Morning. Leah here with Friday morning's top stories. Coming up: Go | :00:00. | :00:12.
Team Yarnold. GB skeleton racer goes for Gold. | :00:13. | :00:17.
And why this baby alligator took a trip to France. | :00:18. | :00:25.
This is Newsround. First up, most of us had a calmer | :00:26. | :00:28.
night but another band of stormy weather is already on its way, with | :00:29. | :00:32.
rain and high winds hitting the South West of England this morning. | :00:33. | :00:36.
17 severe flood warnings are in place across the UK and engineers | :00:37. | :00:39.
are still working to restore power to some of the thousands of homes | :00:40. | :00:43.
that were cut off on Wednesday. Ayshah been in Chertsey in Surrey | :00:44. | :00:51.
this morning. I in Chertsey near the River Thames. The River Thames is | :00:52. | :00:57.
still gushing with loads of water. Places are still flooding as the | :00:58. | :01:02.
water is not going anywhere. I am here by a flood defence which was | :01:03. | :01:06.
built yesterday by the Environment Agency. This is Alison from that | :01:07. | :01:10.
organisation. Can you tell me what this is here for? Where may have | :01:11. | :01:15.
flooding to the extent we have now, we use a lot of temporary defences | :01:16. | :01:21.
which can be sandbags, barriers or a watered'down. This is laid along the | :01:22. | :01:26.
road because it needs a flat surface to provide temporary protection to | :01:27. | :01:30.
the properties this side of it. The properties on the other side we are | :01:31. | :01:35.
supplying sandbags and temporary defences and supporting those people | :01:36. | :01:37.
to protect all the properties we can. Whatever we put here will not | :01:38. | :01:41.
make anything worse but we are trying to do what we can for each | :01:42. | :01:45.
property. Thank you. More rain is expected today and people will have | :01:46. | :01:50.
a nervous wait. Thanks, Aysha. The bad weather is affecting you guys | :01:51. | :01:53.
all over the UK and you've been getting in touch with your stories. | :01:54. | :01:57.
Ellie, Jake, Chloe and Max sent us this report. | :01:58. | :02:06.
Hello, I am Chloe. I am Jake. I am Chloe. I am Max. This is our story | :02:07. | :02:11.
of the floods. This is my usual route to school. It no longer | :02:12. | :02:22.
exists. We used to have this car park by my house. Now it is a | :02:23. | :02:30.
swimming pool. We used to spend all of our free time at the park but as | :02:31. | :02:34.
you can see there is no chance of that soon. Many people have been | :02:35. | :02:41.
evacuated from their homes due to the high volume of water caused by | :02:42. | :02:48.
the flooding, including us. Jack in Bath has contacted us because his | :02:49. | :02:52.
back garden is flooded. And Matthew in Rhyl got soaked and his next door | :02:53. | :02:56.
neighbour's ariel fell down! Thanks for the video report guys and | :02:57. | :03:00.
all your comments. If you've been affected by the floods, we want to | :03:01. | :03:04.
hear from you. Grab your mobile and if it's safe to do so, send us a | :03:05. | :03:08.
short clip or take some snaps of what's happening in your area. You | :03:09. | :03:12.
can also leave us your flood and bad weather stories over on the | :03:13. | :03:21.
Newsround website. Thousands of people have had to | :03:22. | :03:25.
leave their homes in Indonesia. The volcano chucked ash and sand more | :03:26. | :03:29.
than 100 miles away. Some towns have been turned completely grey after | :03:30. | :03:31.
getting covered in several centimetres of ash. Three major | :03:32. | :03:34.
airports have also been closed because of low visibility and fears | :03:35. | :03:37.
the ash could damage plane engines. Exciting news for Harry Potter fans. | :03:38. | :03:41.
JK Rowling says she's finished the draft script for her spin off movie! | :03:42. | :03:44.
The author revealed in a magazine interview that she wrote Fantastic | :03:45. | :03:47.
Beasts And Where to Find Them in just 12 days. The story's based on | :03:48. | :03:51.
the text book Harry Potter uses in Hogwarts. There's no news yet on | :03:52. | :03:55.
when the movie will start being made. | :03:56. | :03:57.
Over at Sochi and Lizzy Yarnold could become Britian's first Gold | :03:58. | :04:00.
medallist at the Winter Olympics today. She only took up the sport in | :04:01. | :04:04.
2010 but dominated the first two runs of the skeleton competition and | :04:05. | :04:07.
leads at the half way point by almost half a second. Her | :04:08. | :04:11.
competition starts at 4pm. Before that at 12.30pm, qualifying starts | :04:12. | :04:14.
for the Men's Skeleton, while at 10am, the British women's curling | :04:15. | :04:23.
team face Japan. Tennis news and Britain's Andy | :04:24. | :04:26.
Murray is through to the quarter finals of the ABN World Tennis | :04:27. | :04:29.
Tournament in Rotterdam after beating the Dominic Team 6-4, 3-6, | :04:30. | :04:32.
6-3. The Wimbledon champion is looking to repeat his 2009 success | :04:33. | :04:35.
in the tournament when he beat Rafael Nadal in the final. And two | :04:36. | :04:41.
baby albino alligators have been flown thousands of miles from | :04:42. | :04:44.
Florida to their new home at a Paris Aquarium. | :04:45. | :04:46.
Albino alligators are so rare there are only around 30 of them left in | :04:47. | :04:50.
the world. They don't usually survive in the wild because their | :04:51. | :04:53.
light skin would mark them out to predators in their dark habitat. | :04:54. | :04:59.
That is all from me. Jenny is here at 4pm. Have a great day. | :05:00. | :05:01. |
