Hi, I'm Ricky, bringing you all the news on this

:00:00.:00:00.

Coming up in the next few minutes on Newsround...

:00:00.:00:11.

We meet Toby, who's sent almost 800 letters to people

:00:12.:00:13.

And the baby bear rescued from the roadside in Poland.

:00:14.:00:29.

First, more than a million migrants and refugees have come to Europe

:00:30.:00:32.

Now a new plan to deal with the huge numbers of people asking for help

:00:33.:00:38.

has begun, though it's already causing problems.

:00:39.:00:40.

Migrants and refugees arriving in Europe, just some of the many

:00:41.:00:47.

Already this year over 150,000 people, lots of them children,

:00:48.:00:55.

Many make the dangerous journey to escape war and poverty

:00:56.:01:01.

in countries like Syria, Iraq and parts of Africa.

:01:02.:01:06.

One of the first places they usually get to is Lesbos,

:01:07.:01:09.

European governments have found it difficult to cope with the huge

:01:10.:01:15.

numbers of those needing help and they've spent a long time

:01:16.:01:18.

Well, the BBC's Sarah Rainsford is in Greece, where many migrants

:01:19.:01:29.

arrived trying to get into Europe, and now some are leaving by boat

:01:30.:01:33.

as part of a new plan to deal with the migrant crisis -

:01:34.:01:36.

I am in the harbour here on Lesbos and that white passenger ferry over

:01:37.:01:41.

there, the small one that's marked Turyol,

:01:42.:01:42.

is one of the ones that was used to carry dozens of people today

:01:43.:01:46.

It is just a couple of hours' boat ride across the sea.

:01:47.:01:50.

The people taken back had all crossed to Greece in recent

:01:51.:01:52.

weeks, but so many migrants have been heading to Europe that the EU

:01:53.:01:55.

decided it needs new rules to cope with that.

:01:56.:01:58.

It thinks that many of these people could be quite safe

:01:59.:02:00.

staying in Turkey and so according to the new rules anybody who can't

:02:01.:02:03.

prove that they need to stay here in Europe faces being deported.

:02:04.:02:06.

protesting against that and the most upset about it of all are of course

:02:07.:02:13.

They're now living in a detention camp here on Lesbos and the ones

:02:14.:02:18.

I've been talking to say they are very worried

:02:19.:02:20.

But if their request to stay here in Europe on the island

:02:21.:02:27.

is rejected then they, too, could soon

:02:28.:02:29.

be on ferries like that one there and heading back to Turkey

:02:30.:02:31.

and we could see even more serious protests.

:02:32.:02:35.

And if you want to know more about the migrant and refugee crisis

:02:36.:02:39.

then we have loads more information over on the Newsround website.

:02:40.:02:46.

Next, it's a good day for philatelists -

:02:47.:02:48.

that's stamp collectors to you and me.

:02:49.:02:50.

A new set of stamps will be available today to celebrate

:02:51.:02:53.

the genius of the writer William Shakespeare.

:02:54.:02:54.

The ten stamps show quotes from Shakespeare's writing and have

:02:55.:02:57.

been released to commemorate 400 years since the writer died.

:02:58.:03:02.

Next, an American army dog called Lucca is being awarded

:03:03.:03:04.

The brave dog is getting the highest award possible

:03:05.:03:08.

from the PDSA animal charity, to recognise the work she carried

:03:09.:03:11.

Lucca led over 400 patrols while in the army and on her final

:03:12.:03:17.

mission she lost her leg after stepping on an

:03:18.:03:20.

She recovered well, though, and is being flown over to the UK

:03:21.:03:24.

Next to the eight-year-old boy who's spent the last three years writing

:03:25.:03:29.

Toby started sending letters to countries thousands of miles away

:03:30.:03:34.

and never expecting to get any replies.

:03:35.:03:42.

Almost 800 letters later, this is his story.

:03:43.:03:44.

Hi, my name's Toby and I'm eight years old.

:03:45.:03:47.

I like space, fossils and film-making.

:03:48.:03:53.

Three years ago I asked my mum to help me with a special project.

:03:54.:03:56.

I read a book called The Letters From New Zealand

:03:57.:03:59.

and I wanted to speak to people around the world to find out

:04:00.:04:02.

I started writing letters to places like the South Pole and got

:04:03.:04:08.

Just before my sixth birthday I got a response back from the South Pole

:04:09.:04:15.

and I even got a "happy birthday, Toby" banner.

:04:16.:04:21.

I have written nearly 800 letters and it

:04:22.:04:23.

has been really good handwriting practice.

:04:24.:04:26.

And the most exciting thing happened.

:04:27.:04:29.

All the letters have been turned into this book!

:04:30.:04:32.

People send me fridge magnets, pop-up books

:04:33.:04:35.

But they also include what their lives are like

:04:36.:04:42.

and what school is like, so I do love all my responses.

:04:43.:04:50.

This just shows that you can make friends all over the world.

:04:51.:05:07.

Thank you, Toby. All of those blue Peter badges, amazing!

:05:08.:05:13.

A fossil has been found in Herefordshire containing

:05:14.:05:15.

a 430-million-year-old sea creature that apparently dragged its babies

:05:16.:05:18.

Nicknamed Kite Runner, this 1cm creature is not directly

:05:19.:05:21.

related to any other type of animal alive today.

:05:22.:05:24.

Next, two of the Queen's homes are going to be getting a makeover.

:05:25.:05:27.

?37 million will be spent on doing up Windsor Castle

:05:28.:05:29.

and the Palace of Holyrood house in Edinburgh.

:05:30.:05:32.

The money has come from people paying to visit royal residences

:05:33.:05:37.

Finally, it's time for something really cute.

:05:38.:05:42.

This baby bear was rescued after being found wandering

:05:43.:05:44.

on his own near a roadside in Poland.

:05:45.:05:47.

Rangers took the two-month-old cub to a vet's, where

:05:48.:05:49.

It's hoped that he'll be released back into the wild

:05:50.:05:53.

Newsround's back this afternoon at 4.20.
