There's plenty of rain in the forecast back home.

You may be tempted to journey further afield

in search of some warm sunshine.

And if you're heading to the Med, you're probably in good luck,

because despite the fact that over the last few weeks

it's been very disturbed with some stormy weather,

now things are settling down for the most part,

with some very pleasant autumn sunshine

for the likes of Turkey and Greece.

Temperatures approaching 20 degrees.

Similarly through the central Med, Italy, Sardinia, Corsica as well.

A few showers towards the north coast of Africa.

But out west, through the Balearics and into Spain and Portugal,

again, very pleasant.

And, well, 24 degrees in Seville is pretty good for the time of year.

Light winds for the most part, too,

and the generally fine and settled theme continues

across many of our southern European and Mediterranean resorts

as we go through the next few days.

Heading further north, not just settled, but still remarkably mild.

In fact, warm for Paris. 20 degrees on Saturday.

And here, it should stay fine with broken cloud.

Back towards the UK, as I mentioned, there's some rain to come

and that's the story through the Low Countries as well.

A quite active frontal system pushing its way west to east.

That unsettled but mild theme

continues across many north-western parts of Europe.

Still no sign of anything particularly cold

on the horizon just yet.

Now into North America, you'll notice a very sharp band of rain

pushing down through the Midwest and through the Mid-Atlantic states.

Warm ahead of that, but to the rear of that,

up towards the Upper Midwest and the Great Lakes,

some colder air flooding down from Canada.

And, in fact, we will see a drop in temperature

for the likes of New York and Washington

as we go through this weekend.

The rain clouds clear away, the sun comes out.

Some crisp sunshine on Sunday.

Out west, it's more disturbed across the Pacific Northwest,

in particular, with some wet weather at times through this weekend.

But further south, down through California, for example in LA,

the fine weather continues.

A mixed bag across Australasia.

Some showers out west affecting Perth at times.

Some showers down across parts of South Australia.

And also some showers across the Northern Territory.

In fact, some downpours could well affect the cricket at The Gabba.

29 degrees, so warm and humid,

and temperatures will be on the rise, as we'll see in a moment.

Some showers down across Victoria.

South Australian could catch one or two.

Now, temperatures across parts of Australia are feeling like summer.

Temperatures across New Zealand, well, more like spring at best

for the likes of Christchurch and Wellington - just 13 degrees.

But largely dry, though this weather front crossing the Tasman Sea

will bring some wetter weather in due course.

Back to the UK.

Yes, some wet weather and some quite strong winds at times

as we approach the weekend.

This is the picture for Friday. Not very pretty, is it?

Wet weather spreading across the country.

It won't last all day, mind you.

Following on behind,

we will see brighter skies with some late sunshine, hopefully,

just about getting into Cornwall, Pembrokeshire as well.

But, of course, the sun sets so soon these days

that it probably won't have a chance to brighten up

before it gets dark again

across other parts of the West Country and Wales.

Further west, still, though, for Northern Ireland,

you should see some sunshine.

A few sharp showers, mind you, as we close proceedings.

The rain pushing its way across Scotland.

One or two quite heavy bursts around, though, again,

it should eventually clear away in time for evening time.

And that's really the story down through the heart of England as well.

We will see a span of rain pushing west to east.

But if you've got a fireworks party planned, for example,

as we head into the evening time, the rain should have cleared away

and we should have broken cloud, I think, by then.

Doesn't last, though. Here's Saturday's picture.

Yet more rain sweeping across the country.

Some of that gets hooked up across Northern Ireland and Scotland.

Could prove quite persistent here, but brighter further south.

Bright start on Sunday, perhaps some early fog patches,

and then the next weather system comes in off the Atlantic.

Yet more rain and some pretty strong winds,

particularly across the more northern and western areas, but mild again.
