Quite a storm, Tuesday night,

0:00:020:00:03

into the early hours of Wednesday across the UK.

0:00:030:00:06

The good news is, no storms in the short term -

0:00:060:00:09

but let's have a look at those gale force winds.

0:00:090:00:11

In fact, storm force winds, there,

0:00:110:00:13

in the north of the country.

0:00:130:00:14

100mph, Great Dun Fell,

0:00:140:00:16

even in West London itself, 73mph -

0:00:160:00:19

and in London we had some damage, as well.

0:00:190:00:22

Of course, in big cities

0:00:220:00:23

we don't often get winds

0:00:230:00:25

of that sort of strength,

0:00:250:00:26

but a lot of trees falling down

0:00:260:00:29

across many parts of the UK.

0:00:290:00:31

Masonry falling off some buildings, as well,

0:00:310:00:34

so a really dangerous picture across the UK.

0:00:340:00:38

Some other spectacular pictures

0:00:380:00:40

coming in, as well.

0:00:400:00:41

Here's one from Anglesey,

0:00:410:00:43

beautiful stormy seas, there,

0:00:430:00:46

and in Aberdeenshire,

0:00:460:00:47

which wasn't affected by the storm,

0:00:470:00:49

a wintry scene, there,

0:00:490:00:51

so, Scotland, for a change, in the north,

0:00:510:00:53

had much quieter weather.

0:00:530:00:54

Remnants of the storm, Storm Eleanor,

0:00:540:00:56

across the Baltic at the moment,

0:00:560:00:58

just about into Scandinavia.

0:00:580:00:59

There's another weather system heading our way

0:00:590:01:02

during early Thursday,

0:01:020:01:03

and we are expecting the wind to freshen once again

0:01:030:01:06

across the south.

0:01:060:01:07

There'll be some rain, too,

0:01:070:01:08

but nothing of the magnitude

0:01:080:01:10

that we've recently had.

0:01:100:01:12

So, early on Thursday,

0:01:120:01:13

temperatures are generally above freezing

0:01:130:01:15

across most of the UK,

0:01:150:01:16

and in the far north

0:01:160:01:17

and north-east of Scotland, there,

0:01:170:01:18

a touch of frost.

0:01:180:01:20

Here's a look at the morning on Thursday.

0:01:200:01:21

By this stage, the weather front

0:01:210:01:23

will have moved through across the south-west,

0:01:230:01:25

but brought quite a bit of rain here.

0:01:250:01:26

By this stage, we could have seen some flooding.

0:01:260:01:28

Very windy - some western and southern coasts,

0:01:280:01:31

we are talking about gale force winds

0:01:310:01:33

and rough conditions out around the coastline.

0:01:330:01:35

You know, after the passage of a storm

0:01:350:01:37

it takes a while for the sea

0:01:370:01:38

to kind of calm down,

0:01:380:01:39

and with the winds picking up once again

0:01:390:01:41

with this weather front moving through,

0:01:410:01:44

it is going to take time

0:01:440:01:45

for the seas to ease a little bit.

0:01:450:01:47

So, I think another very blustery day

0:01:470:01:49

across western and southern areas,

0:01:490:01:50

but nothing like what we've had.

0:01:500:01:52

By the end of the afternoon,

0:01:520:01:53

the rain is reaching northern parts of England,

0:01:530:01:56

nudging into Scotland.

0:01:560:01:57

Quite a temperature contrast.

0:01:570:01:58

A balmy 13 in the south,

0:01:580:01:59

and you can see, in northern Scotland,

0:01:590:02:01

there, around about 6 degrees.

0:02:010:02:02

Let's have a look at Friday.

0:02:020:02:03

A real messy picture -

0:02:030:02:05

it looks almost like a Picasso, doesn't it?

0:02:050:02:07

Lots of little areas of low pressure,

0:02:070:02:08

weather fronts around, as well.

0:02:080:02:10

That basically translates

0:02:100:02:12

to a changeable day across the UK

0:02:120:02:13

from morning onwards. Again, blustery,

0:02:130:02:15

a little low pressure spinning around here

0:02:150:02:17

across the south-west may give, temporarily,

0:02:170:02:19

some gale force winds, as well,

0:02:190:02:21

and then, into Saturday, things start to change.

0:02:210:02:24

All of that messy weather,

0:02:240:02:25

with the fronts and the lows,

0:02:250:02:27

slips southwards,

0:02:270:02:28

because this high starts to build in -

0:02:280:02:30

and we'll also start to see

0:02:300:02:31

colder air seeping in from the north,

0:02:310:02:34

so, there is a significant change

0:02:340:02:35

as we head into the weekend,

0:02:350:02:37

from this sort of milder, stormy weather coming

0:02:370:02:40

out of the south-west,

0:02:400:02:41

we're going to have much colder, calmer weather

0:02:410:02:43

coming out of the north -

0:02:430:02:45

but, for a time, there could even be

0:02:450:02:46

a little bit of wintriness around,

0:02:460:02:48

maybe some wintry showers across northern areas,

0:02:480:02:50

and a really biting wind,

0:02:500:02:52

real significant wind chill, I think,

0:02:520:02:54

to come through Saturday and Sunday.

0:02:540:02:56

Anybody in the north and east will notice it,

0:02:560:02:58

and those easterly winds continue into Monday.

0:02:580:03:01

A lot of dry weather, frost,

0:03:010:03:03

possibly some morning fog

0:03:030:03:04

if the winds die out

0:03:040:03:05

during the course of the night -

0:03:050:03:07

and this is the pattern that we're going to see

0:03:070:03:09

early next week.

0:03:090:03:10

So, high pressure here -

0:03:100:03:11

this is what the jet stream does,

0:03:110:03:12

it sort of goes around the high pressure,

0:03:120:03:14

and these lows get stuck,

0:03:140:03:15

they can't move through,

0:03:150:03:16

because of this high -

0:03:160:03:17

and, instead, what we do get

0:03:170:03:19

early next week is, perhaps,

0:03:190:03:20

colder air seeping in

0:03:200:03:22

from northern and eastern parts of Europe.

0:03:220:03:25

So, there is a definite change on the way

0:03:250:03:27

after this stormy weather.
