Hello, there. This weekend has already

0:00:020:00:03

brought us some very mild weather.

0:00:030:00:05

There's more to come during Sunday but, as so often at this

0:00:050:00:08

time of year, the price we pay for mild weather is cloudy weather.

0:00:080:00:12

We have had grey skies overhead in many places during Saturday,

0:00:120:00:15

outbreaks of rain as well, and we'll keep the cloud,

0:00:150:00:19

pushing in from the west on Sunday, these mild,

0:00:190:00:21

moist south-westerly winds coming in off the Atlantic.

0:00:210:00:24

And, stuck in that westerly airflow, we will have this weather front,

0:00:240:00:28

rather stranded, unable to move very far north or very far south.

0:00:280:00:32

So rain just continues through the day on Sunday,

0:00:320:00:34

through central and southern parts of Scotland.

0:00:340:00:36

To the north of that, something a little bit brighter but colder.

0:00:360:00:39

To the south, where we have all the cloud, well,

0:00:390:00:41

that's where the mildest of the weather will be.

0:00:410:00:43

And if you get lucky

0:00:430:00:44

and that cloud does break up for any length of time and you get

0:00:440:00:47

some sunshine, well, here, you could get to 14 or 15 Celsius.

0:00:470:00:52

Now, as we move out of Sunday into Monday,

0:00:520:00:54

that weather front which will have been stuck across northern areas

0:00:540:00:57

finally gets its act together and pushes south as a cold front.

0:00:570:01:00

So as the name suggests, behind it,

0:01:000:01:02

we will see colder weather working its way in.

0:01:020:01:05

During Monday, along the frontal band, we'll see

0:01:050:01:07

outbreaks of heavy rain sliding southwards across England and Wales.

0:01:070:01:10

Behind that rain band, that's where we get into that colder air

0:01:100:01:13

but that is also where we get to see some brightness,

0:01:130:01:16

some spells of sunshine developing.

0:01:160:01:18

Some showers, which could be wintry over high ground in the north-west.

0:01:180:01:21

Those temperatures dropping away, as the day goes on,

0:01:210:01:25

behind that weather front.

0:01:250:01:26

Now, as we move into Tuesday, this area

0:01:260:01:28

of high pressure tries to take a bit more control of the weather,

0:01:280:01:32

so Tuesday actually not a bad day in many places.

0:01:320:01:35

Could be a touch of frost,

0:01:350:01:36

particularly down towards the south on Tuesday morning.

0:01:360:01:39

Then we'll see some spells of sunshine,

0:01:390:01:40

but a two-pronged attack from weather systems,

0:01:400:01:43

one pushing in towards the south-west,

0:01:430:01:45

so there could be some here later in the day

0:01:450:01:47

and another weather system moving in towards the north-west.

0:01:470:01:49

That'll bring some heavy rain, we suspect,

0:01:490:01:51

across the north-west of Scotland.

0:01:510:01:53

And these two weather systems will essentially join

0:01:530:01:55

together during Tuesday night.

0:01:550:01:57

They will then slide southwards and eastwards and we get back into some

0:01:570:02:01

colder air, north-westerly winds bringing a drop in the temperatures.

0:02:010:02:06

But, once again,

0:02:060:02:07

with that cold air we should get to see some spells of sunshine.

0:02:070:02:12

But you will notice, at this stage on Wednesday,

0:02:120:02:14

quite a few showers as well, these showers wintry over high ground

0:02:140:02:17

towards the north-west, but perhaps even to fairly low levels

0:02:170:02:20

as the day goes on, especially the further north you are.

0:02:200:02:23

Quite a blustery day and single-digit temperatures for many.

0:02:230:02:26

And, as we move into Thursday, this area of low pressure,

0:02:260:02:29

which could actually bring some very strong winds indeed

0:02:290:02:31

in north-eastern areas, slides its way southwards and eastwards.

0:02:310:02:34

It leaves us with a north or north-westerly wind.

0:02:340:02:37

It's pretty cold weather across the country

0:02:370:02:39

but the showers should tend to fade at this stage.

0:02:390:02:42

We'll see more dry weather, more spells of sunshine,

0:02:420:02:45

highs of 6 to 8 Celsius.

0:02:450:02:46

Now, as we move towards the end of the week,

0:02:460:02:49

we'll continue to lose that cluster of showers as the area of low

0:02:490:02:52

pressure moves away

0:02:520:02:53

and then we bring a frontal system in from the west.

0:02:530:02:56

More cloud with that, outbreaks of rain, temporarily,

0:02:560:02:59

with the extra cloud, remember, some milder air.

0:02:590:03:02

So perhaps something a little bit milder for a time

0:03:020:03:04

into the start of next weekend.

0:03:040:03:06

Not as mild as it has been this weekend,

0:03:060:03:08

but hot on the heels of that brief incursion of milder air,

0:03:080:03:12

there is more cold air that will eventually head our way,

0:03:120:03:16

so generally speaking through next weekend,

0:03:160:03:18

we will see spells of rain at times.

0:03:180:03:20

With that, some milder air but some brighter periods too,

0:03:200:03:23

cold enough in those brighter spells for some wintry showers

0:03:230:03:26

and temperatures pretty variable over the next few days.
