Coming up on today's live Blue Peter, | 7:47:10 | 7:47:13
we meet some podgy pets who are going from fat to fit. | 7:47:13 | 7:47:18
Find out how to turn old winter gloves into your very own personal mascot. | 7:47:18 | 7:47:24
And we reveal the winning name and design in our Blue Peter plane competition. | 7:47:24 | 7:47:29
-Hello, hi. -Hello, welcome to Blue Peter. | 7:47:47 | 7:47:50
Let's start today's show by having a look at | 7:47:50 | 7:47:52
some of the trick photographs that you have been sending in. | 7:47:52 | 7:47:56
It's because Barney taught you how to do a technique called perspective photography. | 7:47:56 | 7:48:00
Barney's a very big fan. | 7:48:00 | 7:48:02
Perspective photography is where you make big things looks small and small things look big. | 7:48:02 | 7:48:07
This dog looks bigger on telly than he appears in real life. | 7:48:07 | 7:48:10
This picture is sent in by Lauren and Niamh. | 7:48:10 | 7:48:12
This is perspective photography at its best. | 7:48:12 | 7:48:14
Lauren is holding Niamh in the palm of her hand. | 7:48:14 | 7:48:16
Very simple to do, very effective. | 7:48:16 | 7:48:18
Barney's loving it, as you can see. | 7:48:18 | 7:48:20
This is Katie. | 7:48:20 | 7:48:22
-Katie's standing on top of the world. -Brilliant. | 7:48:22 | 7:48:24
A great idea, a lovely picture. Thank you. | 7:48:24 | 7:48:26
Grace and Poppy used a Wellington boot. | 7:48:26 | 7:48:28
She sat behind it so it looks like | 7:48:28 | 7:48:31
she's popping out of the boot. | 7:48:31 | 7:48:33
If you've got any dolls or anything with hands to hang over the welly, | 7:48:33 | 7:48:36
put that at the front and pretend they're your hands. | 7:48:36 | 7:48:38
It looks like you're inside it. It's cool and effective. | 7:48:38 | 7:48:41
Ellis and Luka have done something similar. | 7:48:41 | 7:48:44
-One of them is climbing out of a mug. -Brilliant, love it. | 7:48:44 | 7:48:47
This one's genius. The robot is actually stuck to the window. | 7:48:47 | 7:48:52
Ieuan sent this in. The robot is stuck to the window. | 7:48:52 | 7:48:54
He's put him on top of the greenhouse by moving the camera up and down over the robot. | 7:48:54 | 7:48:58
Very clever. Love your stuff. Please keep it coming in. | 7:48:58 | 7:49:01
We may read some more out at the end of the show. | 7:49:01 | 7:49:04
We know that you love personalising and customising your things, | 7:49:04 | 7:49:08
your folders and school bags. | 7:49:08 | 7:49:10
We've come up with a new way for you to turn old gloves into mascots, | 7:49:10 | 7:49:14
so you can really make your bits and bobs your own. | 7:49:14 | 7:49:18
Why is it that after a long, hard winter you can only ever seem to find one glove? | 7:49:18 | 7:49:24
In fact, people have even started their own blogs, websites and | 7:49:24 | 7:49:29
Twitter feeds all dedicated to the phenomenon that is the lost glove. | 7:49:29 | 7:49:34
But we've got a way for you to transform those single gloves | 7:49:34 | 7:49:38
into a cool new toy. | 7:49:38 | 7:49:39
Have a look at these. | 7:49:39 | 7:49:41
It's an example of upcycling, which means turning an item | 7:49:41 | 7:49:44
you can't use any more into something brand new. | 7:49:44 | 7:49:48
This is going to cost you next to nothing | 7:49:48 | 7:49:50
because the whole point is you use things laying around the house. | 7:49:50 | 7:49:53
So old redundant gloves, bits of string, buttons, pipe cleaners, | 7:49:53 | 7:49:57
whatever you've got. | 7:49:57 | 7:49:58
Be as creative as you like. | 7:49:58 | 7:50:00
You can make monsters, animals, loads of different colours. | 7:50:00 | 7:50:03
The sky is the limit. What are you going to do? | 7:50:03 | 7:50:05
The glove I have is brown. | 7:50:05 | 7:50:06
I'm going to make a Barney the dog toy. | 7:50:06 | 7:50:10
I found this old mountain-biking glove. | 7:50:10 | 7:50:13
I think it would make a really cool robot. | 7:50:13 | 7:50:15
Time to get cracking. | 7:50:15 | 7:50:17
First, you need to decide which bits of the glove you're going to use | 7:50:17 | 7:50:21
for the different body parts of your toy. | 7:50:21 | 7:50:23
If I want these to be the legs and that to be the body, | 7:50:23 | 7:50:25
I mark it out on there and use that as a guide | 7:50:25 | 7:50:28
so I don't make any mistakes when I'm cutting the glove out. | 7:50:28 | 7:50:31
Mark out which bits of the glove are going to be | 7:50:31 | 7:50:34
the legs, arms and body of your toy. | 7:50:34 | 7:50:36
Mine's going to need ears, I could use the wrist bit for that | 7:50:36 | 7:50:38
or maybe I could use that bit to make the head. | 7:50:38 | 7:50:40
-You'll probably want an eye on your robot? -Oh yeah, a bionic eye. | 7:50:40 | 7:50:43
It can see for miles. All robots have them. | 7:50:43 | 7:50:46
Once you've finished your plan | 7:50:46 | 7:50:48
it's time to cut out the different sections of your glove. | 7:50:48 | 7:50:51
You might want to get an adult to help. | 7:50:51 | 7:50:53
That will be Barney's legs. | 7:50:53 | 7:50:56
I can see that coming together. Yeah. | 7:50:56 | 7:50:59
I'm taking these gloves back - rubbish! | 7:50:59 | 7:51:02
Then, use a needle and some thick thread to sew up all the individual sections, | 7:51:02 | 7:51:06
but make sure you leave a little gap in each one. | 7:51:06 | 7:51:10
OK, I've sewn up all my body parts, | 7:51:10 | 7:51:11
we now need to put something in the middle of them. | 7:51:11 | 7:51:14
You need to stuff it. | 7:51:14 | 7:51:16
You can get stuffing from any craft shop, | 7:51:16 | 7:51:18
or you could use cotton wool, tissue, | 7:51:18 | 7:51:20
anything that is going to bring your dog, dinosaur or robot to life. | 7:51:20 | 7:51:26
Fill the body parts with stuffing and then sew up the holes. | 7:51:26 | 7:51:30
You can also use pipe-cleaners. | 7:51:30 | 7:51:32
I'm going to put a pipe-cleaner in Barney's tail. | 7:51:32 | 7:51:34
I've stitched some of the glove around this pipe-cleaner. | 7:51:34 | 7:51:38
-Look, you can bend his tail. -That's brilliant! | 7:51:38 | 7:51:42
Once the individual parts are finished, | 7:51:42 | 7:51:45
it's time to sew the different sections of the body together | 7:51:45 | 7:51:48
until your toy is complete. | 7:51:48 | 7:51:51
Now it's time to add the features. | 7:51:51 | 7:51:53
I'm going to give Barney some goggly eyes. | 7:51:53 | 7:51:55
I'm going to use a button with a bit of pipe-cleaner | 7:51:55 | 7:51:58
through the middle of it, it's going to be his bionic eye. | 7:51:58 | 7:52:01
He can hypnotise you with it! | 7:52:01 | 7:52:02
You some PVA or non-toxic fabric glue to stick on the features. | 7:52:02 | 7:52:06
Or just sew them up, you can be as creative as you like | 7:52:06 | 7:52:09
and accessorise your toy so that it's personal to you. | 7:52:09 | 7:52:12
There you have it, a great bit of upcycling | 7:52:12 | 7:52:15
to turn your old single glove into a brand new toy. | 7:52:15 | 7:52:19
How cute is Barney? | 7:52:19 | 7:52:20
IMITATES BARNEY: Hello, hello! | 7:52:20 | 7:52:22
That's nothing. Watch this! | 7:52:22 | 7:52:23
ELECTRONIC ROBOT NOISES | 7:52:23 | 7:52:26
DOG BARK | 7:52:26 | 7:52:29
I was a little bit scared by that but luckily things have calmed down | 7:52:29 | 7:52:33
and he's now just sat chilled in the studio, behaving himself. | 7:52:33 | 7:52:36
If you want any more information on how to make these toys, | 7:52:36 | 7:52:39
head over to the Blue Peter website. | 7:52:39 | 7:52:41
You'll find everything you need to know there. | 7:52:41 | 7:52:43
We're going to take it a step further and turn these toys into | 7:52:43 | 7:52:47
mascots that you can hang off your rucksacks or even your pencil case. | 7:52:47 | 7:52:51
You need to attach it to your school bag. | 7:52:51 | 7:52:53
You can do this by taking an old key ring. | 7:52:53 | 7:52:55
Take off the part that you don't want, the plastic fob, | 7:52:55 | 7:52:58
so that you're left with the metal part. | 7:52:58 | 7:53:00
I'm getting the giggles because | 7:53:00 | 7:53:02
-he pulls my leg about the way I say key ring. -Key ring. | 7:53:02 | 7:53:04
Stop bullying me. Key ring. | 7:53:04 | 7:53:06
When you are left with the metal part, | 7:53:06 | 7:53:07
use that to attach to your mascot. | 7:53:07 | 7:53:09
If you haven't got an old key ring, | 7:53:10 | 7:53:13
you can buy one from a craft shop. | 7:53:13 | 7:53:15
Because these are made out of wool, | 7:53:15 | 7:53:17
they're pretty easy to attach. | 7:53:17 | 7:53:19
All you do is pierce your mascot with the key ring. | 7:53:19 | 7:53:24
And then, easier said than done, | 7:53:24 | 7:53:27
then you can attach it to your school bag. | 7:53:27 | 7:53:31
-You've got yourself a mascot. -If you don't have a key ring, | 7:53:31 | 7:53:35
you can take a bit of string about 10cm long, fold it over into a loop | 7:53:35 | 7:53:39
and stitch it to the back of your toy. | 7:53:39 | 7:53:41
I'm going to add one more loop here. | 7:53:41 | 7:53:44
Once you've done that, cut off the thread like so. | 7:53:44 | 7:53:48
Then you want to feed the end of the string | 7:53:48 | 7:53:50
through the hole on the zip part of your pencil case. | 7:53:50 | 7:53:54
Then open it into a big loop and feed the toy through. | 7:53:54 | 7:53:57
That way, when you give it a pull, | 7:53:57 | 7:53:59
it's now fastened to the pencil case. | 7:53:59 | 7:54:01
A simple mascot you've made from a toy from the website. | 7:54:01 | 7:54:05
Please get in touch and show us if you have a go. | 7:54:05 | 7:54:08
We love it when we do something and you try it at home. | 7:54:08 | 7:54:11
Send us pictures and we'll show them next week. | 7:54:11 | 7:54:14
If you send us a photograph, | 7:54:14 | 7:54:16
we might be able to send you a Blue Peter badge. | 7:54:16 | 7:54:19
We're always been told to eat healthily and exercise plenty, | 7:54:19 | 7:54:23
but the same can be said about our pets. | 7:54:23 | 7:54:25
This is true. A third of cats in the UK are overweight or obese, | 7:54:25 | 7:54:29
no, sorry, a quarter of cats and a third of dogs in the UK. | 7:54:29 | 7:54:33
That's a lot. That's 6 million fat pets. | 7:54:33 | 7:54:35
It's quite a serious matter because if your pet is fat, | 7:54:35 | 7:54:39
they can get seriously ill. | 7:54:39 | 7:54:40
We sent Live 'N' Deadly's Naomi Wilkinson | 7:54:40 | 7:54:42
to meet some porky pets who are doing something about it. | 7:54:42 | 7:54:45
I just gave Barney some chocolate! | 7:54:45 | 7:54:47
This might look like an ordinary vet's. | 7:54:47 | 7:54:49
Lots of animals sitting around, waiting their turn. | 7:54:49 | 7:54:52
But there are a couple of pets here who are more anxious than most. | 7:54:52 | 7:54:57
And that's because they're here for their weigh-in. | 7:54:57 | 7:55:00
Pet obesity is becoming a huge problem in the UK. | 7:55:03 | 7:55:06
So veterinary charity, the PDSA, have set up a Pet Fit Club programme | 7:55:06 | 7:55:11
to help overweight animals slim down. | 7:55:11 | 7:55:14
Meet Fifi the cat and Deco the dog. | 7:55:14 | 7:55:17
They're both here because their love of food | 7:55:17 | 7:55:20
has given them whacking great waistlines. | 7:55:20 | 7:55:22
Fifi was found abandoned and starving. | 7:55:22 | 7:55:24
Her new owners believe this has given her an overactive appetite. | 7:55:24 | 7:55:29
Deco is a Labrador-Retriever cross who loves treats and stealing food. | 7:55:29 | 7:55:34
And this is the man trying to help them reach their target weights, | 7:55:35 | 7:55:39
vet, Sean Wensley. | 7:55:39 | 7:55:40
And first in for his check-up is Deco. | 7:55:40 | 7:55:43
Jan, how did Deco get this big? | 7:55:45 | 7:55:47
Everybody gave him treats on top of his normal meals. | 7:55:47 | 7:55:51
The neighbours used to feed him over the fence. | 7:55:51 | 7:55:54
-So, Molly, did he pinch your food? -Yeah! | 7:55:54 | 7:55:57
-What did you used to feed him? -Crisps, biscuits. | 7:55:57 | 7:56:02
-Not any more, then? -No. | 7:56:02 | 7:56:04
'Now that Deco has been on Sean's weight-loss programme | 7:56:04 | 7:56:08
'for four months, the pounds are starting to come off.' | 7:56:08 | 7:56:11
So it can be dangerous for your pets to be overweight? | 7:56:11 | 7:56:14
Yeah. We all love our pets. They're a member of the family. | 7:56:14 | 7:56:18
And although they love treats, | 7:56:18 | 7:56:20
in the long term, it's really having some bad effects. | 7:56:20 | 7:56:23
We'll have to see if he's shed any more pounds | 7:56:23 | 7:56:26
at his weigh-in later. | 7:56:26 | 7:56:28
A dog of Deco's size should be eating 350g of dog food a day. | 7:56:29 | 7:56:34
But he was actually eating his dog food plus his favourites, | 7:56:34 | 7:56:39
like yoghurt, chicken, crisps, | 7:56:39 | 7:56:41
and on some days, 33 buns! | 7:56:41 | 7:56:44
Next up to see Sean the vet, it's fat feline, Fifi. | 7:56:44 | 7:56:48
So, Monica, how did Fifi get this size? | 7:56:48 | 7:56:51
At any opportunity she wants to eat as much as possible. | 7:56:51 | 7:56:54
So is it purely down to overeating? | 7:56:54 | 7:56:57
Most pet food that we give our cats and dogs are complete, | 7:56:57 | 7:57:01
which means they contain everything a pet needs. | 7:57:01 | 7:57:04
As soon as we start giving extra things as treats and scraps, | 7:57:04 | 7:57:09
that's when their bodies struggle to deal with the extra nutrients. | 7:57:09 | 7:57:13
Even a small treat can be harmful. | 7:57:13 | 7:57:15
Giving them a single glass of milk is the equivalent of a human eating, | 7:57:15 | 7:57:20
wait for it, a whopping one, two, three, | 7:57:20 | 7:57:23
four and a half hamburgers! | 7:57:23 | 7:57:26
But it's not only diet that's important. | 7:57:26 | 7:57:29
How long should they exercise for? | 7:57:29 | 7:57:31
A dog should be doing at least half an hour twice a day. | 7:57:31 | 7:57:34
So that's Deco and me well and truly worn out! | 7:57:39 | 7:57:43
Time to see how Fifi's getting on with her workout. | 7:57:43 | 7:57:46
# What's new, pussycat? | 7:57:46 | 7:57:48
# Whoa-whoa-whoa-whoa. # | 7:57:48 | 7:57:50
What's that?! SHE LAUGHS | 7:57:50 | 7:57:53
'Then again, maybe not!' | 7:57:53 | 7:57:55
Just not interested! | 7:57:55 | 7:57:57
At least one of them had a good workout today, | 7:57:57 | 7:58:00
but the day's not over yet. | 7:58:00 | 7:58:01
It's time for the dreaded weigh-in! | 7:58:01 | 7:58:04
Fifi should weigh 4.5kg. | 7:58:04 | 7:58:08
At her heaviest, she weighed 9.3kg. | 7:58:08 | 7:58:12
At her last weigh-in, she was 7.8kg. | 7:58:12 | 7:58:15
It's been four weeks since her last weigh-in. | 7:58:15 | 7:58:18
So is she any lighter? | 7:58:18 | 7:58:20
Come on, Fifi! | 7:58:20 | 7:58:22
Oh! | 7:58:22 | 7:58:23 | |
Exactly the same, 7.8. | 7:58:23 | 7:58:25
She's lost nothing. Are you disappointed? | 7:58:25 | 7:58:28
A little bit, but I suspect she is still stealing food | 7:58:28 | 7:58:32
-when I've been busy. -Fifi! | 7:58:32 | 7:58:35
Good luck next week. | 7:58:35 | 7:58:37
'I suppose the good news is she hasn't put any more on! | 7:58:37 | 7:58:40
'Next up, it's Deco's turn to hit the scales.' | 7:58:40 | 7:58:44
I don't know who is more nervous for this, | 7:58:44 | 7:58:47
Deco or you! THEY LAUGH | 7:58:47 | 7:58:49
Deco should weigh 35kg. | 7:58:49 | 7:58:51
At his heaviest, he weighed 53.5kg. | 7:58:51 | 7:58:54
At his last weigh-in, he was 43.1kg. | 7:58:54 | 7:58:58
But what does he weigh today? | 7:58:58 | 7:59:00
It's the moment of truth. | 7:59:00 | 7:59:03
He's trying to cheat and put half of his weight on the floor! | 7:59:03 | 7:59:07
The tension is killing me! | 7:59:07 | 7:59:09
-40.8. -40.8?! | 7:59:09 | 7:59:11
THEY CHEER Yes! | 7:59:11 | 7:59:14
So, Deco loses an impressive 2.3kg. | 7:59:15 | 7:59:18
Nice one! | 7:59:18 | 7:59:20
Well, these guys are finally on the road to a happy and healthy life. | 7:59:20 | 7:59:25
Here's to a fitter and slimmer Fifi and Deco! | 7:59:25 | 7:59:28
Thanks, Naomi! | 7:59:28 | 7:59:30
This Pet Fit Club is really starting to catch on. | 7:59:30 | 7:59:33
He is loving it! | 7:59:33 | 7:59:34
Working out all the time in his sweatbands! | 7:59:34 | 7:59:37
He's done two marathons this morning! | 7:59:37 | 7:59:39
He's worked hard! He's like his mum! | 7:59:39 | 7:59:42
Why don't you e-mail us? What is your pet's routine? | 7:59:42 | 7:59:45
What do you do? Do you exercise them? | 7:59:45 | 7:59:47
Do they sit there eating chips? Tell us! | 7:59:47 | 7:59:49
How do you stop giving them scraps? | 7:59:49 | 7:59:51
I give him scraps and it's naughty. | 7:59:51 | 7:59:53
And you give him chocolate! | 7:59:53 | 7:59:55
Still to come on today's Blue Peter... | 7:59:55 | 7:59:58
Stay tuned, we're about to reveal | 7:59:58 | 8:00:00
the winner of the Blue Peter plane competition. | 8:00:00 | 8:00:04
And Hollyoaks actor, Kieron Richardson, | 8:00:04 | 8:00:07
shares his favourite book with you. | 8:00:07 | 8:00:09
That aircraft you just saw is an amazing piece of technology. | 8:00:11 | 8:00:15
It uses the latest design and latest electronics to fly it. | 8:00:15 | 8:00:18
But it could be used for the BBC, so they could use aerial footage | 8:00:18 | 8:00:22
to cover things like the Olympics or football matches. | 8:00:22 | 8:00:26
We gave you the chance to name and design it, | 8:00:26 | 8:00:29
and you didn't let us down. | 8:00:29 | 8:00:30
We had over 1,500 entries and some fantastically creative designs | 8:00:30 | 8:00:34
and some brilliant suggestions for names. | 8:00:34 | 8:00:38
These are just a few of them. | 8:00:38 | 8:00:40
You can see all kinds of bright colours and different patterns. | 8:00:40 | 8:00:44
The dragon eye, the wings of a moth, there. | 8:00:44 | 8:00:46
I particularly like this one, | 8:00:46 | 8:00:49
which was sent in by Millie, and she's called hers 'Overview'. | 8:00:49 | 8:00:53
There was one entry that soared above the rest of the entries, | 8:00:53 | 8:00:56
And when the judges chose the winner, | 8:00:56 | 8:00:59
I went along to surprise her. | 8:00:59 | 8:01:01
You've joined me in a secret airfield location. | 8:01:04 | 8:01:08
Don't worry about the pilot costume, all will be clear. | 8:01:08 | 8:01:11
We're doing the final testing for the giant remote-control aircraft - | 8:01:11 | 8:01:15
bit of a mouthful, but not any more, thanks to a lucky Blue Peter viewer | 8:01:15 | 8:01:18
who won the competition to rename and redesign said aircraft. | 8:01:18 | 8:01:22
She's called Izzy. She's out there now | 8:01:22 | 8:01:25
and has no idea that she's won. Let's go tell her. | 8:01:25 | 8:01:28
Oh, and she has no idea I'm here, either. | 8:01:28 | 8:01:31
So, disguise ready... | 8:01:31 | 8:01:33
Chocks away. | 8:01:34 | 8:01:36
'Izzy is waiting patiently with her mum. | 8:01:36 | 8:01:39
'I wonder if she'll see through my disguise and comedy walk.' | 8:01:39 | 8:01:42
-Hello. -Nice to meet you. | 8:01:43 | 8:01:46
-You entered the competition, didn't you? -Yep. | 8:01:46 | 8:01:49
-And you also watch the show, don't you? -Yeah. | 8:01:49 | 8:01:52
Hi! | 8:01:52 | 8:01:53 | |
Follow me over here. Let me show you something. | 8:01:53 | 8:01:57
'Izzy doesn't know | 8:01:57 | 8:01:58
'she's about to see her design on the remote control plane.' | 8:01:58 | 8:02:02
-Wow. -That's my design. | 8:02:02 | 8:02:05
-Pardon? -That's my design. -That's your design? -Yeah. | 8:02:05 | 8:02:08
Izzy, you've won the competition. | 8:02:08 | 8:02:10
-Oh, wow. -Well done. | 8:02:10 | 8:02:13
'Izzy impressed the judges with her use of vibrant colours | 8:02:13 | 8:02:17
'and her choice of name for the plane, the I Flyer.' | 8:02:17 | 8:02:20
What a great name for an aircraft. How do you feel | 8:02:20 | 8:02:23
seeing your design that was on paper, on the plane? | 8:02:23 | 8:02:26
It's really cool, and I didn't think that I would ever win. | 8:02:26 | 8:02:30
-How did you come up with the design? -I just sort of liked the colour range | 8:02:30 | 8:02:34
and I thought of a really groovy pattern and put them together. | 8:02:34 | 8:02:38
It looks amazing in the sky. | 8:02:38 | 8:02:40
-Would you like to see it fly? -Yeah. -Come on, then. | 8:02:40 | 8:02:44
Here we go. | 8:02:45 | 8:02:47
The newly named I Flyer takes to the skies. | 8:02:48 | 8:02:51
-It's amazing, isn't it? -Yeah. | 8:02:51 | 8:02:53
It's not just the name and colourful design that helped Izzy win. | 8:02:53 | 8:02:57
She also added a special message to the I Flyer's undercarriage. | 8:02:57 | 8:03:02
Hello, down there. | 8:03:02 | 8:03:03
"Hello, down there!" | 8:03:03 | 8:03:04
What made you put that? | 8:03:06 | 8:03:08
The thought it would be flying over people, so they could see it. | 8:03:08 | 8:03:12
It's a friendly plane. | 8:03:12 | 8:03:13
It says hello to you when it flies over. It's a great idea. | 8:03:13 | 8:03:17
The I Flyer isn't just for show. | 8:03:17 | 8:03:19
It has an on-board camera that will be used by the BBC | 8:03:19 | 8:03:22
to capture aerial footage. | 8:03:22 | 8:03:24
But before we go, we have one more little surprise for Izzy. | 8:03:25 | 8:03:29
You can't take away the real thing. I know you'd like to. | 8:03:29 | 8:03:32
But the guys at Southampton University made you your own I Flyer | 8:03:32 | 8:03:36
to thank you for designing such a brilliant plane | 8:03:36 | 8:03:39
and giving it that iconic name. Izzy, congratulations. | 8:03:39 | 8:03:43
-Thank you. -It's a pleasure. | 8:03:43 | 8:03:46
-Aw! -We had a great day, didn't we, Izzy? | 8:03:49 | 8:03:52
You got not only your own I Flyer, but also an orange Blue Peter badge | 8:03:52 | 8:03:56
as you are our competition winner. | 8:03:56 | 8:03:58
-Congratulations. -Congratulations, Izzy. It's only 15 days | 8:03:58 | 8:04:02
until the Olympics start in London. I'm not the only one who's excited. | 8:04:02 | 8:04:06
-I get excited when you do. -All over the country, | 8:04:06 | 8:04:09
people are catching Olympic fever. We know you guys are excited. | 8:04:09 | 8:04:13
You've sent us collages, photos, drawings. | 8:04:13 | 8:04:16
-It's just around the corner. -Blue Peter's Big Olympic Tour continues. | 8:04:16 | 8:04:20
We were meant to be in the Isle of Wight but the weather's been rubbish | 8:04:20 | 8:04:24
so I'm sorry if you're expecting us there, but don't worry. | 8:04:24 | 8:04:28
We'll be in Kings Park in Bournemouth | 8:04:28 | 8:04:31
from 9am on CBBC for our live show | 8:04:31 | 8:04:33
and then at 10am we have a live event for the rest of the day. | 8:04:33 | 8:04:36
Loads of things you can do. You can be a sports reporter | 8:04:36 | 8:04:40
with green screen technology, you can ride some cool bikes | 8:04:40 | 8:04:43
and there's even a Horrible Histories tent. | 8:04:43 | 8:04:46
As part of Blue Peter's Big Olympic Tour, | 8:04:46 | 8:04:49
each week Barney and I take on four celebrities in an Olympic event. | 8:04:49 | 8:04:53
-This week it was diving. Your host is Dan Walker. -Why are you laughing? | 8:04:53 | 8:04:56
She's our joint leader - singing star Laura. | 8:04:56 | 8:05:00
He's our other leader - strictly dancer Brendan. | 8:05:00 | 8:05:04
she's in need of points - former Emmerdale actress Adele. | 8:05:04 | 8:05:08
Just too cool for school - it's MC Romeo. | 8:05:08 | 8:05:11
She is closing in on the leaders - it's our own Helen. | 8:05:11 | 8:05:14
And tennis champion from last week - it's Barney. | 8:05:14 | 8:05:18
We had a Blue Peter one-two in the tennis last week. | 8:05:18 | 8:05:21
-Everyone feeling the tension for this event? -Yes. | 8:05:21 | 8:05:24
Today we have an event that requires core strength, | 8:05:24 | 8:05:27
unbelievable agility, and crazy amounts of courage. | 8:05:27 | 8:05:32
We're diving, with someone who knows his stuff. | 8:05:32 | 8:05:35
This is a silver medal from Athens owned by a man who was on Team GB, | 8:05:35 | 8:05:39
now a BBC commentator - Leon Taylor! | 8:05:39 | 8:05:41
CHEERING | 8:05:41 | 8:05:43
-What will you teach our motley crew? -The good news is, I won't ask you | 8:05:43 | 8:05:47
to go all the way to the highest diving board, the ten-metre board. | 8:05:47 | 8:05:52
That would be crazy, | 8:05:52 | 8:05:53
but I will ask you to dive from the three-metre platform | 8:05:53 | 8:05:57
and the person who hits the water closest to vertical | 8:05:57 | 8:06:00
with the smallest splash will receive the highest mark | 8:06:00 | 8:06:03
-from the judge, who unfortunately is me. -You have to impress Leon. | 8:06:03 | 8:06:07
-You need to learn how to survive the dive! -Yay! Come on! | 8:06:07 | 8:06:12
The first task seems easy. Jumping in off the side. | 8:06:13 | 8:06:16
After a bit more practice, up to the three-metre board | 8:06:16 | 8:06:20
the competition will be held from. | 8:06:20 | 8:06:22
And they soon find out it's not as easy as it looks, | 8:06:22 | 8:06:25
-especially for our leader, Brendan. -I'm being told what I'm doing wrong | 8:06:25 | 8:06:29
and I can't correct it, I'm trying hard to correct it. | 8:06:29 | 8:06:33
It's not correct. I'm getting annoyed with myself. | 8:06:33 | 8:06:36
So, competition time. | 8:06:39 | 8:06:41
Each athlete has two dives marked out of ten by Leon, | 8:06:41 | 8:06:44
and their highest score will count. In the first round, | 8:06:44 | 8:06:48
Helen was most impressive, scoring seven out of 10. | 8:06:48 | 8:06:51
At the other end was Brendan, | 8:06:51 | 8:06:53
who only managed a four. Here are the points after round one. | 8:06:53 | 8:06:57
Into the second round of dives now. | 8:07:01 | 8:07:03
Romeo was not able to improve on his first score, getting another six. | 8:07:03 | 8:07:07
-Laura, however, did improve, getting a six as well. -Yes! | 8:07:07 | 8:07:12
Next up, Adele, capable of higher than her first score of five. | 8:07:12 | 8:07:16
Could she deliver? Here's Jonathan Pearce. | 8:07:16 | 8:07:18
Adele, can she improve? | 8:07:18 | 8:07:20
Concentration, little bit of a spring! | 8:07:20 | 8:07:23
Ooh, a twitch off-centre | 8:07:23 | 8:07:25
and that's a good seven. | 8:07:25 | 8:07:27
Helen got seven on her first dive. She knows she has to improve. | 8:07:27 | 8:07:30
Good entry. Little bit to the side, but perfectly vertical entry. | 8:07:30 | 8:07:34
It's got an incredible eight from the judge! | 8:07:34 | 8:07:38
Barney also improved, getting a six, | 8:07:38 | 8:07:40
-leaving just Brendan to dive. -Come on, Brendan! -Go, Brendan! | 8:07:40 | 8:07:44
The pressure's really on, and he doesn't look comfortable, does he? | 8:07:44 | 8:07:48
This isn't his event! Not bad, | 8:07:48 | 8:07:50
but I think he just over-rotates there as he hits the water. | 8:07:50 | 8:07:54
And as he comes up, he'll want to know what mark he's got. | 8:07:54 | 8:07:58
Ooh, it's a four again. And look at the disappointment. | 8:07:58 | 8:08:03
With three scores of six, Romeo, Laura and Barney were tied for third. | 8:08:05 | 8:08:10
That meant each would get one more dive to impress Leon. | 8:08:10 | 8:08:13
Romeo's up first. | 8:08:13 | 8:08:15
Now that's a better starting stance, | 8:08:15 | 8:08:17
and that's a very good dive! If only he'd done that earlier. | 8:08:17 | 8:08:22
Laura's deciding dive. | 8:08:22 | 8:08:24
Sets, dives, | 8:08:24 | 8:08:26
flips over on entry! Well done, though. | 8:08:26 | 8:08:30
Here's Barney. | 8:08:30 | 8:08:31
And he went over slightly as he hit the water. | 8:08:33 | 8:08:38
And now it's over to our adjudicator, Leon Taylor, | 8:08:38 | 8:08:41
who's with Dan for the final scores. | 8:08:41 | 8:08:44
-Scores time, everybody. We'll start from the bottom up. -Yes! | 8:08:44 | 8:08:49
With four from the dive, Brendan, one point for you. | 8:08:49 | 8:08:53
Thanks, that's amazing. | 8:08:53 | 8:08:55
Three of you got the same score, so it went to sudden death. | 8:08:55 | 8:08:59
Judge Leon, who got what? | 8:08:59 | 8:09:00
So Laura ended up with two, | 8:09:00 | 8:09:02
-Barney three and Romeo four. -Well done, guys. | 8:09:02 | 8:09:05
Which means our top two positions - | 8:09:05 | 8:09:07
with a spectacular score of seven, Adele gets five points! | 8:09:07 | 8:09:11
LAUGHING, APPLAUSE | 8:09:11 | 8:09:13
And eight out of ten on her second dive | 8:09:13 | 8:09:15
-gets Lady Skelton a full bag of six points! -Yeah! | 8:09:15 | 8:09:19
You were happy with that result, weren't you? | 8:09:22 | 8:09:25
I'm embarrassed by how competitive I am. | 8:09:25 | 8:09:28
Your celebratory dance is something to behold. | 8:09:28 | 8:09:31
-Well done. -Sport brings out the worst in me. | 8:09:31 | 8:09:33
So you're gold on the leaderboard. | 8:09:33 | 8:09:36
But there are two weeks to go, so it could all change. | 8:09:36 | 8:09:39
-If you win, you get six points now. -I was there. I know what happened. | 8:09:39 | 8:09:43
-Stop it. -Over the summer, | 8:09:43 | 8:09:45
you'll probably want to relax and read your favourite book. | 8:09:45 | 8:09:48
I've read this one a million times, I never get bored of it. Ha-ha! | 8:09:48 | 8:09:52
Right. We are hoping as many of you as possible | 8:09:52 | 8:09:55
will get involved in a project called Story Lab. | 8:09:55 | 8:09:58
The challenge is to read six books over the summer. | 8:09:58 | 8:10:01
We have something to motivate you. Each two books you read, | 8:10:01 | 8:10:05
you get a sticker to complete your lab tab. | 8:10:05 | 8:10:07
To inspire you, some famous faces | 8:10:07 | 8:10:09
will tell you about their favourite stories. | 8:10:09 | 8:10:12
Here's Hollyoaks actor Kieron Richardson with Wind... | 8:10:12 | 8:10:15
in the Willows. | 8:10:15 | 8:10:16
One of my favourite books is The Wind In The Willows. | 8:10:23 | 8:10:27
This funny, exciting story begins with a character called Mole. | 8:10:29 | 8:10:33
He decides to give up on a day of boring spring cleaning and... | 8:10:33 | 8:10:37
He comes here, to the riverbank. | 8:10:38 | 8:10:40
Now Mole, who is usually a bit shy and quiet, | 8:10:40 | 8:10:44
soon becomes best friends with Ratty | 8:10:44 | 8:10:47
and they have a whole lot of adventures on the river. | 8:10:47 | 8:10:50
And Ratty's neighbour Toad, he loves boats as well. | 8:10:50 | 8:10:54
Well, until he decides he likes cars even more. | 8:10:54 | 8:10:58
Toad is a great friend, though, | 8:10:58 | 8:11:00
although he's an even greater poser. | 8:11:00 | 8:11:02
Not everyone is a friend of Ratty and Mole in the story. | 8:11:12 | 8:11:15
Weasels, stoats and foxes, | 8:11:15 | 8:11:18
well, they live in the Wild Woods | 8:11:18 | 8:11:20
and Ratty has warned Mole to stay well away. | 8:11:20 | 8:11:23
'But Mole ignores Ratty | 8:11:25 | 8:11:28
'and one evening, walking through the woods, trying to find Mr Badger, | 8:11:28 | 8:11:32
'Mole suddenly gets a horrible feeling. | 8:11:32 | 8:11:35
'He's not alone.' | 8:11:35 | 8:11:37
"Over his shoulder and indistinctly, he first thought he saw a face, | 8:11:43 | 8:11:48
"a little evil wedge-shaped face looking out from a hole. | 8:11:48 | 8:11:52
"When he turned to confront it, the thing had vanished. | 8:11:52 | 8:11:55
"He quickened his pace, | 8:11:55 | 8:11:57
"telling himself not to imagine things or there'd be no end to it. | 8:11:57 | 8:12:01
"He passed another hole, then another, and then yes! | 8:12:01 | 8:12:05
"No. | 8:12:05 | 8:12:06 | |
"Yes! Certainly, a little narrow face with hard eyes | 8:12:06 | 8:12:10
"had flashed up for an instant from a hole | 8:12:10 | 8:12:13
"and it was gone. | 8:12:13 | 8:12:15
"He hesitated, raised himself up for an effort and strode on. | 8:12:15 | 8:12:20
"Then suddenly, and as if it had been so all the time, every hole, | 8:12:20 | 8:12:24
"and there were hundreds of them, seemed to possess a face, | 8:12:24 | 8:12:28
"coming and going rapidly, all fixing on him glances of malice and hatred, | 8:12:28 | 8:12:33
"all hard-eyed, evil and sharp." | 8:12:33 | 8:12:37
If you read the book, you'll see things get a lot worse for Mole. | 8:12:44 | 8:12:48
You'll also see... | 8:12:48 | 8:12:51
Ah. You'll see how he does find Badger after all. | 8:12:51 | 8:12:55
Now, Badger's old and wise... | 8:12:55 | 8:12:59
and he's also not a fan of unexpected guests | 8:12:59 | 8:13:01
so you'll have to meet him in the book. | 8:13:01 | 8:13:05
So even if I'm stuck inside my house or I've got loads of work to do, | 8:13:08 | 8:13:12
when all I want to do is go to the riverbank or the Wild Wood, | 8:13:12 | 8:13:16
I just open my book. | 8:13:16 | 8:13:18
I really hope Toad knows where he's going. | 8:13:23 | 8:13:26
He's right. With a good book, | 8:13:26 | 8:13:27
you can transport yourself to a different place or time. | 8:13:27 | 8:13:31
You may as well transport yourself to the Blue Peter website, | 8:13:31 | 8:13:34

"I exercise my dog by giving him a little wrestle." | 8:13:51 | 8:13:55
OK. Does he have a little bikini on? Do wrestlers wear bikinis? | 8:13:55 | 8:13:59
Emily says, "Our hamster runs around in a ball | 8:13:59 | 8:14:01
-"and keeps crashing into things." -Anya says, "I have a rabbit. | 8:14:01 | 8:14:05
"I hug him everyday and let him into the garden to run around. | 8:14:05 | 8:14:09
"He's the right size." Megan says her cat once jumped on the table | 8:14:09 | 8:14:13
-and ate a whole chicken. He did that. -What? -Bones and all. | 8:14:13 | 8:14:16
Tilly says, "I love glove puppets. Barney the dog is cool." True! | 8:14:16 | 8:14:20
That's it for today. There's just time to tell you | 8:14:20 | 8:14:23
what's on next week's Blue Peter. | 8:14:23 | 8:14:25
# Unstoppable, I'm the champion, champion... # | 8:14:25 | 8:14:30
With a catchy song we're hearing everywhere, | 8:14:30 | 8:14:33
Clement Marfo and the Frontline will be in our studio. | 8:14:33 | 8:14:36
And I can hardly contain my excitement. | 8:14:36 | 8:14:39
With the release of The Dark Knight Rises, | 8:14:39 | 8:14:41
I get to show you Batman's brand-new wheels - all six of them. | 8:14:41 | 8:14:46
And we are going to be speaking to the brand-new Bat-inventor, | 8:14:46 | 8:14:50
Batmobile inventor, if you want to e-mail him. | 8:14:50 | 8:14:55
