will have a roundup of the other latest sports news. That is all with | :00:00. | :00:00.
me at 6:30pm. Now on BBC News, it is time for the film review. | :00:00. | :00:18.
Hello and welcome to the Film Review on BBC News. | :00:19. | :00:21.
To take us through this week's cinema releases is Jason Solomons. | :00:22. | :00:24.
We go intergalactic for the latest Marvel release. To make talking back | :00:25. | :00:45.
and save the world? Alan Rickman and Rebecca Hall have the evening | :00:46. | :00:52.
disrupted by a newcomer. In Igiebor, get your | :00:53. | :01:04.
`` in Mood Indigo get your quirk, devout to handle Audrey Tautou. We | :01:05. | :01:13.
can all do with a bit of escapism at this time of year. It is a Marvel | :01:14. | :01:23.
comic, not one I knew about, about space mercenaries who are chasing an | :01:24. | :01:28.
all around space. They get thrown into prison by the authorities. `` | :01:29. | :01:37.
orb. There is a talking raccoon. And also a talking tree. But not the | :01:38. | :01:43.
most wooden character in all of it. If we are going to get out of here, | :01:44. | :01:47.
we need to get into that watchtower. To do that, I need a | :01:48. | :01:51.
fusing. The guards where security bands. I need one. Leave it to me. | :01:52. | :02:01.
He has a prosthetic leg, I need it. His leg? Yes, goodness knows I don't | :02:02. | :02:08.
need the rest of him. All right. Do you see that blinking light? Yes. | :02:09. | :02:14.
There is a special battery behind it. To get into the watchtower I | :02:15. | :02:18.
definitely need it. How are we supposed to do that? Maybe you can | :02:19. | :02:23.
work out some sort of trade if you find you attractive. You must be | :02:24. | :02:28.
joking. No, I know he finds you attractive. It is impossible to get | :02:29. | :02:33.
up there without being seen. My plan is to get the battery, so figure it | :02:34. | :02:40.
out! One reviewer said just step on board for the ride. Is that a | :02:41. | :02:43.
suggestion which is challenging to do so? | :02:44. | :02:48.
For me it was challenging. From the first minute I knew this wasn't a | :02:49. | :02:51.
film I could get. A lot of people thought this was a whizbang, smart, | :02:52. | :02:56.
funny, hilarious space film. The budget is huge. | :02:57. | :03:03.
The budgets are all huge at the moment, without millions of dollars | :03:04. | :03:07.
you are nothing in the industry. There is a talking raccoons in it. | :03:08. | :03:13.
Played by Bradley Cooper. The interesting thing about that is he | :03:14. | :03:17.
just has to turn up, he does not have too sit through it. It didn't | :03:18. | :03:20.
have any morals, didn't have any meaning, there isn't really a plot, | :03:21. | :03:32.
they are chasing a space orb. It was supposed to be a comedy, nobody was | :03:33. | :03:36.
laughing. I have to say I hated every minute of it. A stupid | :03:37. | :03:40.
blockbuster. Is it one of those that the critics | :03:41. | :03:44.
don't like so much, but the public like it? | :03:45. | :03:47.
I think the public are going to like it. Some critics like it, I think it | :03:48. | :03:50.
is just me. Jason Solomons doesn't like it. | :03:51. | :03:56.
I am the guardian of taste this week, not the galaxy. | :03:57. | :03:58.
Let's have a look at the next one. Alan Rickman in this one. | :03:59. | :04:04.
Yes, with his best withering look. He plays the bass of an iron foundry | :04:05. | :04:09.
in Belgium on the eve of the First World War. He runs this iron | :04:10. | :04:13.
foundry, and he gets a young man to help him out. The young actor is | :04:14. | :04:26.
from game of thrones. He falls in love instantly with the mistress of | :04:27. | :04:30.
the house played by the lovely and beautiful Rebecca Hall. They begin | :04:31. | :04:34.
this romance which is unspoken, it is a listed, it isn't proper, it is | :04:35. | :04:39.
all about the letters, and all about the pent`up emotions. In between | :04:40. | :04:44.
this, the First World War inconveniently breaks out. Not that | :04:45. | :04:48.
they notice at all. The great War, one of the most atrocious events of | :04:49. | :04:52.
the last century happens, and all these two care about is that they | :04:53. | :04:56.
can write letters to each other, or what they are going to have for | :04:57. | :05:03.
dinner. It is directed by a French director, and this is his first film | :05:04. | :05:08.
in the English`language. He speaks quite good English, but he would not | :05:09. | :05:14.
know it from this film. There was no chemistry from Rebecca Hall, who is | :05:15. | :05:18.
actually a great actor. Alan Rickman is also a great actor, but he just | :05:19. | :05:23.
has no part to play in it. He is sort of emasculated from the start. | :05:24. | :05:27.
They never gets going. It lasts 95 minutes, but the end of it comes and | :05:28. | :05:31.
you feel like you have been there for four hours. | :05:32. | :05:36.
We are not doing very well. This is two out of three. Let's go to the | :05:37. | :05:40.
third one, Mood Indigo. If you have quirks, prepared to show | :05:41. | :05:46.
them now. The director gave us one of the most beautiful love stories | :05:47. | :05:51.
of all time recently, but he is an acquired taste some people haven't | :05:52. | :05:59.
acquired. He is at his most needing to be acquired moment with this | :06:00. | :06:04.
film. The title comes from Duke Ellington, it is a love story | :06:05. | :06:09.
between Romain Duris, one of the best French actors, and Audrey | :06:10. | :06:22.
Tautou, which we know from Amelie. It is a surreal film. From this | :06:23. | :06:26.
clip, you're about to see that they are going to get married. | :06:27. | :07:16.
You were chuckling away. When you laughing at it? | :07:17. | :07:25.
I was laughing with it. After five minutes this could make you run from | :07:26. | :07:27.
the cinema, even if you were watching it on an aeroplane from | :07:28. | :07:33.
30,000 feet. Some people will be put off it. It is zany. But it is better | :07:34. | :07:39.
than that. It is surreal, and I mean surreal in a proper art form. It | :07:40. | :07:47.
build a mood with its flying machines and strange performances. | :07:48. | :07:50.
It doesn't really have a plot, but it charts the love story between | :07:51. | :07:54.
Audrey Tautou and Romain Duris. It is true love but it blossoms and | :07:55. | :07:58.
Wilts. By the end, I was affected by it. I found it extremely clever, the | :07:59. | :08:04.
way it worked. Some of it was very funny. I know some people will be | :08:05. | :08:09.
completely turned off by it. There was a lot of philosophy throughout, | :08:10. | :08:13.
existentialism, funky musical, it never ceases, it is restless, every | :08:14. | :08:19.
single frame has something in it. That. `` funky music. | :08:20. | :08:30.
Has it gone on its merits, rather than its chemistry? | :08:31. | :08:34.
Romain Duris and Audrey Tautou, it still felt like love. I want to be | :08:35. | :08:40.
different from the reviews. He has taken you on a journey about the | :08:41. | :08:44.
colour of the film. It fades to black and white. She gets diagnosed | :08:45. | :08:48.
with a disease, and there is a flower growing on her lung. I found | :08:49. | :08:52.
it a beautiful image by the time the other images had corroborated in | :08:53. | :08:59.
your soul. This one crept into my heart and I thought it was gorgeous, | :09:00. | :09:03.
really, really good. I'm glad we have recovered the | :09:04. | :09:06.
situation from the first two. What is the best film out at the moment? | :09:07. | :09:14.
People keep asking me what is out. There are lots teenage blockbusters | :09:15. | :09:18.
out, not much else. We had is what I am recommending. It charts a boy | :09:19. | :09:40.
growing from six to 16. `` Boyhood. Is It Self`indulgent? | :09:41. | :09:46.
Not At All. It Is About Life Happening. There Are No Spaceships, | :09:47. | :09:50.
No Talking Raccoons, It Is About Life, Love, And People Growing. It | :09:51. | :09:55.
Works Like Magic. I Have Seen It Once. It Is Three Hours. It Is Lived | :09:56. | :10:01.
On. The Blood Talking About It Incessantly. People Who Have Seen It | :10:02. | :10:05.
Have Been Bowled Over By It. `` People Are Talking About It | :10:06. | :10:09.
Incessantly. You Can Get A Lot From This Film. | :10:10. | :10:15.
12 Years In Three Hours. Best Dvd? | :10:16. | :10:28.
It Is A Prison Drama. Jack O'connell Is An Inmate. He Is A Youth | :10:29. | :10:31.
Offender, But He Is So Brutal That He Gets Put Into An Adult Jail. It | :10:32. | :10:36.
Is Hard`hitting Stuff, But All The More Powerful For It. | :10:37. | :10:40.
Thank You Very Much For All Of That. Just A Quick Reminder. | :10:41. | :10:47.
You will find more online, including all of our previous shows. That is | :10:48. | :10:57.
it for this week, though, thank you very much for watching. Goodbye. | :10:58. | :11:07.
You might be tempted to go to the cinema. If you look behind me, there | :11:08. | :11:13.
is some rain forecast this weekend. It is already raining in some | :11:14. | :11:19.
places. The heavy stuff will turn up across the South | :11:20. | :11:21. |
