Hello, there. This weekend has already | 0:00:02 | 0:00:03
brought us some very mild weather. | 0:00:03 | 0:00:05
There's more to come during Sunday but, as so often at this | 0:00:05 | 0:00:08
time of year, the price we pay for mild weather is cloudy weather. | 0:00:08 | 0:00:12
We have had grey skies overhead in many places during Saturday, | 0:00:12 | 0:00:15
outbreaks of rain as well, and we'll keep the cloud, | 0:00:15 | 0:00:19
pushing in from the west on Sunday, these mild, | 0:00:19 | 0:00:21
moist south-westerly winds coming in off the Atlantic. | 0:00:21 | 0:00:24
And, stuck in that westerly airflow, we will have this weather front, | 0:00:24 | 0:00:28
rather stranded, unable to move very far north or very far south. | 0:00:28 | 0:00:32
So rain just continues through the day on Sunday, | 0:00:32 | 0:00:34
through central and southern parts of Scotland. | 0:00:34 | 0:00:36
To the north of that, something a little bit brighter but colder. | 0:00:36 | 0:00:39
To the south, where we have all the cloud, well, | 0:00:39 | 0:00:41
that's where the mildest of the weather will be. | 0:00:41 | 0:00:43
And if you get lucky | 0:00:43 | 0:00:44
and that cloud does break up for any length of time and you get | 0:00:44 | 0:00:47
some sunshine, well, here, you could get to 14 or 15 Celsius. | 0:00:47 | 0:00:52
Now, as we move out of Sunday into Monday, | 0:00:52 | 0:00:54
that weather front which will have been stuck across northern areas | 0:00:54 | 0:00:57
finally gets its act together and pushes south as a cold front. | 0:00:57 | 0:01:00
So as the name suggests, behind it, | 0:01:00 | 0:01:02
we will see colder weather working its way in. | 0:01:02 | 0:01:05
During Monday, along the frontal band, we'll see | 0:01:05 | 0:01:07
outbreaks of heavy rain sliding southwards across England and Wales. | 0:01:07 | 0:01:10
Behind that rain band, that's where we get into that colder air | 0:01:10 | 0:01:13
but that is also where we get to see some brightness, | 0:01:13 | 0:01:16
some spells of sunshine developing. | 0:01:16 | 0:01:18
Some showers, which could be wintry over high ground in the north-west. | 0:01:18 | 0:01:21
Those temperatures dropping away, as the day goes on, | 0:01:21 | 0:01:25
behind that weather front. | 0:01:25 | 0:01:26
Now, as we move into Tuesday, this area | 0:01:26 | 0:01:28
of high pressure tries to take a bit more control of the weather, | 0:01:28 | 0:01:32
so Tuesday actually not a bad day in many places. | 0:01:32 | 0:01:35
Could be a touch of frost, | 0:01:35 | 0:01:36
particularly down towards the south on Tuesday morning. | 0:01:36 | 0:01:39
Then we'll see some spells of sunshine, | 0:01:39 | 0:01:40
but a two-pronged attack from weather systems, | 0:01:40 | 0:01:43
one pushing in towards the south-west, | 0:01:43 | 0:01:45
so there could be some here later in the day | 0:01:45 | 0:01:47
and another weather system moving in towards the north-west. | 0:01:47 | 0:01:49
That'll bring some heavy rain, we suspect, | 0:01:49 | 0:01:51
across the north-west of Scotland. | 0:01:51 | 0:01:53
And these two weather systems will essentially join | 0:01:53 | 0:01:55
together during Tuesday night. | 0:01:55 | 0:01:57
They will then slide southwards and eastwards and we get back into some | 0:01:57 | 0:02:01
colder air, north-westerly winds bringing a drop in the temperatures. | 0:02:01 | 0:02:06
But, once again, | 0:02:06 | 0:02:07
with that cold air we should get to see some spells of sunshine. | 0:02:07 | 0:02:12
But you will notice, at this stage on Wednesday, | 0:02:12 | 0:02:14
quite a few showers as well, these showers wintry over high ground | 0:02:14 | 0:02:17
towards the north-west, but perhaps even to fairly low levels | 0:02:17 | 0:02:20
as the day goes on, especially the further north you are. | 0:02:20 | 0:02:23
Quite a blustery day and single-digit temperatures for many. | 0:02:23 | 0:02:26
And, as we move into Thursday, this area of low pressure, | 0:02:26 | 0:02:29
which could actually bring some very strong winds indeed | 0:02:29 | 0:02:31
in north-eastern areas, slides its way southwards and eastwards. | 0:02:31 | 0:02:34
It leaves us with a north or north-westerly wind. | 0:02:34 | 0:02:37
It's pretty cold weather across the country | 0:02:37 | 0:02:39
but the showers should tend to fade at this stage. | 0:02:39 | 0:02:42
We'll see more dry weather, more spells of sunshine, | 0:02:42 | 0:02:45
highs of 6 to 8 Celsius. | 0:02:45 | 0:02:46
Now, as we move towards the end of the week, | 0:02:46 | 0:02:49
we'll continue to lose that cluster of showers as the area of low | 0:02:49 | 0:02:52
pressure moves away | 0:02:52 | 0:02:53
and then we bring a frontal system in from the west. | 0:02:53 | 0:02:56
More cloud with that, outbreaks of rain, temporarily, | 0:02:56 | 0:02:59
with the extra cloud, remember, some milder air. | 0:02:59 | 0:03:02
So perhaps something a little bit milder for a time | 0:03:02 | 0:03:04
into the start of next weekend. | 0:03:04 | 0:03:06
Not as mild as it has been this weekend, | 0:03:06 | 0:03:08
but hot on the heels of that brief incursion of milder air, | 0:03:08 | 0:03:12
there is more cold air that will eventually head our way, | 0:03:12 | 0:03:16
so generally speaking through next weekend, | 0:03:16 | 0:03:18
we will see spells of rain at times. | 0:03:18 | 0:03:20
With that, some milder air but some brighter periods too, | 0:03:20 | 0:03:23
cold enough in those brighter spells for some wintry showers | 0:03:23 | 0:03:26
and temperatures pretty variable over the next few days. | 0:03:26 | 0:03:29 |
