could be crowned champion were Lewis Hamilton to slip up. That is all to

:00:00.:00:00.

come on sports day at 630. Now it is time for the film review.

:00:00.:00:23.

Hello and welcome to the film review on BBC News, here to look through it

:00:24.:00:31.

with me at Hammersmith. Layla we have got Doctor strange, the new

:00:32.:00:36.

Marvel film, Benedict, church pays Doctor strange. Then we are going to

:00:37.:00:43.

Britain for a road trip comedy starring Laura Carmichael from

:00:44.:00:47.

Darlington Abbey, it is called Burn, burn, burn. Then finally we are off

:00:48.:00:52.

to South Korea for an Halloween horror, zombies on a train. There is

:00:53.:01:00.

a change of pace for Benedict Cumberbatch and Dominic strange.

:01:01.:01:06.

Yes, it is something common with the characters we have said before, he

:01:07.:01:10.

is an arrogant neurosurgeon, knows better than everybody else, he

:01:11.:01:14.

perhaps doesn't have so many airs and graces, reminds you of Sherlock

:01:15.:01:18.

and Allen during. He likes fast cars and he has an amazing array of fast

:01:19.:01:24.

watches, and he comes a cropper, when he has a car accident from

:01:25.:01:28.

driving too fast and he goes to seek new age help from the ancient one

:01:29.:01:33.

played by Tilda Swinton when he runs out of option by conventional

:01:34.:01:36.

medicine and there he finds a whole new world. I spent my last dollar

:01:37.:01:44.

getting here, one-way ticket and you are talking to me about healing

:01:45.:01:49.

through belief. You are a man looking at the world through a

:01:50.:01:53.

keyhole, you have tried your whole life to through the keyhole and now

:01:54.:01:57.

on hearing that it can be widened in ways you can't imagine, you reject

:01:58.:02:03.

the possibility. I because I do not believe in fairy tales about chakras

:02:04.:02:06.

or chakras or energy or the power of belief. There is no such thing. We

:02:07.:02:13.

are made of matter and nothing more. Just another tiny moment respect

:02:14.:02:19.

within an indifferent universe. You think too little of yourself stop

:02:20.:02:22.

you think you see through me but I see through you.

:02:23.:02:40.

What did you just do to me? I push all astral form out of your physical

:02:41.:02:54.

form. War is in the tea? Just T. How does it work, you can see Mr nasty

:02:55.:02:59.

character but I suppose if he did not believe that your astral thing

:03:00.:03:02.

could not be thrown out of your physical body he wouldn't go to that

:03:03.:03:08.

Doctor in the first place? It is a fantasy film but it is nice to see

:03:09.:03:16.

his arrogant character happen. You have two suspended, but that was a

:03:17.:03:22.

time and 1960s when psychedelia was invoked, that is a time when 3-D

:03:23.:03:26.

comes into its own. I'm not ready a fan of 3-D but we see some amazing

:03:27.:03:30.

other worlds and fractals and it gets trippy, the visual effects are

:03:31.:03:35.

second to none. Some people have compared it to, in the special

:03:36.:03:38.

effects to inception and the way that things get rolled up, that for

:03:39.:03:43.

me was the best bit of inception, just extraordinary? It is the best

:03:44.:03:46.

bit to be honest, watching these buildings folding

:03:47.:04:05.

into each other, pulled into a kaleidoscopic fashion, things have

:04:06.:04:07.

moved on, so it really is visually splendid. A little bit too much

:04:08.:04:09.

mumbo jumbo and waffle, there are some really long monologues and then

:04:10.:04:12.

they wake you up with a quip at the end. There was a bit of that, in

:04:13.:04:15.

inception to I seem to remember. Burn, burn, burn seems terrific.

:04:16.:04:18.

Yes, it is a UK road trip, I really like one of these charming films

:04:19.:04:21.

that took me by surprise, the debut director does a tremendous job,

:04:22.:04:26.

along with the writer. Laura Carmichael and Chloe Perry star as

:04:27.:04:30.

two women on their 20s, who go on a road trip around the UK, their

:04:31.:04:34.

friend has passed away and he has left his ashes to them on the

:04:35.:04:37.

understanding that they will take his ashes

:04:38.:04:50.

around the UK and stop that significant points, and play a

:04:51.:04:53.

little video of him, talking about why this is significant. He is quite

:04:54.:04:56.

a humorous character. Not only does humour come from that but also

:04:57.:04:58.

interactions, classic road trip style. And Laura Carmichael from

:04:59.:05:00.

downtown happy turns out to be funny, and somebody else from green

:05:01.:05:03.

Wing is in this. This is hilarious. He is a wise old hippie who seems

:05:04.:05:07.

wonderful after a few ciders but terrible with a hangover. There is a

:05:08.:05:14.

theme to these films, tea and cider. It is a gentle English Thelma and

:05:15.:05:19.

Louise? Thelma and Louise although with the generation now. It is ready

:05:20.:05:28.

sharp and funny. And this one? This is a really big hit in South Korea,

:05:29.:05:33.

it is a zombie horror movie, zombies on a train, simple as that, I liked

:05:34.:05:38.

it because it is nearly all from the point of view of two central

:05:39.:05:41.

characters, you have a work colleague Father who is getting

:05:42.:05:44.

divorced and his young daughter is very unhappy, she wants to see her

:05:45.:05:49.

mother, on her birthday so he says OK I will take you on the birthday

:05:50.:05:54.

to another town, and this will be a birthday not to forget because a

:05:55.:05:56.

zombie outbreak comes along. (ATMOSPHERIC NOISES) (SCREAMING)

:05:57.:06:46.

(SCREAMING) (SCREAMING) (ATMOSPHERIC NOISES) (SCREAMING) (SCREAMING) Wow,

:06:47.:07:07.

I liked the idea of people being trapped on the train. I have been on

:07:08.:07:12.

some rough train journeys but... There is a lot of attention, you

:07:13.:07:16.

have the disaster movie format where a certain group of people in an

:07:17.:07:20.

enclosed space, they come together as they had to deal with an

:07:21.:07:24.

emergency. It focuses more on the human reactions than the zombies

:07:25.:07:28.

themselves, it is about how people focus on a crisis and how selfish

:07:29.:07:33.

this probably isn't the way to go and it is promoting kindness and

:07:34.:07:36.

group activities and understanding, that, there are things which are a

:07:37.:07:41.

bit over the top. The selfish guy, you never how that will end up.

:07:42.:07:46.

There is a pregnant woman, and there is the cute kid and the baseball

:07:47.:07:50.

team. But do you know what, it is re-well done and suspenseful. And

:07:51.:07:56.

you can also just see, the way it is done, because South Korea is quite

:07:57.:08:00.

clinical and clean and so on, it is a very different media from the

:08:01.:08:06.

horror films which have the Gothic thing. Guess it is quite a light and

:08:07.:08:11.

bright rush-hour horror but no less gripping. The best Korean film that

:08:12.:08:15.

you would see all week? I would think so. The hunt for the world of

:08:16.:08:21.

people, is your favourite. Great Kiwi comedy drama, action thrown in,

:08:22.:08:26.

Sam Neill stars as the grumpy foster uncle, he ends up in the wilderness

:08:27.:08:31.

with his young charge. Odd couple in the wilderness, and these two are

:08:32.:08:34.

very different, they learn how to get along, but it is so funny, the

:08:35.:08:39.

director does a terrific job and he has summoned some of the humour.

:08:40.:08:43.

From the flight of the Concordes. Rather quirky. I think the thing

:08:44.:08:48.

that is very, very funny about this is the child protection services

:08:49.:08:54.

lady who is this complete monster throughout the whole film? She has

:08:55.:08:57.

got a slightly more surreal edge, they have this thing about her being

:08:58.:09:04.

the terminator. She appears everywhere going no child left

:09:05.:09:10.

behind. But the relationship, is terrific. He is the sort of slightly

:09:11.:09:18.

podgy, very un-fit city kid who likes hip-hop music and he ends up

:09:19.:09:22.

in the middle of a field, it is the bush. But it is a very, very clever

:09:23.:09:31.

relationship with a clever script. I loved it, it is still going, it is a

:09:32.:09:35.

good group movie, a nice want to see with the crowd. It won the audience

:09:36.:09:42.

award in Edinburgh. And your DVD of the week is the commune? This is set

:09:43.:09:49.

in 1970s Copenhagen. This is slightly lighter than some of his

:09:50.:09:54.

other work body starts two fantastic actors, who play a couple who have

:09:55.:09:58.

decided to open up the home to make a commune and it is about the group

:09:59.:10:02.

dynamic and the consequences of living as a group. It is not as much

:10:03.:10:07.

bed-hopping as you might imagine but it start as quite light and fun,

:10:08.:10:10.

with a jaunty soundtrack and it becomes more

:10:11.:10:25.

poignant and interesting as the cracks begin to show. The cracks

:10:26.:10:27.

begin to show and people assert their personalities. Yes and the

:10:28.:10:29.

permissiveness that it ushers in has consequences on the marriages. And

:10:30.:10:31.

another interested footnote is that Denmark was voted the happiest

:10:32.:10:33.

country on earth with Britain coming in in 23rd, I'm not sure where the

:10:34.:10:37.

commune comes in. Thank you very much. A quick reminder, you will

:10:38.:10:42.

find more film reviews and news including all of our previous shows.

:10:43.:10:50.

That is it for this week, thanks for watching, enjoy the news. Goodbye.

:10:51.:11:02.

Time for your weekend weather outlook, increasing amounts of

:11:03.:11:07.

cloud, probably parts
