Good morning, I'm Leah and this is your live Newsround | :00:12. | :00:13.
Lots of your celebrating world book Day today. It has been running for | :00:14. | :00:28.
19 years. Events are taking place in over 100 countries. Ricky has been | :00:29. | :00:30.
along to one book event here. You don't need Justin Bieber | :00:31. | :00:38.
or Little Mix to pull in the crowds. These authors here today have got | :00:39. | :00:41.
hundreds of kids really When my mum gets me a book, I go, | :00:42. | :00:44.
"Wow, Mum, thanks a lot!" And I've got, like, maybe 130 books | :00:45. | :00:51.
at home on a shelf. Why is World Book Day | :00:52. | :00:57.
so important, do you think? Because it celebrates books | :00:58. | :01:01.
and I don't think books get Most people go on their | :01:02. | :01:03.
phones and things. As Harry Potter ? | :01:04. | :01:09.
Yeah. I used to dress up as Hermione | :01:10. | :01:12.
from Harry Potter and sometimes Chris Riddell is a writer | :01:13. | :01:15.
and illustrator, the current Children's Laureate and promotes | :01:16. | :01:26.
reading among kids. For any author or illustrator, | :01:27. | :01:31.
there's a very special day and it's today, when you actually walk | :01:32. | :01:34.
into a school and look at this great crowd of kids who love books so much | :01:35. | :01:37.
that they've dressed And then the best bit, | :01:38. | :01:40.
I have lots of friends of mine who do what I do and love this, | :01:41. | :01:47.
when you spot one of your own characters in the sea of faces. | :01:48. | :01:51.
And that's really special. We'd love to know who YOU'RE | :01:52. | :01:58.
dressing up as for World Book Day. Lots of you have | :01:59. | :02:05.
already been in touch. Divina in Sheffield is dressing up | :02:06. | :02:07.
as Lisa from The Boy in the Dress. Innes in Sunderland | :02:08. | :02:10.
is doing a Roald Dahl 'Revolting Rhymes' | :02:11. | :02:12.
performance at school today. And Mia in London has been in touch | :02:13. | :02:14.
to say she's already met one author yesterday and she'll be seeing | :02:15. | :02:17.
another today. She says she loves the Harry Potter | :02:18. | :02:19.
books and that JK Rowling So, we're going book-tastic | :02:20. | :02:22.
on Newsround today because aside from it being world book day today | :02:23. | :02:30.
we can also reveal the winners After much debate the judges | :02:31. | :02:33.
whittled down their favourite children's book reads to six | :02:34. | :02:37.
brilliant reads, across two Yes. How difficult was it to whittle | :02:38. | :02:55.
it down? It was so tricky. Two categories, best storybook and the | :02:56. | :03:00.
best book with facts. There are three judges. We had 20 books in | :03:01. | :03:04.
each category, so a lot of books to read. Different themes and stories, | :03:05. | :03:12.
so we had to decide the best three in each category. Each one of us has | :03:13. | :03:17.
their own dislikes and likes as well. We spent the whole day at | :03:18. | :03:21.
Liverpool Central Library and talked it through. We were really happy | :03:22. | :03:25.
with the final three in each category. We did the short list. | :03:26. | :03:31.
Then those three books went to different schools across the country | :03:32. | :03:35.
and it is really the children who decided who has won the Blue Peter | :03:36. | :03:40.
Book Awards. They have said this is what we like. This is what we want | :03:41. | :03:46.
to win. So, I can't wait any longer. Please reveal the winners! The | :03:47. | :03:51.
winners of the Blue Peter Book Awards are, for best storybook, Ross | :03:52. | :03:56.
McKenzie with the nowhere in Tory and for best book of facts, the epic | :03:57. | :04:08.
book of Epicurus, by AB Adam Frost. This book captured my imagination. I | :04:09. | :04:15.
knew straightaway it should be a winner. The characters are strong, | :04:16. | :04:20.
the theme is brilliant. I was just transported to a fantastic world. | :04:21. | :04:25.
For the best book with facts, it has a fact about everything! When you go | :04:26. | :04:29.
to a party or you are with friends, you just want the best fact. You | :04:30. | :04:34.
will get it from this book. What does it mean to win this award? For | :04:35. | :04:42.
any author, you know, I was a CBBC presenter, and it was a massive deal | :04:43. | :04:46.
back then. Peter is a fantastic brand and anyone who wins this knows | :04:47. | :04:50.
they have made it. They get a badge as well. Packs for joining us. | :04:51. | :04:52.
That's all from me, Newsround's back right here in about half an hour. | :04:53. | :04:57. |
