18 | 0:01:20
right through the course of the day | 0:01:20 | 0:01:22
until sunset. | 0:01:22 | 0:01:23
So, I think Sunday evening | 0:01:23 | 0:01:25
is looking clear and chilly across the east, | 0:01:25 | 0:01:27
but, in the west, | 0:01:27 | 0:01:28
yet another weather front moves in, | 0:01:28 | 0:01:30
and it will turn damp in places like Belfast - | 0:01:30 | 0:01:32
and that's a hint of things to come for Monday. | 0:01:32 | 0:01:35
A low pressure right across the UK, | 0:01:35 | 0:01:36
with the heaviest of the rain | 0:01:36 | 0:01:38
in the north of the country. | 0:01:38 | 0:01:40
In the south, | 0:01:40 | 0:01:41
we have those south-westerly winds, | 0:01:41 | 0:01:43
and look at those temperatures, | 0:01:43 | 0:01:44
possibly getting up to around about 14 degrees - | 0:01:44 | 0:01:46
and I think the rain will come and go | 0:01:46 | 0:01:48
through the course of Monday, | 0:01:48 | 0:01:49
and then it will return again, | 0:01:49 | 0:01:51
Monday into Tuesday, | 0:01:51 | 0:01:52
with yet another low-pressure moving in, | 0:01:52 | 0:01:54
and this time, that low | 0:01:54 | 0:01:55
is moving right into the heart of the UK, | 0:01:55 | 0:01:57
right into the middle part of the British Isles, | 0:01:57 | 0:01:59
so, this is where the heaviest of the rain could be, | 0:01:59 | 0:02:01
say, around the Lake District | 0:02:01 | 0:02:02
straight into the Pennines. | 0:02:02 | 0:02:03
To the south, | 0:02:03 | 0:02:04
the south-westerlies drag in the milder air, | 0:02:04 | 0:02:06
but look at the north - | 0:02:06 | 0:02:07
we've got northerly winds here, | 0:02:07 | 0:02:09
so, just that little bit colder, | 0:02:09 | 0:02:10
and a very similar pattern on Wednesday, as well. | 0:02:10 | 0:02:12
So, the UK is very much split in half. | 0:02:12 | 0:02:15
In the south, which is often the case, | 0:02:15 | 0:02:17
it's going to be a lot milder, | 0:02:17 | 0:02:19
with south-westerly winds. | 0:02:19 | 0:02:21
Central parts of the UK | 0:02:21 | 0:02:22
will have that weather front sliding through, | 0:02:22 | 0:02:24
so, this is where we're likely to see | 0:02:24 | 0:02:26
the heavier rain, and then, in the north, | 0:02:26 | 0:02:27
we see the air's coming from a different direction, | 0:02:27 | 0:02:30
so it's colder. | 0:02:30 | 0:02:31
Temperatures in Scotland, there, 7 degrees, | 0:02:31 | 0:02:32
and it's just about cold enough | 0:02:32 | 0:02:34
for some mountain snow. | 0:02:34 | 0:02:35
So, that's Wednesday. | 0:02:35 | 0:02:36
Pretty messy across the UK | 0:02:36 | 0:02:38
both Tuesday and Wednesday. | 0:02:38 | 0:02:40
Come Thursday and Friday, | 0:02:40 | 0:02:41
there is a shift in the weather, | 0:02:41 | 0:02:43
a more substantial shift. | 0:02:43 | 0:02:45
This big area of low pressure | 0:02:45 | 0:02:47
brings unsettled weather, | 0:02:47 | 0:02:48
and, then, as it pulls away - | 0:02:48 | 0:02:49
remember, winds blow around | 0:02:49 | 0:02:51
the low-pressure like so, | 0:02:51 | 0:02:53
it drags in colder air from the north, | 0:02:53 | 0:02:55
so, there will be a surge of colder weather | 0:02:55 | 0:02:57
approaching the British Isles | 0:02:57 | 0:02:59
by the time we get to Friday, | 0:02:59 | 0:03:00
and then, quite possibly, | 0:03:00 | 0:03:01
through the weekend, | 0:03:01 | 0:03:02
that colder air | 0:03:02 | 0:03:03
even marches into the continent. | 0:03:03 | 0:03:05
Just how cold it's going to get, | 0:03:05 | 0:03:07
too early to say, | 0:03:07 | 0:03:08
but cold enough for thick coats and gloves - | 0:03:08 | 0:03:11
especially if you live | 0:03:11 | 0:03:12
across northern parts of the UK. | 0:03:12 | 0:03:13
Could be quite a strong wind blowing | 0:03:13 | 0:03:15
out of the north, as well. | 0:03:15 | 0:03:16
So, quite a lot happening on the weather front. | 0:03:16 | 0:03:18
Let's summarise that. | 0:03:18 | 0:03:19
A mild week ahead | 0:03:19 | 0:03:20
with some rain at times | 0:03:20 | 0:03:21
and then, towards the end of the week, | 0:03:21 | 0:03:23
into the weekend, looks like we'll see | 0:03:23 | 0:03:25
a surge of colder weather coming in | 0:03:25 | 0:03:26
all the way from the Arctic. | 0:03:26 | 0:03:28 |
