Now, at Newsround HQ, we've heard from some | 0:03:01 | 0:03:04
of you who are worried about people dressing as clowns to deliberately | 0:03:04 | 0:03:07
try and frighten others. | 0:03:07 | 0:03:09
You've told us there are lots of rumours about clowns | 0:03:09 | 0:03:11
going around at the moment, so we decided to look at the facts. | 0:03:11 | 0:03:14
Ricky's been investigating. | 0:03:14 | 0:03:16
It started in the US and Canada - people dressing up as clowns | 0:03:16 | 0:03:20
and scaring others. | 0:03:20 | 0:03:26
Now there have been reports from police of it | 0:03:26 | 0:03:28
happening here in the UK. | 0:03:28 | 0:03:30
Harmless fun? | 0:03:30 | 0:03:31
Not everyone thinks so. | 0:03:31 | 0:03:33
Over the past few weeks, it has also spread online, | 0:03:33 | 0:03:35
with lots of people posting videos on social media. | 0:03:35 | 0:03:40
But now some parents say it's getting out of hand | 0:03:40 | 0:03:43
and there are loads of rumours flying around, like clowns will come | 0:03:43 | 0:03:46
to your school if you don't share pictures of them. | 0:03:46 | 0:03:48
None of those are true. | 0:03:48 | 0:03:50
In the UK, a number of police forces say they're getting calls | 0:03:50 | 0:03:54
from people who have been frightened when they've seen | 0:03:54 | 0:03:55
people dressed as clowns. | 0:03:55 | 0:03:58
The police say there's nothing funny about it. | 0:03:58 | 0:04:00
The police have put extra patrols on. | 0:04:00 | 0:04:04
If anybody sees anything, or anybody's frightened, ring | 0:04:04 | 0:04:06
straightaway, the police will come. | 0:04:06 | 0:04:09
They don't mind if it was a joke and not a serious clown. | 0:04:09 | 0:04:13
We've heard that some of you are a bit worried about this | 0:04:13 | 0:04:16
so we've been taking a closer look at this story. | 0:04:16 | 0:04:18
It's important to say that these sightings are incredibly rare | 0:04:18 | 0:04:21
and no one has been hurt. | 0:04:21 | 0:04:24
And even if it is just a few people having a bit of fun, | 0:04:24 | 0:04:27
the police say they are taking incidents very seriously. | 0:04:27 | 0:04:31
They say anyone who dresses up as a clown to scare someone | 0:04:31 | 0:04:34
on purpose could get into a lot of trouble. | 0:04:34 | 0:04:39
If you are worried at all about people dressed as clowns | 0:04:39 | 0:04:42
then make sure you speak to an adult about it. | 0:04:42 | 0:04:46
And if you are upset by the news, there's loads of advice over | 0:04:46 | 0:04:49
at Newsround online. | 0:04:49 | 0:04:50
That's all from me - Newsround's back right | 0:04:50 | 0:04:53
