Hello, the UK's weather

is turning much colder for the weekend,

but that cold plunge is going to be felt

across a large part of Europe as well.

You can see the isobars lined up to the north

and again, that colder air

starting to filter its way southwards

with bands of wet weather

and some snow in places too.

That snow at higher elevations

into the Balkans and the Alps,

but at lower levels, the risk,

especially into the Balkans,

see the bright colours during Saturday,

some very heavy rain as well,

so a particularly disturbed picture once again

through central parts of the Mediterranean,

What you're not seeing here -

some very strong winds in places

and rough seas once again.

Still going into the start of the weekend,

some fairly warm air across southern parts of Spain,

but temperatures here are going to come down as well

as that cold air begins to move southwards.

So you can see there's going to be

a general drop in temperature.

Now, we move our way northwards

and certainly into France,

much of northern Europe, and that cold air

is in place for the weekend

and again, what you can't see

is quite a strong northerly wind as well,

so windchill is going to be a factor as well

and some of us, not necessarily

just into higher elevations,

are going to be seeing

some snow falling out of this,

so it is going to feel very different indeed

and that cold air hanging on

as we look into the picture for Sunday as well.

So single-figure temperatures

and, remember, feeling colder in the wind.

Quite a strong wind too with this weather system

pushing through central parts

of Canada and the USA,

as we look at the picture for Saturday.

To the east of that,

a weather front has moved through,

but it's still hanging around close to Florida,

so if you have got travel plans here,

there could be some further severe thunderstorms

and intense downpours

as we go through the weekend.

The risk of showers getting to New York on Sunday

but there will also be a fair amount of sunshine too,

but you can see in Miami,

that risk of thundery downpours

certainly continues throughout the weekend.

Look further west, though, and there is a lot of dry weather to be found

and a fair amount of sunshine too.

But a chill in Seattle at 7 degrees.

Nowhere near a chill for Australia,

because here, there is some intense heat

across parts of the south and south-east,

but a weather system coming in

is going to change that.

Darwin, a risk of showers

at 35 Celsius for Saturday.

Some spots in the south and south-east

getting close - well, above 40 Celsius,

the hotspots near 50,

but a significant change coming in

with this weather front

into the south-east,

temperatures will come down through the weekend.

New Zealand, well, we have got here

a band of wet weather stuck across North Island,

another pushing through South Island,

so there will be some wet weather

but some drier, sunnier moments too.

Let's get back to the UK.

A very wintry scene this weekend.

A significant windchill and strong northerly winds,

some snow around, not just on hills and a more widespread frost

on offer overnight than we have seen recently as well.

Let's take a look at things, then,

as we go from Friday into Saturday.

This is Friday's picture,

the cold air not quite in place

as we begin the day.

Southern England, maybe South Wales,

starting with rain, that clears away.

Bands of showers spreading down

across Scotland, Northern Ireland,

northern England, turning wintry on hills.

That is at the colder Arctic air

starts to move in,

so things are going to feel quite different

by the end of the day,

many of us down into single figures

and colder still

through Friday night and into Saturday.

This system running through Scotland

will give some snow

even to lower levels in places

but significant snow

in the Highland and Grampian regions.

Very strong winds for North Sea coasts,

60 to 70mph, could be disruptive.

Then we see some snowfall,

perhaps into even parts of south-east England

as Saturday begins.

Not expected to settle

but that will be a novelty.

Very strong winds for western coasts as well,

with showers wintry.

Part of Scotland, Northern Ireland,

Wales and south-west England.

But inland on Saturday,

you will see a lot of dry, sunny weather

in that crisp arctic air,

but you factor in the wind,

it is going to feel bitterly cold

compared with recent weather,

at or below freezing.

On Sunday, still that windchill,

still that strong northerly wind.

Coastal showers around again,

but inland, plenty of dry weather to come.
