This is Newsround on Saturday!

0:00:050:00:09

I'm Ricky, live on CBBC.

0:00:090:00:10

Coming up...

0:00:100:00:10

Stunning close ups of pluto.

0:00:100:00:17

And Dippy, the 20 year-old penguin, is on the move. -- Pluto.

0:00:170:00:22

First to India, where power is returning to most parts

0:00:250:00:28

of the southern city of Chennai, following devastating flooding.

0:00:280:00:29

A massive operation is underway to try to get food and medicines to

0:00:330:00:36

the thousands of people affected.

0:00:360:00:39

The rains were the heaviest for 100 years.

0:00:390:00:41

Here's the BBC's reporter in Chennai, Sanjoy Majumder.

0:00:410:00:48

This is one of the worst affected areas.

0:00:480:00:49

And, with the rain still coming down, the

0:00:490:00:51

water levels are still quite high.

0:00:510:00:53

A community of 6,000 people live here, mostly shoemakers by trade

0:00:530:00:56

and only one third of them have been moved to a camp nearby.

0:00:560:00:59

The rest are still here.

0:00:590:01:01

They say no government aid has reached him, no army rescue

0:01:010:01:04

teams have visited them.

0:01:040:01:12

--

0:01:120:01:12

-- no

0:01:120:01:12

-- no government

0:01:120:01:12

-- no government aid

0:01:120:01:12

-- no government aid has

0:01:120:01:13

-- no government aid has reached

0:01:130:01:13

-- no government aid has reached them.

0:01:130:01:14

They have been left to their own devices

0:01:140:01:16

and the good will of volunteers.

0:01:160:01:17

Back here in the UK, Storm Desmond is causing flooding in parts of

0:01:170:01:20

Cumbria and Scotland.

0:01:200:01:21

Roads have been closed and people have been told check

0:01:210:01:23

its safe before travelling.

0:01:230:01:24

The rain is expected to continue for the rest of the day across

0:01:240:01:27

North-West England and Scotland.

0:01:270:01:28

NASA's New Horizons space probe has sent back the most detailed images

0:01:280:01:31

of Pluto that anyone has ever seen.

0:01:310:01:33

The super-sharp pictures gives scientists clear views of

0:01:330:01:35

mountains, craters and smooth ice fields on the planet.

0:01:350:01:40

NASA will try to launch its orbital rocket again today.

0:01:400:01:42

High winds meant they had to cancel the planned launch yesterday.

0:01:420:01:47

It's carrying supplies for astronauts living on board

0:01:470:01:49

the international space station.

0:01:490:01:53

The UK is home to more than 200 different species of bird,

0:01:530:01:57

but it's getting harder for many of them to survive here.

0:01:570:02:00

Jenny's been finding out which of these birds are

0:02:000:02:02

on the endangered list.

0:02:020:02:05

Unfortunately, for some of our favourite birds, this latest report

0:02:050:02:09

by bird charities and conservation groups is not great news.

0:02:090:02:14

The puffin that nests in the coastlines and islands

0:02:140:02:16

in areas all over the UK is at risk, because of climate change.

0:02:160:02:20

As the sea warms up, the fish they feed on are travelling

0:02:200:02:23

further north to cold waters,

0:02:230:02:29

putting them out of the puffins' reach, which means they don't have

0:02:290:02:32

enough food to feed their chicks,

0:02:320:02:33

Other birds which aren't doing well are curlews.

0:02:330:02:35

This is because the habitats where they nest

0:02:350:02:37

and the wetlands where they feed are not being looked after properly.

0:02:370:02:40

Some of the birds we see in our back gardens are at risk.

0:02:400:02:44

Many people aren't growing the sort of flowers

0:02:440:02:47

and plants that insects live on.

0:02:470:02:51

This then means that there aren't enough bugs

0:02:510:02:53

for many garden birds to feed on.

0:02:530:02:54

It's not all doom and gloom, though.

0:02:540:02:56

Some birds are doing really well, thanks to efforts by charities

0:02:560:02:59

like the RSPB.

0:02:590:03:02

You might see the red kite soaring over fields

0:03:020:03:04

and gardens looking for food.

0:03:040:03:08

It's doing brilliantly, thanks to special efforts over

0:03:080:03:10

the years to reintroduce them into different parts of the UK.

0:03:100:03:14

So, fingers crossed, there's still hope for the rest

0:03:140:03:17

of our beautiful British birds.

0:03:170:03:23

For you chocolate lovers, what could be better than this?

0:03:230:03:25

This London company scans your face in full

0:03:250:03:28

and then prints it using a 3D printer.

0:03:280:03:31

They make a mould, pour the chocolate in and leave it

0:03:310:03:36

to set, then there you have it.

0:03:360:03:38

Why not lick your own face?

0:03:380:03:41

A penguin with special needs has moved to a new home in Norfolk

0:03:410:03:44

after his sanctuary shut.

0:03:440:03:47

Dippy lives with a condition called arthritis

0:03:470:03:50

that causes pain in his joints.

0:03:500:03:52

He's moved with 10 other humbolt penguins to the east of England.

0:03:520:03:57

His new home already has a specially adapted pool to help him out.

0:03:570:04:02

We heard Dippy had some problems with arthritis in his hips

0:04:020:04:07

and we used to have an arthritic penguin, Lola, who used

0:04:070:04:10

to live here many years ago.

0:04:100:04:11

So we have some experience with that.

0:04:110:04:13

And, luckily, we've got this ramp already built into our pool, which

0:04:130:04:16

helps birds like Dippy and Lola to walk into the pool, rather than

0:04:160:04:19

having to jump up onto the rocks, like all our other penguins do.

0:04:190:04:22

It's the 5th December today, and day five of our advent calendar.

0:04:220:04:25

This week it's all about your Christmas traditions.

0:04:250:04:29

Hello, I'm Katie from the CBBC office

0:04:310:04:34

and I'm the biggest Christmas fan in the world.

0:04:340:04:36

I've got loads of Christmas traditions, like going ice-skating,

0:04:360:04:38

getting new pyjamas to wear Christmas Eve, waking everybody up

0:04:380:04:40

very early in the morning on Christmas Day to open presents.

0:04:400:04:44

And, of course, wearing lots of ridiculous headbands

0:04:440:04:53

and hats and things like that. Like this one.

0:04:530:04:54

It's not just us at Newsround catching the Christmas bug.

0:05:010:05:04

Oh, no.

0:05:040:05:04

Check out this real-life advent calendar.

0:05:040:05:06

Doors are being swung open all over Winchester in South West England,

0:05:060:05:09

but, instead of chocolate inside, visitors are able to watch

0:05:090:05:11

performances.

0:05:110:05:11

24 doors will open over 24 days, hosting 24 different events.

0:05:110:05:14

So what do some of the visitors make of it?

0:05:140:05:16

What did you think of that?

0:05:160:05:18

Really enjoyed it. I really enjoyed the singing.

0:05:180:05:20

I think it was really good.

0:05:200:05:21

I bet you've got an advent calendar at home.

0:05:210:05:23

Yeah. How does it compare to the one at home?

0:05:230:05:26

Well, it's different, because you actually go into the door

0:05:260:05:28

and you don't get any chocolate.

0:05:280:05:30

This may be one of the most unusual friendships

0:05:300:05:32

we've ever seen on Newsround.

0:05:320:05:35

Timur the goat was released into a tiger's enclosure

0:05:350:05:37

at a Russian safari park.

0:05:370:05:40

Instead of being eaten for dinner,

0:05:400:05:41

Timur made friends with the hungry tiger.

0:05:410:05:43

And now the pair are living side by side, with Timur even sleeping

0:05:430:05:46

in the big cat's bed, leaving him out in the cold.

0:05:460:05:51

That's all from the Newsround team for today.

0:05:510:05:53

We'll be back tomorrow morning at 9:55am,

0:05:530:05:55

with all of your top stories.

0:05:550:05:57

See you then.
