Today's Blue Peter is all about space,

6:00:346:00:36

so I've come up to the cosmos for a bit of peace and quiet.

6:00:366:00:39

Radzi, really? That's not even believable!

6:00:396:00:42

Linds, you're right. It really is calm up here.

6:00:426:00:44

-Wait, Radz, if you're here...

-Yeah?

6:00:446:00:46

..then who's that?

6:00:466:00:47

-Aargh!

-Run!

6:00:476:00:48

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

6:01:036:01:05

-BOTH:

-Hello.

6:01:056:01:07

Welcome to this live Blue Peter space spectacular,

6:01:076:01:10

with so much intergalactic goodness, you won't believe it.

6:01:106:01:12

Nicely said. Check this out - there is so much

6:01:126:01:15

coming up on today's show!

6:01:156:01:17

There I am in slow-mo,

6:01:176:01:18

about to take on an incredible Blue Peter space challenge.

6:01:186:01:22

Tim Peake will be landing to Earth very, very soon,

6:01:226:01:25

so to tell us about his out-of-this-world adventure

6:01:256:01:27

is space expert Libby Jackson.

6:01:276:01:30

As well as that, we are joined by another friend in the studio.

6:01:306:01:33

Kelvin Jones is going to be here

6:01:336:01:34

with a brilliant starry-eyed performance.

6:01:346:01:37

And we are live, so we want to hear from you.

6:01:376:01:39

I've got a question for you - if you could blast off into space

6:01:396:01:42

and only take one thing, what would it be and why?

6:01:426:01:45

-And why?

-Jump onto the Blue Peter...

6:01:456:01:47

-You forgot! And why?

-We'll go again.

-BOTH:

-And why?

6:01:476:01:50

Jump onto the Blue Peter website, leave a comment

6:01:506:01:52

and we'll read as many as we can.

6:01:526:01:54

However, I also want to talk about this young lady.

6:01:546:01:56

-Where did she come from?

-My back is where she came from. Shelley.

6:01:566:01:59

Where's she? She ain't here any more. You've got to find her.

6:01:596:02:02

-You got to find her.

-Jump on the fan club to let us know.

6:02:026:02:04

Speaking of Shelley, have a look at this little 3D Shelley.

6:02:046:02:07

You may remember that last week you chose to send her into space.

6:02:076:02:11

-That actual one?

-You can hold her. She's been into space.

6:02:116:02:13

Touch her. How amazing is that?

6:02:136:02:16

So, we are so excited by that, that the moment is here.

6:02:166:02:19

Leah from Newsround went to see

6:02:196:02:21

where she landed on her incredible journey.

6:02:216:02:23

I'm in Sheffield today and we're about to do something amazing.

6:02:266:02:30

We're going to send Shelley into space and film it,

6:02:306:02:32

and these guys are going to help us do it.

6:02:326:02:34

Meet Alex and Chris,

6:02:366:02:37

experts at sending special weather balloons into space.

6:02:376:02:41

And this one is unique because Shelley will be hitching a ride!

6:02:416:02:45

First, they fill the balloon with a gas called helium,

6:02:456:02:48

the very same gas that's used in party balloons to make them rise.

6:02:486:02:52

Next, they set up a special camera rig,

6:02:546:02:56

so that we can join Shelley for her epic journey.

6:02:566:03:00

And when the balloon is inflated, it's time to launch.

6:03:006:03:03

Three, two, one.

6:03:036:03:06

Go into space, Shelley!

6:03:066:03:08

And there she goes!

6:03:086:03:10

As soon as Shelley takes to the skies,

6:03:106:03:13

Leah and the team hit the road to track her, using GPS technology.

6:03:136:03:17

How fast will Shelley be moving?

6:03:176:03:20

At the moment, maybe up to, you know, 80 to 100mph.

6:03:206:03:24

But as well as going up, she's also drifting east.

6:03:246:03:27

We are currently over here, so she's travelled all the way over to there.

6:03:276:03:31

How many miles would that have been?

6:03:316:03:33

-I don't know, about 20, 30 miles, maybe?

-That's incredible.

6:03:336:03:37

The only thing is, if she drifts too far,

6:03:376:03:40

she could end up landing in the sea.

6:03:406:03:42

After one hour in the air, Shelley is now at the same height

6:03:436:03:46

as a jet plane flies, and she just keeps on going.

6:03:466:03:50

Yeah, so she's currently at a height of 18.5km.

6:03:526:03:56

And finally, she's so high up,

6:03:576:03:59

she's no longer in the Earth's atmosphere.

6:03:596:04:02

So, guys, this is incredible. Shelley is officially in space.

6:04:026:04:07

She's made it. This is absolutely brilliant.

6:04:076:04:10

Shelley eventually reaches over 28,000 metres high.

6:04:106:04:16

Only Tim Peake and the five other astronauts

6:04:166:04:19

aboard the International Space Station are above her!

6:04:196:04:22

But as Shelley climbs higher,

6:04:226:04:24

the change in pressure causes her weather balloon to burst.

6:04:246:04:28

And she begins her journey back to Earth, reaching over 200mph.

6:04:306:04:36

The race is really on for Leah and the team

6:04:366:04:38

to get to Shelley's landing site in time.

6:04:386:04:41

Oh, look!

6:04:436:04:45

There's just the small matter of surviving the landing.

6:04:466:04:50

There we go. Shelley's in one piece.

6:04:536:04:55

So that's how our Shelley went to space and back in just one day.

6:04:566:05:02

And let's not forget, it's all thanks to you!

6:05:026:05:05

I just think that is one of the coolest things

6:05:066:05:08

ever on Blue Peter, to send little 3D Shelley into space.

6:05:086:05:11

It's so amazing! But here on Blue Peter,

6:05:116:05:13

we're not the only ones to send something into space,

6:05:136:05:15

because our fellow musician has sent this, a TV set,

6:05:156:05:19

actually into space, for one of his latest videos.

6:05:196:05:22

He's the coolest guy ever. Please welcome Kelvin Jones!

6:05:226:05:24

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

6:05:246:05:27

I like that - clapping yourself. Kelvin, welcome to Blue Peter.

6:05:276:05:29

-Thanks.

-Well done on getting the badge.

6:05:296:05:31

Now, your video for Call You Home - I mean, that was epic.

6:05:316:05:34

Tell us a little bit about it.

6:05:346:05:35

I came up with this crazy idea of sending an actual TV

6:05:356:05:38

-into actual space and somehow we did it.

-And it just looks amazing.

6:05:386:05:42

-It got three million views online, didn't it, which is awesome.

-Yeah.

6:05:426:05:45

You've been really busy.

6:05:456:05:46

You been touring - European tour with James Morrison, who we love.

6:05:466:05:49

-I bet that was brilliant.

-Insane good fun. Insane good fun.

6:05:496:05:52

-So what's next for you?

-I'm going to be doing the smaller thing,

6:05:526:05:54

playing in people's living rooms. I'm going to do a living room tour.

6:05:546:05:57

-That sounds amazing.

-Crazy.

6:05:576:05:59

Well, you can perform here for us later to start off that tour, maybe.

6:05:596:06:02

-Tell us what you're performing.

-My song called Call You Home.

6:06:026:06:05

Oh, we cannot wait for that.

6:06:056:06:07

Now, as it's Space Week, we've got a little treat,

6:06:076:06:09

so do you want to walk this way with me? Cue the music.

6:06:096:06:12

-MUSIC: Rocket Man by Elton John

-Nice.

6:06:126:06:14

Having a bit of a laugh there, and that's because, six weeks ago,

6:06:146:06:17

we planted these rocket seeds as part

6:06:176:06:20

of the Royal Horticultural Society's big space experiment.

6:06:206:06:23

Now, some of these have been into space with Tim Peake. Some haven't.

6:06:236:06:26

-We don't...

-Which ones?

-I knew you were going to ask that!

6:06:266:06:29

We don't know which are which but some of them

6:06:296:06:31

-are getting on better than others.

-That one's been to space.

6:06:316:06:33

-You reckon? You think red?

-That's been to space.

6:06:336:06:36

That one's been to space. That one specifically.

6:06:366:06:38

-I've got a nose for it.

-You've got a good feeling about this rocket!

6:06:386:06:41

Well, if your performance is good later, you can have a taste, maybe.

6:06:416:06:44

Thanks, yeah. Maybe not.

6:06:446:06:46

OK, you go over there and prep for your performance.

6:06:466:06:48

Cannot wait for that.

6:06:486:06:49

And speaking of space experiments,

6:06:496:06:51

Tim Peake has been doing loads recently and, to find out why

6:06:516:06:54

they are so important, I went on a very special Blue Peter challenge.

6:06:546:06:58

For almost six months, British astronaut Tim Peake

6:07:076:07:10

has called the International Space Station home.

6:07:106:07:13

And Blue Peter has been with him every step of the way,

6:07:156:07:18

from Troy's winning mission patch...

6:07:186:07:20

Oh, wow! That's amazing!

6:07:206:07:22

..to catching up with Tim's adventures.

6:07:226:07:25

Hello, Barney, and hi to Blue Peter.

6:07:256:07:27

When he's not talking to us, he's been doing

6:07:276:07:30

loads of experiments to see how living in space affects his body.

6:07:306:07:34

So to experience what life is like for Tim,

6:07:356:07:38

I'm going to need to spend some time in space.

6:07:386:07:41

The problem is,

6:07:416:07:42

I'm struggling to find the International Space Station.

6:07:426:07:45

And cut!

6:07:456:07:46

It's not really working, is it? No.

6:07:486:07:51

OK, I can't go into space but there is a way of experiencing

6:07:536:07:57

a big part of it without even leaving the Earth's atmosphere.

6:07:576:08:01

To do it, I've had to travel to France,

6:08:016:08:03

because this special plane can recreate weightlessness.

6:08:036:08:07

We've all seen Tim and other astronauts floating in space

6:08:086:08:12

but what causes this to happen?

6:08:126:08:14

Well, it's all to do with falling.

6:08:156:08:18

Here comes the science.

6:08:196:08:20

The Earth's gravity pulls everything towards its surface,

6:08:226:08:25

including the International Space Station.

6:08:256:08:28

But, because the space station is travelling

6:08:296:08:31

so fast around our planet, its fall matches the curve of the Earth -

6:08:316:08:36

and that's what stops it dropping to the ground.

6:08:366:08:38

Just like the space station, the astronauts inside are falling

6:08:386:08:42

at the same speed, and this makes everything appear to float.

6:08:426:08:46

And that's where this plane comes in.

6:08:476:08:50

It's going to perform a series of steep climbs and descents.

6:08:506:08:54

Every time the plane goes over the peak of the curve, everyone

6:08:546:08:57

and everything on board will start to float, just like Tim does.

6:08:576:09:01

From the outside, it looks like any other plane.

6:09:046:09:08

Just like on the inside -

6:09:086:09:10

until you realise that the other half of the plane

6:09:106:09:12

is a massive padded room and it's through there

6:09:126:09:15

that I'll get to experience weightlessness.

6:09:156:09:18

I am so excited!

6:09:186:09:19

But before I get to fly, there's some important work to do.

6:09:216:09:24

Weightlessness can cause big changes to astronauts and their kit,

6:09:256:09:29

so this plane is used to find out how space affects them.

6:09:296:09:33

So I'm going to be joined by this group of scientists,

6:09:346:09:37

who are all busy preparing all the experiments

6:09:376:09:39

that they need to take up and test during the flight.

6:09:396:09:43

Ulric's team are the only ones on board who are going to be

6:09:436:09:46

conducting a test on the human body during the flight.

6:09:466:09:50

We are doing an experiment on the heart,

6:09:506:09:52

because the heart and the vessels

6:09:526:09:54

do not work the same way in space as they do on ground.

6:09:546:09:59

Christina's team are testing a new robot.

6:09:596:10:03

It will take the soil from an asteroid

6:10:036:10:06

and keep it into a canister,

6:10:066:10:09

so scientists can bring the canister back to Earth to study it.

6:10:096:10:14

With the experiments prepped, it's time for me to get ready.

6:10:156:10:18

Before we take off, there's one final thing left to do,

6:10:206:10:24

because this isn't going to be like any other flight.

6:10:246:10:28

Some people call it the Vomit Comet and that's because I think

6:10:286:10:31

it can make you pretty sick, so I've come to visit the medical team.

6:10:316:10:35

They've got a little injection to put in my arm

6:10:356:10:37

and hopefully that will mean I won't throw up.

6:10:376:10:40

Wish me luck!

6:10:406:10:41

Ooh!

6:10:426:10:43

When you become a Blue Peter presenter, these are the days,

6:10:456:10:49

these are the moments, that you actually dream about.

6:10:496:10:52

This is what it's all about, because very soon I'm about to feel

6:10:526:10:55

exactly what Tim Peake feels when he's up there in space.

6:10:556:11:00

It's so special, and I cannot wait!

6:11:006:11:03

Part two of that will be later on in the show

6:11:056:11:08

and you do not want to miss that, so keep watching.

6:11:086:11:11

So we know that Tim Peake's been in space for six months

6:11:116:11:14

and we know he's returning on June the 18th,

6:11:146:11:17

but how's he going to do that?

6:11:176:11:18

Well, to answer that question,

6:11:186:11:19

would you please welcome to Blue Peter space expert Libby Jackson!

6:11:196:11:23

-Libby, welcome to Blue Peter.

-Thank you very much.

6:11:236:11:26

I'm very excited, because you've actually worked with

6:11:266:11:28

Tim Peake since 2009, when he first got selected to be an astronaut.

6:11:286:11:32

You saw him take off. How were you feeling?

6:11:326:11:34

It was a really emotional day.

6:11:346:11:35

It was wonderful to see him go up and it's been wonderful

6:11:356:11:38

to see him in space, inspiring so many kids throughout his mission.

6:11:386:11:41

And in terms of the steps he'll take to come back to Earth,

6:11:416:11:43

what will he go through?

6:11:436:11:44

The first thing he'll do, he'll hug and say goodbye

6:11:446:11:47

to the three crewmates who are staying up there.

6:11:476:11:49

He'll get into the Soyuz spacecraft - that's the capsule

6:11:496:11:52

that's going to bring him home. We can see them doing that.

6:11:526:11:54

Then he'll put on his Sokol spacesuit,

6:11:546:11:56

which is the spacesuit to protect him on his way back.

6:11:566:11:58

The spacecraft's going to drift away from the space station

6:11:586:12:01

and then it takes about 3½ hours to get home.

6:12:016:12:03

So we can see it starting... Only 3½ hours?

6:12:036:12:06

3½ hours is a pretty quick journey.

6:12:066:12:07

That really is unbe... Is it dangerous?

6:12:076:12:09

Well, of course it is, because we're in space and in space,

6:12:096:12:12

there's no atmosphere, so that journey back...

6:12:126:12:14

He's going to be in the capsule.

6:12:146:12:16

If that were to suddenly depressurise and he found

6:12:166:12:18

-himself in no air, couldn't breathe, had some problems...

-Wow!

6:12:186:12:21

We've got marshmallows, to show you what might happen.

6:12:216:12:23

Before we talk about the marshmallows,

6:12:236:12:25

we've got our very own Blue Peter spaceman.

6:12:256:12:27

Bjorn, in you come, my friend.

6:12:276:12:28

Coming in slow motion, cos he's currently walking in the moon.

6:12:286:12:31

-This is a genuine space outfit?

-This is a genuine space outfit.

6:12:316:12:35

It's the Sokol suit. This is what Tim will wear when he comes home,

6:12:356:12:37

to make sure that if there were any problems, he'd be kept safe.

6:12:376:12:40

Amazing. Bjorn, thank you. Can you spacewalk off?

6:12:406:12:43

-Give this man a round of applause!

-CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

6:12:436:12:46

And I guess this is where the marshmallow man comes in?

6:12:466:12:48

-Yes, indeed.

-So earlier on, we had an experiment where we decompress -

6:12:486:12:53

-is that right? - or depressurised marshmallow man.

-We did.

6:12:536:12:56

We basically put him in this pressure chamber,

6:12:566:12:58

we sucked all the air out and we saw what would happen, and that's

6:12:586:13:01

a little bit like what would happen if Tim were to have some problems.

6:13:016:13:04

-OK, that looks like a big problem.

-It is.

6:13:046:13:06

Now, we're not made of marshmallows, fortunately,

6:13:066:13:09

so we wouldn't expand like that, but we would not be able to breathe.

6:13:096:13:13

All the gases in our blood would start to boil.

6:13:136:13:15

It wouldn't be a good day

6:13:156:13:16

and that's why we've got Tim wearing a spacesuit.

6:13:166:13:18

We've got lots of people making sure everything is as safe

6:13:186:13:21

as it can be and hopefully, he'll get home in one piece.

6:13:216:13:24

-Absolutely, he will.

-Yes.

-Now, going back to the journey...

-Absolutely.

6:13:246:13:27

It's now left the space station - what happens next?

6:13:276:13:30

So, just before they re-enter the Earth's atmosphere,

6:13:306:13:33

their spacecraft splits into three pieces,

6:13:336:13:35

so there's a bit in the middle, which we can see here.

6:13:356:13:38

That's where Tim and his crew are going to be sitting,

6:13:386:13:40

in this middle part. The other bits were only needed in space.

6:13:406:13:43

So this part is what plunges back through the atmosphere.

6:13:436:13:46

At the moment, they're going at 17,500 mph,

6:13:466:13:49

28,000kph.

6:13:496:13:52

-No!

-That's 30 times the speed of a jumbo jet.

-That's unbelievable!

6:13:526:13:56

They'll de-orbit, they'll fire their thruster to slow down,

6:13:566:13:58

they'll re-enter the Earth's atmosphere, and as they do that,

6:13:586:14:01

they slam into all these hot gases

6:14:016:14:04

and the spacecraft heats up. It gets to 2,000 Celsius.

6:14:046:14:08

-2,000 degrees Celsius?

-So the spacecraft's really clever.

6:14:086:14:11

To make sure that they don't burn up, they don't get into problems,

6:14:116:14:14

it's got all these layers, and they fall off one by one.

6:14:146:14:17

Keeps the spacecraft cool.

6:14:176:14:18

Once it's burst through the atmosphere,

6:14:186:14:20

then they're back into Earth's atmosphere.

6:14:206:14:23

The parachutes open and they gently descend back to Earth.

6:14:236:14:25

Look at that ex... Look at that crash, though. Is that a...

6:14:256:14:28

Whoa! What's going on there?

6:14:286:14:30

That's not an explosion.

6:14:306:14:32

That's actually some thrusters, some rocket engines, firing,

6:14:326:14:35

one second before they land, to slow the descent even more,

6:14:356:14:38

to try and make it as gentle as possible.

6:14:386:14:40

So when you say one second, how far is that?

6:14:406:14:42

It's about 70 centimetres before the spacecraft hits the ground,

6:14:426:14:45

the rocket engines fire.

6:14:456:14:47

-So that much before the they hit the Earth's surface?

-Indeed.

-Wow!

6:14:476:14:50

But even with those rocket engines, even with all that,

6:14:506:14:53

it's still a real thud and the astronauts describe it

6:14:536:14:55

as being a bit like in a small car crash.

6:14:556:14:59

I don't really fancy that any more!

6:14:596:15:00

When you've been in space for six months, you're weak.

6:15:006:15:03

Your first taste of gravity is like that slam.

6:15:036:15:05

-It's quite a rollercoaster ride.

-OK. And so in terms of getting...

6:15:056:15:08

-Could he just get out and walk around?

-We hope he can.

6:15:086:15:10

He's been training every day for two hours a day to make sure

6:15:106:15:13

his bones and muscles are as strong as they can be.

6:15:136:15:15

That's him doing the London Marathon.

6:15:156:15:17

That's him doing the marathon.

6:15:176:15:18

But even with that, he's still weaker. But we'll see him...

6:15:186:15:21

When he comes back to Earth, we'll see him carried out of that capsule.

6:15:216:15:24

That's not necessarily because he's weak,

6:15:246:15:26

it's because it's a sign of honour and the Russians...

6:15:266:15:28

He's flying in a Russian spacecraft.

6:15:286:15:30

It's their tradition that they help the spacecraft...

6:15:306:15:33

The space crew out of the capsule, put them in seats,

6:15:336:15:36

so we'll see him carried out. It's a sign of honour and tradition.

6:15:366:15:38

It'll be an absolute privilege to see that.

6:15:386:15:40

Somebody who knows just how that feels is

6:15:406:15:42

somebody who's a part of the UK Space Agency,

6:15:426:15:44

the first-ever British astronaut in space, Helen Sharman.

6:15:446:15:48

Can you hear us at all, Helen?

6:15:486:15:50

I'm here, listening to everything that's happening. Great to hear you!

6:15:506:15:53

Well, likewise and, Helen, obviously,

6:15:536:15:55

Tim's following in your footsteps.

6:15:556:15:57

-How awesome was it to see him take off?

-Oh, a fabulous day, wasn't it?

6:15:576:16:00

I mean, for 25 years, since my space flight, we've been waiting.

6:16:006:16:03

I think many people...

6:16:036:16:05

We've all been waiting for another British astronaut.

6:16:056:16:07

So finally, we've got one - better late than never -

6:16:076:16:09

and he's doing a fantastic job.

6:16:096:16:11

How is it different to the mission that you did,

6:16:116:16:13

as you say, 25 years ago?

6:16:136:16:14

Well, the whole set-up was different.

6:16:146:16:16

Mine was an agreement between Britain and the Soviet Union,

6:16:166:16:19

or Russia now. Tim is a European Space Agency astronaut,

6:16:196:16:22

but he still flew on a Soyuz rocket, like I did, and he's landing

6:16:226:16:25

in a Soyuz spacecraft, so very similar to the way that I landed.

6:16:256:16:28

We've been talking to Libby about what it's going to feel like

6:16:286:16:30

entering the Earth's atmosphere again.

6:16:306:16:32

You've done it. What does that feel like?

6:16:326:16:35

It is actually physically harder than the launch.

6:16:356:16:38

So we have 5.5G coming back to Earth.

6:16:386:16:41

We only have 3.5 going up into space,

6:16:416:16:43

so the astronauts will feel really heavy.

6:16:436:16:46

You're pushed back into your seat.

6:16:466:16:47

Even lifting up your arm is incredibly difficult to do that,

6:16:476:16:50

because your arm weighs, you know,

6:16:506:16:52

5.5 times as much as it does normally on Earth, so compared

6:16:526:16:55

to feeling weightless, it's an incredibly strenuous exercise to do.

6:16:556:17:01

It doesn't last very long and, as Libby's saying,

6:17:016:17:03

when you actually hit the ground, that is a really...

6:17:036:17:06

A bit of a bang and a bump,

6:17:066:17:07

and of all the accidents that happen to astronauts, that's the one

6:17:076:17:10

where we tend to get a bit more battered and bruised a little bit.

6:17:106:17:13

Helen, thank you so much for your time.

6:17:136:17:15

I imagine it was a completely life-changing experience.

6:17:156:17:17

Lovely to talk to you.

6:17:176:17:19

Libby, also, what an absolute privilege it's been to talk

6:17:196:17:22

-to yourself.

-Pleasure.

6:17:226:17:23

Can I go one extra step? We've got some space posters to show you -

6:17:236:17:26

-do you want to come and see them?

-I'd love to.

-Let's walk and talk.

6:17:266:17:29

Come on over, guys, because this week's Big Badge Wall

6:17:296:17:32

is looking quite literally out of this world.

6:17:326:17:34

The colours, the shapes are amazing.

6:17:346:17:35

This one is brilliant. It's from Josh, who is 11, from West Sussex.

6:17:356:17:39

It's a nice little pic of Tim Peake. I think quite lifelike, Libby.

6:17:396:17:42

-Very lifelike. He's looking very handsome.

-I think it's good.

6:17:426:17:45

And, of course, the amazing Principia badge there.

6:17:456:17:47

You've earned yourself a blue badge. Well done, Josh.

6:17:476:17:50

Now, Wilf from Manchester sent in this awesome rocket.

6:17:506:17:54

-Libby, do you like it?

-I love it. It's brilliant!

6:17:546:17:56

It's got a name on the front there.

6:17:566:17:58

Down the bottom, we've got all the fire and flames coming out.

6:17:586:18:01

It looks like something I think I'd be happy to go into space on.

6:18:016:18:04

-It's huge!

-Enormous!

-Impressive, isn't it?

6:18:046:18:06

Thanks to every one of you who sent in post on the Big Badge Wall.

6:18:066:18:09

You got yourselves a BP badge, my friends.

6:18:096:18:10

Now, it is the half-term holiday soon - I'm excited, I know you are -

6:18:106:18:13

and if you've got a Blue Peter badge, you'll be excited to know

6:18:136:18:16

you can get into over 200 attractions across the UK, Radz...

6:18:166:18:19

# For free! #

6:18:196:18:21

Which is exciting. But those attractions can change sometimes,

6:18:216:18:24

so make sure you grab a grown-up and just check all the details

6:18:246:18:27

on our website, cos you want to have a good half-term, right?

6:18:276:18:30

Also, a massive thank you to everyone who entered

6:18:306:18:32

the Dream Big competition.

6:18:326:18:33

Check this out - 8,420 of you have applied.

6:18:336:18:38

-Amazing.

-However, the closing date has now passed,

6:18:386:18:40

so please do not enter any more.

6:18:406:18:41

But we will be announcing the winner shortly.

6:18:416:18:43

Also, speaking of half term,

6:18:436:18:45

if you want to have some fun on the computer, you can go online

6:18:456:18:47

because there's a nice little space quiz there.

6:18:476:18:49

You can test which planet you are the most like.

6:18:496:18:52

It's going to be good fun. Speaking of fun,

6:18:526:18:53

now on to something amazing because earlier,

6:18:536:18:56

you saw me prepare for my space adventure,

6:18:566:18:59

but this is what happened the actual moment I experienced weightlessness.

6:18:596:19:03

I've travelled to France to experience something

6:19:066:19:09

I've only ever dreamed about - weightlessness.

6:19:096:19:11

This is as close as any human being can get

6:19:136:19:16

to feeling like Tim Peake without going into space.

6:19:166:19:19

Very few people get to do this,

6:19:216:19:23

so I'm incredibly lucky to have a ticket.

6:19:236:19:26

My heart is beating.

6:19:296:19:31

Seatbelt's on. No going back. This is it.

6:19:316:19:35

Aargh!

6:19:356:19:36

This special plane is going to climb steeply,

6:19:426:19:44

before dropping towards Earth.

6:19:446:19:46

It will happen around 30 times and every time it does,

6:19:466:19:50

everyone on board will experience weightlessness.

6:19:506:19:53

As soon as we're up in the air, we start to get into position

6:19:546:19:57

and lie down in the padded area of the plane.

6:19:576:20:01

You can feel the excitement in here.

6:20:016:20:03

I really don't know what to expect, but...

6:20:036:20:06

..this is just going to be amazing.

6:20:076:20:09

The time has arrived.

6:20:116:20:12

The scientists are ready and the plane begins its steep climb.

6:20:126:20:16

Oh, my heart! You would not believe how fast it's beating.

6:20:166:20:20

Oh, wow! Oh, I feel heavy.

6:20:206:20:23

'And then we start to drop.'

6:20:236:20:26

Oh, my goodness! Oh, my goodness!

6:20:266:20:28

Oh, wow. Wow, wow, wow.

6:20:286:20:31

I'm starting to float.

6:20:316:20:32

'I had no idea what to expect but this is utterly incredible!'

6:20:326:20:37

Whoa! I'm floating! Oh, my goodness!

6:20:376:20:41

What do I do?

6:20:416:20:42

This is the most ama...

6:20:426:20:44

I'm floating! This is the weirdest feeling!

6:20:456:20:49

Oh, wow!

6:20:496:20:51

That was the most bizarre feeling of my life.

6:20:526:20:56

'On my next go, I start to get the hang of it,

6:20:566:20:59

'with a bit of help from the team on board.'

6:20:596:21:02

Let's walk on the ceiling! Whoa! Look at this!

6:21:026:21:06

I'm walking on the ceiling.

6:21:066:21:08

Waargh! Should I do a flip?

6:21:086:21:12

SHE SCREAMS AND CHUCKLES

6:21:126:21:14

Oh, my goodness!

6:21:146:21:16

This is the most ridiculous feeling of my life!

6:21:196:21:22

Whoo!

6:21:246:21:26

OK, I'm going to try and swim.

6:21:266:21:28

'It's so fun, but it doesn't last forever.'

6:21:306:21:32

Oh, dear!

6:21:326:21:34

'Each period of weightlessness lasts around 25 seconds -

6:21:356:21:39

'just enough time for the scientists to carry out their experiments.

6:21:396:21:43

'Things seem to be going well for Ulric and his team,

6:21:436:21:46

'who are looking at what happens to the heart and blood vessels

6:21:466:21:49

'when someone is weightless.'

6:21:496:21:50

It's going really great, smooth.

6:21:506:21:52

-We get good images.

-So you're happy with all the results so far?

6:21:526:21:56

Yeah, we are happy so far.

6:21:566:21:58

'Christina's team, who are testing a robot that could

6:21:586:22:01

'land on an asteroid, are still getting the hang of the conditions.'

6:22:016:22:05

-Very strange doing science with weightlessness.

-Yeah, I bet!

6:22:056:22:09

-But are you having fun?

-A lot of fun.

-Ooh, you're going over there!

6:22:096:22:13

-You have no choice where you go, do you?

-I'm sorry!

6:22:136:22:15

'It will take a few weeks until the scientists get the results back.

6:22:176:22:20

'In the meantime, I've got some very important, er,

6:22:206:22:24

'highly scientific experiments to do.

6:22:246:22:26

'First up, floating the badge.'

6:22:286:22:30

Waargh!

6:22:306:22:31

'Tying my shoelaces...'

6:22:316:22:33

I've got to try and put it on. I haven't got long to do it.

6:22:336:22:36

I've got the shoe on. Now I've got to do my laces!

6:22:366:22:39

How does Tim Peake do this?!

6:22:396:22:42

I can't do my laces!

6:22:436:22:45

'How about floating on a magic carpet?'

6:22:486:22:50

SHE GIGGLES

6:22:506:22:52

Whoo!

6:22:526:22:53

'Aladdin made this look really easy!

6:22:536:22:55

'And what about brushing my hair?

6:22:576:22:59

'That's my scientific experiments almost done,

6:23:006:23:03

'but there's one last thing I've always wanted to try.'

6:23:036:23:07

I'm flying! I'm a superhero!

6:23:076:23:09

SHE CHUCKLES

6:23:126:23:14

Do you know what? That was just the most incredible experience

6:23:176:23:20

I think I've ever had in my life.

6:23:206:23:22

And to think that I got to see what it's like for Tim Peake

6:23:226:23:25

to live, work and do everything that he does up in space is phenomenal.

6:23:256:23:28

I want to go again!

6:23:286:23:30

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

6:23:306:23:33

I actually want to do that every day.

6:23:336:23:35

That was the funnest day of my life. It was incredible.

6:23:356:23:38

-I wish I could've taken you, Radz.

-I want to go there!

-It was so good.

6:23:386:23:41

And just to make today even better, Tim Peake's been in touch -

6:23:416:23:44

cos, you know, he does, with Blue Peter -

6:23:446:23:45

and he sent us this little photo earlier.

6:23:456:23:47

It's the Blue Peter badge in space - how cool is that?

6:23:476:23:50

I've just spoken to Libby,

6:23:506:23:52

who says she's going to send this episode of Blue Peter up to Tim

6:23:526:23:56

-so, Tim, sir, it's been an honour.

-Enjoy.

-Legend!

-Enjoy.

6:23:566:23:59

Let's do the comments for Tim.

6:23:596:24:01

We've been asking you, what one item would you take up into space?

6:24:016:24:04

And SapphireHockeyColley - good name! - says,

6:24:046:24:07

"I would take Iggy, cos Shelley's been to space but Iggy hasn't."

6:24:076:24:10

-Nice.

-Good point.

-Share it about.

-Maybe a 3D Iggy.

6:24:106:24:13

PlumCycloneSeal Says, "I would take an alien dictionary,

6:24:136:24:16

"so I could understand and interpret their language".

6:24:166:24:19

-I love the way that you think!

-We have the best fans!

6:24:196:24:21

NavyBlueSpikyCow says, "I would take a never-ending vending machine,

6:24:216:24:25

"so I'd never run out of snacks." I like that one! Very good!

6:24:256:24:29

PurpleBrainyMosquito - you think logically!

6:24:296:24:31

"A manual on how to survive in space." Of course, a manual!

6:24:316:24:34

-Radz, have you sent in this one?

-No.

6:24:346:24:36

It says IndigoCheerfulHawk, but I think it might be you.

6:24:366:24:39

"I'd take my bed, cos it would be really weird to sleep in space."

6:24:396:24:42

-I like napping, people.

-He does!

6:24:426:24:45

"I'd take my guitar so I could hear

6:24:456:24:46

"the difference of me playing in space."

6:24:466:24:48

We'll have to ask Libby what that sounds like.

6:24:486:24:50

Not that she's done it. Now, if you've been watching carefully

6:24:506:24:53

and been on the fan club, you'll know that we've been playing

6:24:536:24:56

Spot Shelley and the winner of that was GoldJokeyPrimrose,

6:24:566:25:00

so well done. Round of applause for you.

6:25:006:25:02

APPLAUSE

6:25:026:25:03

You can see it there, just...

6:25:036:25:05

-Ooh, she was sneaky this week, wasn't she?

-Very sneaky.

6:25:056:25:08

Anyway, just time to tell you what's coming up in next week's show.

6:25:086:25:11

It is going to be a green badge spesh!

6:25:116:25:13

We're going to be in the Blue Peter garden and there you can see George

6:25:136:25:16

is going to be giving the veg patch a little bit of a makeover.

6:25:166:25:20

He's awesome!

6:25:206:25:21

We'll also be talking to BBC Two's Springwatch -

6:25:216:25:23

Martin, Michaela and Chris.

6:25:236:25:25

And we've got some exciting green badge news, so make sure you watch.

6:25:256:25:29

Now, without any more applause or excitement,

6:25:296:25:32

it's the legend, Kelvin Jones.

6:25:326:25:34

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

6:25:346:25:37

# You got those eyes, stare into my soul
