Hello, thanks for joining me.

0:00:020:00:03

Time to have a look at the weather for the next few days,

0:00:030:00:06

and, in the short term,

0:00:060:00:07

I think Jack Frost is going to pay us a visit.

0:00:070:00:10

The skies will be clearing

0:00:100:00:11

through the course of Saturday night into Sunday,

0:00:110:00:13

and Sunday morning is going to start off pretty nippy

0:00:130:00:17

right across the UK.

0:00:170:00:18

So, through the early hours,

0:00:180:00:20

the skies are going to be clearing

0:00:200:00:21

across most of the country,

0:00:210:00:22

and, in the south,

0:00:220:00:24

where we had all the cloud and drizzle and mist and murk,

0:00:240:00:26

well, things will turn a lot clearer.

0:00:260:00:28

So, even in the south,

0:00:280:00:30

temperatures will be close to freezing

0:00:300:00:32

first thing on Sunday morning.

0:00:320:00:33

The far south-west, here, a bit milder.

0:00:330:00:35

For example, in Plymouth,

0:00:350:00:36

no lower than around 4 degrees -

0:00:360:00:38

but, as I say, most of us will be waking up to chilly conditions.

0:00:380:00:41

So, this is what it looks like

0:00:410:00:43

first thing in the morning,

0:00:430:00:44

around nine o'clock.

0:00:440:00:45

Beautiful weather, there, in the Lowlands,

0:00:450:00:47

but it will be cold,

0:00:470:00:48

around one degree above freezing.

0:00:480:00:50

Five degrees, there, for Belfast,

0:00:500:00:52

and, throughout much of England and Wales,

0:00:520:00:54

a beautiful but crisp start to the day,

0:00:540:00:57

and a touch of frost, as well, in some areas -

0:00:570:00:59

but not the south-west of the country, here.

0:00:590:01:01

In fact, this is where the weather

0:01:010:01:03

starts to turn, at this stage.

0:01:030:01:04

we'll see a shift in the wind direction,

0:01:040:01:06

the south-westerlies will start approaching

0:01:060:01:08

and pushing in thicker cloud off the Atlantic

0:01:080:01:11

and also little bits and pieces of rain,

0:01:110:01:13

but I think most of daylight hours, at least,

0:01:130:01:15

across the UK, will be dry

0:01:150:01:16

and, certainly, eastern areas

0:01:160:01:18

will hang on to the clear weather

0:01:180:01:20

right through the course of the day

0:01:200:01:22

until sunset.

0:01:220:01:23

So, I think Sunday evening

0:01:230:01:25

is looking clear and chilly across the east,

0:01:250:01:27

but, in the west,

0:01:270:01:28

yet another weather front moves in,

0:01:280:01:30

and it will turn damp in places like Belfast -

0:01:300:01:32

and that's a hint of things to come for Monday.

0:01:320:01:35

A low pressure right across the UK,

0:01:350:01:36

with the heaviest of the rain

0:01:360:01:38

in the north of the country.

0:01:380:01:40

In the south,

0:01:400:01:41

we have those south-westerly winds,

0:01:410:01:43

and look at those temperatures,

0:01:430:01:44

possibly getting up to around about 14 degrees -

0:01:440:01:46

and I think the rain will come and go

0:01:460:01:48

through the course of Monday,

0:01:480:01:49

and then it will return again,

0:01:490:01:51

Monday into Tuesday,

0:01:510:01:52

with yet another low-pressure moving in,

0:01:520:01:54

and this time, that low

0:01:540:01:55

is moving right into the heart of the UK,

0:01:550:01:57

right into the middle part of the British Isles,

0:01:570:01:59

so, this is where the heaviest of the rain could be,

0:01:590:02:01

say, around the Lake District

0:02:010:02:02

straight into the Pennines.

0:02:020:02:03

To the south,

0:02:030:02:04

the south-westerlies drag in the milder air,

0:02:040:02:06

but look at the north -

0:02:060:02:07

we've got northerly winds here,

0:02:070:02:09

so, just that little bit colder,

0:02:090:02:10

and a very similar pattern on Wednesday, as well.

0:02:100:02:12

So, the UK is very much split in half.

0:02:120:02:15

In the south, which is often the case,

0:02:150:02:17

it's going to be a lot milder,

0:02:170:02:19

with south-westerly winds.

0:02:190:02:21

Central parts of the UK

0:02:210:02:22

will have that weather front sliding through,

0:02:220:02:24

so, this is where we're likely to see

0:02:240:02:26

the heavier rain, and then, in the north,

0:02:260:02:27

we see the air's coming from a different direction,

0:02:270:02:30

so it's colder.

0:02:300:02:31

Temperatures in Scotland, there, 7 degrees,

0:02:310:02:32

and it's just about cold enough

0:02:320:02:34

for some mountain snow.

0:02:340:02:35

So, that's Wednesday.

0:02:350:02:36

Pretty messy across the UK

0:02:360:02:38

both Tuesday and Wednesday.

0:02:380:02:40

Come Thursday and Friday,

0:02:400:02:41

there is a shift in the weather,

0:02:410:02:43

a more substantial shift.

0:02:430:02:45

This big area of low pressure

0:02:450:02:47

brings unsettled weather,

0:02:470:02:48

and, then, as it pulls away -

0:02:480:02:49

remember, winds blow around

0:02:490:02:51

the low-pressure like so,

0:02:510:02:53

it drags in colder air from the north,

0:02:530:02:55

so, there will be a surge of colder weather

0:02:550:02:57

approaching the British Isles

0:02:570:02:59

by the time we get to Friday,

0:02:590:03:00

and then, quite possibly,

0:03:000:03:01

through the weekend,

0:03:010:03:02

that colder air

0:03:020:03:03

even marches into the continent.

0:03:030:03:05

Just how cold it's going to get,

0:03:050:03:07

too early to say,

0:03:070:03:08

but cold enough for thick coats and gloves -

0:03:080:03:11

especially if you live

0:03:110:03:12

across northern parts of the UK.

0:03:120:03:13

Could be quite a strong wind blowing

0:03:130:03:15

out of the north, as well.

0:03:150:03:16

So, quite a lot happening on the weather front.

0:03:160:03:18

Let's summarise that.

0:03:180:03:19

A mild week ahead

0:03:190:03:20

with some rain at times

0:03:200:03:21

and then, towards the end of the week,

0:03:210:03:23

into the weekend, looks like we'll see

0:03:230:03:25

a surge of colder weather coming in

0:03:250:03:26

all the way from the Arctic.
