Hello. There are many faces to autumn and, | 0:00:02 | 0:00:04
recently, we've been seeing the quieter side of the season. | 0:00:04 | 0:00:07
There's been light winds through much of this week so mist and fog | 0:00:07 | 0:00:11
has been a problem through the morning. | 0:00:11 | 0:00:13
Slow to clear in places. | 0:00:13 | 0:00:14
And with clear skies and temperatures | 0:00:14 | 0:00:16
below zero, many of us have been | 0:00:16 | 0:00:18
waking up to a frost. Also, plenty of sunshine | 0:00:18 | 0:00:21
by day. So, where's the wet and windy | 0:00:21 | 0:00:23
weather that we normally associate with autumn? | 0:00:23 | 0:00:25
Well, it's on its way this week. | 0:00:25 | 0:00:27
The Atlantic is going to be the influence | 0:00:27 | 0:00:29
for our weather through much of the week, | 0:00:29 | 0:00:31
pushing up multiple frontal systems across. | 0:00:31 | 0:00:33
So, that means there's going to be | 0:00:33 | 0:00:35
some outbreaks of rain on most days, | 0:00:35 | 0:00:37
some of it is likely to be heavy. | 0:00:37 | 0:00:38
It will also be quite windy, especially through the middle | 0:00:38 | 0:00:41
and latter half of the week. | 0:00:41 | 0:00:43
But it will be turning much milder for many of us. | 0:00:43 | 0:00:46
We start Monday on a fairly wet note. | 0:00:46 | 0:00:48
There will be some snow over | 0:00:48 | 0:00:49
the Scottish mountains for a time. | 0:00:49 | 0:00:51
That rain slowly clearing for Northern Ireland, | 0:00:51 | 0:00:53
Scotland may take its time to clear | 0:00:53 | 0:00:54
from the eastern side of England. | 0:00:54 | 0:00:56
Behind it, some brighter skies | 0:00:56 | 0:00:58
and not so much rain the further | 0:00:58 | 0:01:00
south and west that you are. | 0:01:00 | 0:01:01
Certainly, a milder day here. | 0:01:01 | 0:01:03
12-13 Celsius but still holding on | 0:01:03 | 0:01:05
to something cooler | 0:01:05 | 0:01:06
for Scotland and Northern Ireland. | 0:01:06 | 0:01:09
Now, we've been having a bit of | 0:01:09 | 0:01:10
a battle in recent days between | 0:01:10 | 0:01:11
the cold air to the east | 0:01:11 | 0:01:12
and something milder to the west. | 0:01:12 | 0:01:14
And as we go through next week, | 0:01:14 | 0:01:16
it looks like that mild air will | 0:01:16 | 0:01:17
win through for most, | 0:01:17 | 0:01:18
although eventually something colder | 0:01:18 | 0:01:20
returns to Scotland and Northern Ireland. | 0:01:20 | 0:01:22
It's quite a messy picture as we go into Tuesday. | 0:01:22 | 0:01:24
There's another frontal system | 0:01:24 | 0:01:25
approaching and that will bring | 0:01:25 | 0:01:27
some heavy outbreaks of rain, | 0:01:27 | 0:01:28
mainly to Scotland, Northern Ireland, | 0:01:28 | 0:01:29
northern England and eventually later | 0:01:29 | 0:01:31
in the day into Wales and south-west England. | 0:01:31 | 0:01:33
Looks like at this stage | 0:01:33 | 0:01:35
the further south and east you are | 0:01:35 | 0:01:36
holding on to something drier, | 0:01:36 | 0:01:37
maybe brighter, but notice the strength of the wind, | 0:01:37 | 0:01:40
particularly across western coasts, | 0:01:40 | 0:01:41
likely to touch gale force here. | 0:01:41 | 0:01:43
But mild, 12-14 Celsius | 0:01:43 | 0:01:45
for much of England and Wales. | 0:01:45 | 0:01:47
Still struggling to get | 0:01:47 | 0:01:48
to double figures for Scotland. | 0:01:48 | 0:01:49
Another unsettled day on Wednesday. | 0:01:49 | 0:01:51
The wettest weather for Northern Ireland. | 0:01:51 | 0:01:53
Southern parts of Scotland, | 0:01:53 | 0:01:54
down through Wales and south-west England, | 0:01:54 | 0:01:56
strong winds here, touching gale force in places. | 0:01:56 | 0:01:59
Dry and brighter potentially | 0:01:59 | 0:02:01
again the further east you are, and mild, | 0:02:01 | 0:02:02
maybe 15 Celsius | 0:02:02 | 0:02:04
across the south-east on Wednesday. | 0:02:04 | 0:02:06
But look at the amount | 0:02:06 | 0:02:08
of isobars as we go into Thursday. | 0:02:08 | 0:02:10
Tightly packed together. | 0:02:10 | 0:02:11
That means some strong winds. | 0:02:11 | 0:02:12
Low pressure nearby | 0:02:12 | 0:02:14
pushing another frontal system across. | 0:02:14 | 0:02:16
So, there will be more rain. | 0:02:16 | 0:02:17
Once again, probably the further west you are | 0:02:17 | 0:02:19
is where the wettest weather will be. | 0:02:19 | 0:02:21
As you had further east, | 0:02:21 | 0:02:23
it's drier and still mild, 13-14 Celsius. | 0:02:23 | 0:02:26
There's more wet weather | 0:02:26 | 0:02:27
pushing into Scotland and Northern Ireland. | 0:02:27 | 0:02:29
There's not much change as we go into Friday. | 0:02:29 | 0:02:32
We keep those strong winds, | 0:02:32 | 0:02:33
we keep further outbreaks of rain. | 0:02:33 | 0:02:35
The thing to pick up on | 0:02:35 | 0:02:36
for the end of the week | 0:02:36 | 0:02:38
is that rain is likely to become much heavier | 0:02:38 | 0:02:39
across central and southern England. | 0:02:39 | 0:02:41
Maybe with a rumble of thunder | 0:02:41 | 0:02:43
and still some strong, if not gale force, winds. | 0:02:43 | 0:02:46
Mild here, starting to see | 0:02:46 | 0:02:47
something colder and quieter returning | 0:02:47 | 0:02:50
to Scotland and Northern Ireland. | 0:02:50 | 0:02:52
If you were watching yesterday, Tom talked about | 0:02:52 | 0:02:54
the potential for this colder air | 0:02:54 | 0:02:56
to plunge across the country through the weekend. | 0:02:56 | 0:02:58
There's still a chance that could happen. | 0:02:58 | 0:03:00
We hold on to the cold air across Scotland and Northern Ireland. | 0:03:00 | 0:03:02
But now there is some thought | 0:03:02 | 0:03:04
that England and Wales will keep | 0:03:04 | 0:03:06
this Atlantic influence | 0:03:06 | 0:03:07
not just through the weekend | 0:03:07 | 0:03:08
but into next week as well. | 0:03:08 | 0:03:10
So, still windy, | 0:03:10 | 0:03:11
and still some outbreaks of rain. | 0:03:11 | 0:03:13
Now, there's a lot to play for | 0:03:13 | 0:03:14
this far ahead but it looks like | 0:03:14 | 0:03:16
it's going to the following week, | 0:03:16 | 0:03:18
we'll hang onto that Atlantic influence, | 0:03:18 | 0:03:20
particularly across England and Wales. | 0:03:20 | 0:03:22
Wettest weather in the west, | 0:03:22 | 0:03:23
the coldest conditions in the north | 0:03:23 | 0:03:25
with still the chance of some snow | 0:03:25 | 0:03:27
for Scotland and Northern Ireland. | 0:03:27 | 0:03:29 |
